I fully expect to be retaliated against regardless of shooting by accident or on purpose. If by accident, I'll let them kill me.....once! LOL

Maintaining weight - just how much to eat?
Xped replied to Parzival's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
I've wondered the same. I guess my bigger question is how big the impact of being underweight is? -
Why is that a problem? I get that you'd like an area all to yourself...any hunter would. But it's more realistic to have to share a spot if you stumble across someone in the same spot. For me, reducing the risk of losing pelts and griefing were the real reason for looking for isolation.
-
Griefers don't just kill you once...they attempt to do it again and again and again. Their ultimate goal is to frustrate you to the point that you leave.
-
You won't be penalized for playing by yourself...you just won't be rewarded for it. You'll lose nothing. There are already incentives in the game to play with a Posse...I think they're just adding more benefits for people who choose and can play with others.

Just curious if you've opened the ports for RDR2 on your router. https://portforward.com/red-dead-redemption-2/ I just automatically open ports for specific games that I play online. I never seem to have network problems...but maybe I've just lucked out with a decent ISP. Is it possible that once they've killed that they've been disconnected and have simply re-logged on? I'm sure there are some goofs who hit-and-run but it also might be other issues that are occurring.

I will shoot first in the following scenarios: - when off the beaten path, unknown player comes straight at me with speed - on a path... unknown players comes at me with speed gun drawn and I've got pelts on my horse - regardless of where I am, a red dot gets a headshot! - if I notice someone riding around town shooting up the place, I will shoot them if they venture over my way - if I notice someone bullying another player, I will attempt to help. This has gotten me in trouble before as the bullied player now thinks I'm a threat, too! Ha! In that case, I won't come back to kill them if they get me first.

I've also found moose SW of Strawberry by the lake. They're not always around. You can hunt beaver there, too.

I was thinking the exact thing the other day until Cripps spawned my camp in a location SE of Valentine. I had about 10 Bison all around me. They even ran right through my camp at one point as they were spooked by a horse and carriage. I would hunt 1, bring it into Valentine to sell, and then repeat. At one point, I tried skinning one and leaving the carcass in my camp until I returned but it was gone when I came back. I've now seen them in the same area a couple of times since.

I will do this! 🙂

I like doing the missions but encounter more and more players that are only in it to do the entire thing by themselves and scoop all the kills. They don't follow the NPC's instructions and they usually hightail it straight for the "good stuff" right off the start...sometimes heading in the complete opposite direction. I've completed them all now and I'm simply doing it for the xp and fun...but man, I'd hate to be the unlucky souls who are trying these for the first time. Ruins the fun. I think R* should fix this by ensuring that all players must stay within a certain proximity of the lead NPC and/or the coordinates on the radar. This kind of stuff bothers me way more than griefer! I can kill griefers...I can't kill these guys. Any ideas on how to deal with this if I see someone doing it at the start of a mission?

Just Curious; What Level Are You & How Long Have You Been Playing?
Xped replied to KylesDad7's topic in Red Dead Online
Played RDR2 story since Christmas day...started Red Dead Online almost 3 weeks ago. Currently level 23. For the first half of my RDO 'career', I really had no clue as to how to rank up. I just hunted and gathered a lot and mixed in a few missions from time to time. I'm starting to figure things out a little now and expect to start ranking up more quickly. -
RDR2 Questions that I need the answers too!!
Xped replied to Wainwright97's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
I found it in the epilogue up in the Eastern snowy areas. However, when I jumped on, I wasn't able to tame it and it bucked me off. Ran off in the snow and I didn't have the energy that night to go after it. -
I just put my character in position and used my phone to snap a pic (no flash). Quality isn't the greatest but it gets the job done easily.

100% agree. I want a choice in the game mode I'm playing...not simply a catch-all category. I hate battle royal games. In fact, I'll go so far as to say I only like team death match or fire fight modes.

Lone wolf here. Mostly because my xbox friends have not joined the rdr2 crowd. I wish they would because playing with a group of guys you know makes any game 10x more fun.

Really Need Be Able To Keep Pelts/Hides Stowed On Horse
Xped replied to KylesDad7's topic in Red Dead Online
Yes, good lessons have been learned from either disconnects or being killed: - keep the trips short and simple - at the beginning trip, only hunt things that are not stored on the horse. I save the larger animals till the end of my trip - hunt close to cities with butchers where there is little activity...yes, Rhodes is generally good but Valentine can be good at times, too. - as your hunting inventory fills up, watch the radar more closely (after every kills I bring up the map to see where everyone is) - I will shoot and keep anything that I can keep on my person (squirrels, small birds, large birds, etc)...it all adds up and the small stuff is always running around. I keep the varmint rifle always ready. - if I'm stopped in my camp, do not keep carcasses on my horse if there's lots of activity in the area. I've had players come into my camp, remove carcasses from my horse and ride away. I couldn't risk chasing them and dying with all of the items stored on my horse. 😞 - always have a get away plan and learn the map. You may need to hightail it out of there quick if pink dots are approaching quickly. Remember, you are simply another deer out there and someone is hunting you. Predator and prey are interchangeable!!! -

Since 2004, I've been a member of a community of gamers called Xbox Mature Gamers (XMG). The 'mature' part was not age related at all. Our community has changed over time as the nature of online gaming has changed. It's now just a facebook group but I still play with many of the group. I'm approaching 51 now but can still deal quite a bit of damage in a game of hard core TDM in COD. LOL As I get slower...I play smarter. 😉

Hmmm...good question. I have the scope on the bolt and only use it if I'm far enough away from my target where pinpointing the dot on the head is difficult So....I can't say that the benefit is there without it on When I purchased the scope, I assumed it would only help for the long distance shots anyway. Now I'm curious if I'm more accurate without it on, too!

Just my opinion as that's all I really have...but I would rather wait for a real fix than one that won't meet the needs properly. I think people have become very impatient with a game that is technically still in beta. We are all helping them test this game and there are many, many technical things that still require fixes. Adding new functionality that isn't well thought out will only bring more frustrations with it. With regards to R*'s statement of online being "fun and fair", I think we can all agree that what's fun and fair to one person is not to another. Highly subjective. There are far too many different ways to make this game "fun and fair" to all. R* would never be able to support it appropriately. For me, I'm certainly not the best gun in town but I find this game already fun and fair. I would like to see the griefers dealt with (and I mean real griefers here....not just someone who shoots another player randomly). I think their sole purpose is to ruin the game for others and not simply make it more challenging. But, I want there to be a good solution and not a hair-brained idea. Personally, I don't like the parley system. I would like to see the griefer removed from the server they're playing on and put on a different one. Perhaps they will simply continue to do what they do on the other server...but it makes it a lot less fun to spend more time in loading screens and takes away their "fun" of bullying the same person. I think an escalating punitive system is much better. First time offense within a 24 hour period...server change. Second, server change plus a 10 minute timeout. Third, server change plus a 1 hour timeout. Fourth...well, you get the idea. Maybe not that exactly...but something like it.

Hey, Found this forum and all it's great info when searching the interwebs for RDR2 help. Decided to finally join after lurking for a bit. I'm not a young gamer but not too old (I hope) either. Been playing games for longer than I can remember...maybe I am too old! :-) Up until I received RDR2 for Christmas from my son, I was primarily a COD player who has gamed with the same group of guys since 2003 when Xbox Live first came out. I have not played COD since Christmas! :-) I love this game with all it's faults and glory. It's fantastic. Was a little depressed after I finished the story as I didn't t want it to end. It was like binge watching a series on Netflix and the emptiness left behind after seeing the final credits roll. I didn't know how I'd feel about the online portion. Even after finishing the game, I played as John Marston for over a week just finishing up this and that and to avoid trying online. Finally decided to give it a try. Let me just say that the fun and enthusiasm to play has continued without skipping a beat. Just approaching level 20 now and have enjoyed the journey. Griefers? I don't care much about. If it gets too out of hand, i always have the option to leave or find another area of the map to play in if I can get away. I can't say that I'm in any sort of PvP or PvE camp. I enjoy the game for what it is right now and look forward to whatever it's going to be. If I'm on and I'm hunting or fishing to earn some cash, I watch the radar a lot. I actually enjoy the challenge of protecting my gatherings...part of the game, IMO. I think this game allows you to play anyway you want...you just have to change your tactics depending on what you want to do. Anyhow...too much to say in an intro! LOL
