General Tech Discussion

Welcome, all!  I wanted to create a general thread for all things tech related.  Tech chat includes anything from smartphones, PC's, TV's and all general electronic devices.  You can use this thread to share PC builds, showcase desktops/phone-launchers or battlestations, new purchases (for those who want to show off :p), and chat about all general news/events.

Recently in the news, the advent of crypto-mining  has completely destroyed supply for gaming GPU's.  I'm just glad I picked up my GTX 1070 back when it first came out.

Also, I figured I'd get the ball rolling on showcasing my version OCD and anally-retentive Android launcher.  :D How do I find anything on my phone?  I'll never know.

That is a very plain launcher. I use Nova myself. It is the only one I am comfortable with these days on Android phones. I'm still on the s6 as well.

I like Nova, but I used Apex.  I'm just glad there's room for customization.  When I left iPhone, I never went back.

Ummm, I think I had one of the first ones,  then had a 3GS, and then a 4.  After that, I bought a Nexus 5 and stuck with Android.  Now I have a OnePlus 3T.

I think most people stick to iPhones because they're used to them.   I like to fiddle with things, and I especially love customization, so yeah I agree, iPhone is too plain and boring for me.

I don't know a single person to go from iPhone to Android back to iPhone but I know plenty of people to go from Android then iPhone and back. Those phones suck to me. All hype and overpriced.

Anyways... Has anyone every rooted their phone on here? I am debating on doing that on my old phone just to see if I can. I don't want to chance ruining my current one.

Yes, mine is rooted.  It's pretty straightforward, if you follow the directions.  Some developers actually create simple programs to make it even easier, depending on the phone you have.

I have Magisk root installed. It protects the SafteyNet so that you can continue to use AndroidPay.  It also has some nice tweaks, like the non-ad with background-play YouTube app.  Certainly worth it, in my opinion.

I recently bought a LG 49 inch 4K LED HDR tv from amazon for a cheap price, I am quite happy with the picture and sound quality. I mostly use it for my PS4. Quite good for a cheap tv.

My only issue with the tv is the global dimming, eventually I managed to fix that problem.

Check out the links below and let me know what you think, thanks.

Bought it from Amazon.

Review of the tv.

Nice purchase.  I think this is the UJ6300 in the US, which is a good TV, especially given the low input lag for gaming.  Thought about buying it, but I ultimately went with a TCL 4K TV.
