Is it my imagination, or has horse bonding slowed down significantly?

I have been a 1 horse cowgirl since about January, when I bought my Nokota, and had only owned 3 horses in game - the one you get at the start and a black thoroughbred, each of which I sold soon after upgrading.  Maybe my memory is playing me false, but it feels like all 3 of those bonded up to level 4 very quickly, without even trying.

Last week, as a result of several occasions when my Nokota was shot out from under me, I decided to buy a backup horse, to avoid the curse of the scrawny nag.

However, my new pony (the red Arabian) seems to be bonding ridiculously slowly.  I must have at least 10 hours in the saddle (with a reasonable amount of brushing and feeding), and I'm barely half way to bonding level 3.  Anyone else noticed this?

To be fair, I did think that they bonded too quickly before, but curious as to other peoples' experience of this.

I rode the red chestnut since day 1 (my day 1 anyway). It took ages to bond. But for the longest time I was resetting to level one bonding constantly, so I can’t say if it takes longer or not...

What would be a good idea is to bond with them but instead of saddling them use them as pack animals.

That way you could carry more than one muskie, buffalo, alligator and the other big items.

Instead of locking them out from being saddled to ride, why not also have a cargo saddle? Make it $1200 RDO and you can carry 2 medium animals and 4 or 5 small animals and more pelts. Make it available for Mules, Donkeys, Draft and Work horses

Good idea as well. Always bugged me that you can carry 10 salmon 10 bass 10 steelhead in your satchel  but only one muskie on the back of your horse (just how big do they think a muskie is?)  😖

What about storing crafting materials in your camp, like herbs, feathers, animal fat, moonshine? You can still only carry 10 pieces on you but what if you could go herb picking and deposit them in your camp, or hunting, looting, etc... It would give another reason to use the camp.

Not a bad idea. Also something likely to take shape down the road I think.

I have a feeling once properties are introduced (assuming they are), we might get things like gun cabinets, sleeping/spawn points, etc.   I could also see a property box like we have in camps but I think they would still like to keep players limited to what they can store and carry.

I want to see a posse of 7 roll up into Valentine on those little things.

So I had grand visions of setting up a cinematic journey through New Austin while wearing Spanish themed clothing, riding the majestic donkey. It was beautiful, but I wished I had at least two other posse members on donkeys too LOL.

I passed a pair of NPC riders and one actually bust out laughing, which made it even better. I also ran into a posse of players who I'm sure laughed as well since they stopped and turned around and waved lol

New suggestion to float before I submit:

Hatbands - Take your favourite hat and unlock a fancy new hatband or trinket (feathers, conchos, beads) for it.

It would give a more personalized flair. My absolute favourite hat is the Diamondback Hat but the big whole snake as a hatband is absolutely hideous and "tacky", especially on the black one with a grey snake with beady red eyes. I ended up purchasing the female Dauphine outfit for its black Diamondback Hat variation with the pink snake (ugh) because it didn't have red eyes and it seemed like a darker shade of black.

If I could get the Kennedy hatband on the Diamondback Hat, hooey! 😍

But... I like my tacky whole snake... mostly because it’s tacky and hideous though, so I see your point.

Was just airing my opinion to an acquaintance/friend the other night, he was wearing the Varmint Hat, another great looking hat absolutely shattered by the hideous rat bone hatband lol. He seemed to definitely agree.

There are some hats I really like but they simply don't offer them in the color I want (e.g. black).  Also, some that do might have two versions that either look new or old/worn.  ......so unless I want the hat to look old and worn, I can't get the color I want.

....and yeah, the bands on some of them.   ....oy vey.
