  1. You miss my point Kean, I'm one of your fellow non-griefers, but if I'm getting shot for doing nothing, then it's by a griefer who possibly thinks they're also a non-griefer, see what I mean?
  2. One thing I do take from RL into RDR is taking responsibility for my actions. I stand around sometimes, so I get shot as a result, I take that risk. Other people shoot people *without provocation* they decide are griefers, but refuse to see that they are the very problem they come on here to complain about. Some self-awareness is called for, that's all. (and btw, I don't think griefers are a problem, just a nuisance like we find everywhere, I accept them as part of the 'social' in gaming)
  3. I wasn't telling you what you do, I was telling you what I do. It's fine. Just remember you shoot people who are no threat to you too.
  4. Excellent work Red, thanks.
  5. Youtube videos are proof of nothing, and claims of Youtube videos that no-one has seen are proof only of your trolling. So you don't like Rockstar. So what. I love them. I'm the player base.
  6. madfretter, you're the problem. We're not all like that, some of us stand around for 10 minutes because we've forgotten what we're doing, or we're watching the feckin sun set! then some mad fretter comes up and shoots us in the head... You're the problem.
  7. As a huge fan of RDR too, Purist, I have to say with respect that I didn't understand a lot of what you said. I'm afraid RDR is just so accessible to (often older) casual gamers, and takes place in such a familiar world, that I think you'll find more people than usual depending on the aid of mechanics. I'm not even completely sure what the Ability cards do yet and my use of Deadeye is pretty haphazard still. If I kept my gun cocked while I'm running about I'm sure to shoot someone friendly, and some of us need a good spawn distance (in Free Roam at least) so we can run like squealing hogs when we get a headshot from a xx-ninjakilla-xx with a rolling block on our way into the hairdressers. ("Leave it Esther, t'aint worth it, just ain't worth it...") I'm partly joking, you don't want to mess with me some nights, getting to L40 ain't pretty 😉 I'm just saying it's the kind of game I take to because I know it's not full of crack shooters with lightning reflexes and a thirst for headcounts. It's a big hit, so everyone's here and I can survive 5 minutes in Valentine! Hurray! I really hope you can enjoy the game too, but you probably have a much wider range of options than some. And, as I keep telling myself it's early days, so you might get some of what you want in time.
  8. If you look around all the saloons and bars have their gaming tables (where they are in Story mode)... just sitting there... empty as yet... *rubs hands...*
  9. A wee tip, get the Lake Lure out just opposite the butcher in Blackwater, Lake Sturgeon are plentiful and it's the quick carry across to the butcher that makes the difference, you can rack up a few every time you're down there. Admittedly it's a busy bit and shots to the head while you actually have a fishing rod in your hands is a hazard, but I've had few problems lately.
  10. It's become a lot more stable already, but I'm actually glad I got to fall through the ground in Tumbleweed and tumble down through the Void... endlessly... screaming... that was worth the experience. Imagine if that happened to you in real life...
  11. First time my horse pooed when I was standing there I squealed... I still don't know if it was disgust or excitement that he could do that! I use my "What's that smell?" emote on my horse more than I use it on other people...
  12. You're right no-where's safe Mary, I come into the RDR world to get away from the Tinselfest in the real one. I thought RDR was about creating a realistic, believable Wild West. Christmas music in the saloons just spoils RDR2.
  13. I love all of RDR2 but I particularly enjoy racing, with other real people, that's what makes online racing, obvs. Not winning a race is a challenge to try to win the next one. Again, seems obvs. So I'm good at racing, and although I play the full game a lot of my near-40 levelling has come from racing. I think that's allowed and ok. Today I joined a Race Series, won the 1st race (PtoP with a full field), won the 2nd (Open) and someone kicked, won the 3rd (Open) and got 3 kicks... So, I reined back, transferred to my big lumbering Shire horse Meg, and if I hadn't been shot in the back of the head going over Bart's Crossing (again!) then I would have won the 4th instead of coming 3rd... But by this time half the lobby are leaving and the other half are kicking me! I can only play a few races in a row because my heart starts racing too, and that's not good for me (I'm getting on) so I have to rest anyway and I left that lobby, but it hurts a bit, I don't shoot when I'm racing cos my aim is rubbish and I usually fall off and you don't gain points for killing, you just pull someone back in the race. I do punch people, but only if they punch first, or if I feel like it, but generally not aggressively, I would much rather race alongside someone and get my nose ahead before my fist... though I do enjoy a good back and forth punchj-up, not saying I don't. What I don't get is why some people just cannot take being beaten by a better racer in a race. Surely if shooting other people is your thing that day, got to a Showdown. You want to race? Go to a race, you want to kick people when they beat you fairly? Got to kindergarten and start again. Thanks, had to get it out...
  14. Christmas music in the saloons is all well and good, but you can't shoot the piano player. I've tried. Even dynamite doesn't stop the noise. I've tried.
  15. This happened last night. I passed a gang hideout, there was only one pink dot near, probably hunting cos it was up at Fort Riggs, so I cleared it (no treasure map - again) and looted the lot. Then, because I'm tidy, I started clearing the bodies and popping them on the campfire. This pinkdot cowboy came up and joined me, helped build a pile, which when they caught light was quite a sight. We friended. Then, not knowing what what else to do, I got up on my horse and shot him. Now here I have to put my hands up and say this was entirely in my control, I hit the buttons, I take responsibility, but I really was intending to wave at him. It happens, it has happened to me before, anyway. What to do..? So I got off my horse and knelt down (rested). He waved at me at rode off. I hope that meant he took my sincere apology, but how else do you make one? There's no emote I can think of for "sorry, I meant to say hi rather than shoot you", but I can think of one emote choice I might use a lot, and it's a Western emote... "hands up" (I know, headset audio would help, but I don't use one, never heard anything from him so assume that means he doesn't either?)
  16. That's an interesting question, partly because if my gameplay reflects my RL personality then I should probably start worrying about my sanity. My gameplay expresses my imagination (so it is me) in ways I can't, or shouldn't express it in the street. That is the point of turning on the PS4, tuning in to RDR2 and dropping out of RL, temporarily... However, I can only express my imagination up to a point, it's still a limited world. Everyone is aware of the limited emote functions, and we would all love more, cos just waving, or randomly spitting, is kinda limited. Btw I'm not complaining here, I'm just pointing out that our imaginations are boundless, CGI isn't, yet. So in this limited world how do we interact with each other? We can race each other, we can kill each other... I'm thinking... I'm sure others will see it differently and add other ways we can interact, but my point is just that there are limited ways to interact in the Online game except attack each other. I don't, voluntarily, but I do enjoy a fight (else I wouldn't be here) and can see why others do. I do think it's happening less already though, it's still a New World remember, though it's becoming less of a Wild West as we play, entirely in keeping with the game...
  17. I punched my horse. I screamed louder than him and spent half an hour patting him and apologising. Still no idea what I had pressed, think I was looking for a biscuit...
  18. Sorry Kean, don't want you to think I don't take it or you seriously, and I get what you're saying, particularly losing pelts, or big fish, to begin with I hated losing stuff and I'm not saying it's easy to say it's just a game, that comes with it feeling so real, I get why people call it that. I'm all for consequences, I would like a penalty on bad honour, but I have to admit, as much as I love to role-play a ridiculously friendly character (I wave, a lot), I have to allow that some want to role-play the irredeemable outlaw, the Micah Bell if you will. I guess I'm trying to find a way to keep enjoying it for as long as I can. I'm an old sod, and casual gamer, but I'm mainly single-player, and for me, probably because I'm older, I still get an actual kick out of it being other people, all over Europe, playing together. This tech is fab, really, I feel I lost so much of my life to Sonic, I was cheated! I'm just trying to enjoy it, not down on anyone, really.
  19. And cigarette cards, yes I forgot that too... or something worth checking all those little outhouses for... but the cards, yes, I always went "Oooh..."
  20. Yes, definitely more emotes would be cool, I don't use a headset (that world is a mystery to me) so my communication is very basic... I try whistling in morse code, but god it sounds awful... I hope the gambling mini-games, Poker & Blackjack will appear (Dominoes not so much), and I would have thought once stability issues are sorted, that we should be able to have more choice in race/showdown games venues/melee/etc. A rotation of new races would be cool to keep us race addicts on our toes, I enjoy being totally confused in the middle of an open race, make it happen again! And non-ballistic races, give me baseball bats, boxing gloves, machetes, (I love a good melee at the start of a race), even dynamite, but not guns. I would love not to get shot in the back when I'm approaching the finish line in 1st place, but I know that's a personal thing. This game is a huge step forward, in the world it has created, but lets be imaginative with the Online, lets hope for all those graveyards (you noticed how many there are?) to burst forth with the Undead at midnight on Halloween wherever in the world you are, that sorta cool. It's live! And dead! And live again! I wish I could mess about a bit more at camp, more to do, and I wish it would stay where I put it. I would love to use it as a base, for a single session even, but as soon as he's out of your sight that old buzzard packs up and moves it to Cholla Chuffin' Springs! I've ended up lugging about half a butchers shop of raw AND cooked meats cos I'm never sure when I'm going to find a campfire, and I hate to even think about expiration dates... Little and often is my motto, also Persevere, that's my other motto, but that's another story...
  21. Some people get too serious in here. I try to remember it's a game and I play it for fun, sometimes I wish others would too. The one thing you can do in here you can't do in RL is die with no consequence, so it's actually something I quite enjoy. Falling off a bridge or building or taking a rifle shot in the head, it's a laugh, you just appear half a mile away fully healed and keep playing, what's the problem? There are of course things I enjoy playing with more than a head full of bullets, so if I'm not in the mood I'll generally shift server or go for a race, it only takes seconds. But today, having just spawned in, still checking my map, three guys on two horses come by. I'm just standing, no gun, and it's the usual tired old lasoo, hogtie, shot in the head routine... where's the fun in that tired old play, everyone's done it now. So, not being in the mood, I went after them and made them pay, much more than I expected I have to say, cos I usually can't shoot for sh*t, but after two runs at them I ran away, and so did they. I can't think of them as griefers, that's too bitter, they're just playing, as I was, before, during, and after. I'm not daft, I'm getting my money's worth.
  22. I'm not above being hogtied, so long as I'm at the very least dropped off on a train track, or over Brandywine Drop, use some imagination! I just wish I could emote muffled screams...
  23. Hi Tenti, loved your post, thanks. I'm not new to gaming, but I'm a very casual gamer. Having played since the days of Pong (I remember travelling half the country to see one of the first machines), and having spent far too long in dark rooms playing Defender and Asteroid, I know what we went through to get here, and I am just overwhelmed with the RDR2 world, still, weeks later, with games as John, Arthur, and my online character Esther Pangloss going, I can still get mindlessly lost in the beauty of a ride through the Cumberland Forest, I still get alligator-anxious down in Lemoyne, and I felt great the first time I landed a Channel Catfish, huge it was, so I grunt and heave it on the back of Meg, my trusty Shire, trot off to the butchers in St Denis, big smile on my face, waving (cos it's about all I can emote so far...) and I'm standing at the butchers when I get shot in the head. God I was pissed. Like yourself, I understand, I like nothing more than getting one over as well, and if I'm in a fight I'll give as good as I get, but just now it's just annoying. More often than not I'll ride away from that if I can, or go into a Race Series (cos I'm better at riding than shooting and we should always play to our strengths) I would love to see some sort of bounty arrangement beyond the current feud/parley choice to discourage that behaviour, or partition off New Austin with free-for-all rules (which it almost is already, go there at your peril) But at the same time I take the point that it's a wild world, Online adds that danger element which if you don't like, stick to Story mode. My hope is that the headshotters bore quickly, and people with imagination, who love a role-play, who like to race and shoot, who appreciate that this is a toy and a game and not a piece of work, not a grind, is something to be enjoyed, that they stay, people who'll be impressed with such a sweet little old woman landing such a humongous fish...
  24. I just assume people aren't using their imagination. It's a shame, but it's allowed. Personally I think grabbing someone's attention with your avatar at the start of a race is really important, it puts them off!
  25. To be honest, the camp placing has improved, because one day last week Cripps packed up the camp and moved it away from beside the Dakota River, *as I was swimming over the river towards it*! That was annoying, but he hasn't done it so blatantly since, I think he's getting tired of the joke...
