Musing about the on-line game

As well all know seemingly many people are at least unhappy with RDR2 O/L..... Including myself with regard to griefers.

But then as I was picking my way through said griefers I had a bit of an epiphany, maybe?

Let us imagine we have touched down in Nirvana with RDR2 O/L ... Somehow R* has pleased everyone, all the time...... Then what? Really... then what?

Speaking only for myself I will still not like people, I will not be in a posse, I will not be 'matched'  .... Indeed even at best the most I  can hope for is the Story experience..... Where I have a nice house, all the guns, all the kit, all the clothes and I can gamble, fish, rob, catch wild horses and so forth.

But still on-line, no matter how 'perfect' it is  I will still have to spend real time money...... R* Nirvana definitely does not include no transactions

So either I spend or die in real life... I can see my wife finding me one morning chained to the XBone...... Passed away trying to complete some stupid challenge for just one more 0.03 of a gold bar.... Indeed, politico's will soon ask questions..... Rather than most people who die in their house in west, dying on their toilet; it will soon be in front of RDR2 O/L

Honestly, I am at a total loss as to what it is I am supposed to be waiting for?

Or will there be perchance a "Jules Verne Time Machine Challenge" where one is spiralled forward in time..... into.... The time of GTA V !!! Look LQQK.... You can now buy a proper car and a beach house AND ....................................!

It's a time that R* have certainly not forgotten.

If your waiting to be hand held thought the game, go play WoW.  You can wait for no one, and do what ever you want to do.

Like they say over at Conan Exiles: Survive, build, dominate.

Folks born after the 1950s have no idea how to survive.  Gamers are no different.  Head out into the wilderness, learn to survive, go only to small towns or outposts for supplies. Build your character. Or be ganked a lot. The go back to the bigger towns and kiss a lot of donkey.

How do you play the story missions? I play alone but am open to posses and matchmaking for missions. I have a friend that plays a bit and we'll posse up but last night he kept shooting people including a player who'd done nothing to us. I don't play like that and I told him that. Tonight he stuck to Battlefield 4.

 It is interesting,  if you read the 1* ratings on Amazon they basically all translate as "This  game is  not COD!" ...... A point many  seem to  be missing.

Personally I am as usual much playing Forza 7 and Horizon 4.... far  more enjoyable.

If they had expanded the story I would have happily paid for new missions... but not how it is now with the O/L experience

I do believe there will be more next year - more story and more to do. Frankly there has to be or it'll go down the tubes. I really like RDR2O but it must improve.

A lot of generalizations there, and not good ones. What's with the crack about WoW? I've played it, nothing easy about it and the wife has played for years. I play RDR2O alone 99% of the time and have been griefed 3 times in 60 hours, so your statements aren't even true.

I guess you play your way and we'll play our way.

I'm glad I only spent $1 on a X live trial. 

RDRO is nowhere close to being finished and  and beta tested. 

It is apparent you are going to have to buy your way through this game when it is finally finished.

I ranked up 2 characters to level 200 in GTAO without buying a shark card, wont be able to do that with this game....

Not true, not at this point anyway. Most good stuff like horses and weapons are level locked so I cannot (as a rank 21 player) but them no matter how much gold I have. I can buy some hats maybe and some guns but not much more.

I have fun in this beta. "When it's finally finished" I hope I still like it.

Any game like RD Online works in 2 ways - either grind it out hard or grind less and use gold - not entirely sure what your point is. The amount of hours of entertainment from the single player and the online part do in my personal opinion validate spending some money on the online, however this is only my personal opinion. In RDO most things are level locked and some are gold locked - the gold locked items (althugh debatable) currently - do not give you an edge.

Agreed there is not much content at this time and compared to GTA RDO will struggle more in this regard due to it's setting, however there are still a lot of possibilities and ideas that can be implemented into the game. The question is, how and what will Rockstar do. I guess we will have to see.

Also and this is not meant as an attack on OP - but why would you want to play solo online? If anything the game should evolve around building a strong Posse with a home, run businesses and do things together and have collective goals to achieve. Even the single player has it's focus on the posse. In my personal opinion if you want to play purely solo wouldn't it be more fun to do this in the story mode? If you do not like people, why would you want to play online? I cannot really understand the arguments you make about the online experience if you do not like people/do not want to be in a posse/ do not want to be matched.

Griefing is a stupid thing - Rockstar should have made free roam mode free aim and lower damage alongside with penalties for the attacker, unfortunately this isn't the case. There might still be coming changes though, as Rockstar stated they are trying more anti-griefing measures in the future.

 

What you are waiting for you ask? You will need to figure out what this game is/will be worth to you spending your time and perhaps money in. If you going this way solo, I can only say that you are going to miss out on a part of the game, whether or not this matters to you I don't know. In my opinion RDO will only be viable longer term if the focus will be on building a posse and have common goals to collect/grind/compete for. Rockstar will have to navigate a fine line with the microtransactions in order to sustain a balance in the playerbase and this will make RDO less of a moneymachine compared to GTA online.
