D3x
Okay I have seen several people saying this will continue the story and maybe back track it to before RDR1 with John and all that gang stuff. What I don't get is how are they going back in time if we see street lights in the game trailer?? That would mean it is going forward not back. Also, it would make no sense to continue on with John's story because there is nothing left to it. If it is a sequel... I want some proof where Rockstar has stated this. VampireKrush
I don't think it is but no one really has a clear answer. I mean when you watch the trailer there are 7 men and one says a few lines. Some people believe it has to do with Marston because of his past in the first one dealing with gangs. I don't know about the street lights or anything like that. SNIP3XL
I can't recall the source but read somewhere that it will be a prequel because Marston is back... and if he is back, then given the way RDR1 ended then it must be a prequel!
Alborghetti
Rockstar hasn't stated anything about it being a prequel or sequel, however a lot of hints indicate we'll be playing a prequel: https://www.rdr2.org/news/red-dead-redemption-2-voice-actors-hint-prequel/ http://www.polygon.com/2016/10/17/13306652/red-dead-redemption-2-prequel-theory http://www.usgamer.net/articles/red-dead-redemption-2-is-almost-certainly-a-prequel
UKSammy84
Add another vote for the prequel theory from me... of course it would be AWESOME to get another trailer from Rockstar, so maybe we had a little bit more information that 3/5ths of sweet FA to go on
Suck3rPunch3d
I am almost certain it will be a prequel that ties in to a sequel. If that makes sense. It will be a bit of the past and a bit of the future surrounding RDR1. John will be in the game yes, but not as a playable character.

Like being able to have a bit before the story and a bit after. I wouldn't mind that actually.

It will give us more of an idea where John came from and who he used to be too.
