Frame Rate Drops

Not sure if your far into the game yet, but I noticed when entering towns, the frame rate drops big time, and everything starts to get a little skippy when panning and looking around the town quickly. Once I leave the town, everything becomes smooth again. I know the PS4 or XBOX isn't a powerhouse performance when it comes to gaming like the PC is, but have you guys been experiencing the frame rate dropping when going into towns. This is really my only complaint of the game so far, let me know in the comments below.

I have yet to play it but it can be a few different reasons. Usually dropped frame rates are down to your internet, not the game or the console. Is your ping going up and down when this happens?

The story mode has nothing to do with the internet speed, the full game has been downloaded and my download speed is 100mbps which is fantastic speeds.

I haven't noticed any issues. I also haven't slept in a while so I could have overlooked it lol I will keep an eye out of it if it happens and let you know. You running it on the disc or dl? I don't think that would make a difference though. You think it might be your screen/tv?

@DylBandit

Hey Dylan,  I just got into free roam last night so I'll check tonight when I get on as I'm sure I will want to go into town to check it out.

....and yeah, ping has nothing to do with it as you mentioned.  One other thought....  Do you have Netflix, Amazon Prime or another app running on your PS4?  I've noticed that if I don't use the option button to close one of those applications after I exit, they will still run in the background and sometimes cause lag in some games.

Just throwing out ideas.  I'll report back on my own experience as well (regular PS4 here).

Even if there is some drops in major towns, we only have the day one patch.....this is Rockstar biggest games and we will be getting many patches for the next couple of years....they will iron out all the bugs, glitches and performance issues.....be patient cow punchers.

Yeah I have the regular PS4 and everything is closed in the background. When you get to the town, move and look around in a fluid motions, the game will get a little choppy, once you leave the town into open terrain areas, it will be butter smooth again. I know it's a big game, but the console struggles in the busy areas, hopefully they will release a patch to trim some of the strain on the console.

Ok, I visited Valentine on a few occasions tonight and really didn't notice any frame rate issues. Even with pedestrians, wagons and horses all moving about.  Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention as I admittedly forgot about this conversation while in the game. If there was some stuttering, it was not that noticeable (for me at least) otherwise it would have bugged me as well.  I'll keep an eye out though.

When you go into the town with your horse, do a spin the with the camera and look around fast, you can see the frame rate drop major. I just looked this up, and this is a common problem for pretty much all consoles. The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X is also having a little frame rate drop.

I play RDR2 on my ps4pro. I'm very sensitive to fps drops. Occasionally I see few fps drops here and there. Not only in town areas. When I pan my camera very slowly, game sometimes stutter, camera motion is not fluid. Hope Rockstar fix it soon, because this game is awesome, and this issue is ruining my experience.

I played around with the camera movement some more in town and noticed it last night. There was some noticeable stutter at times. Luckily for me, I felt it wasn't anything too major as to affect gameplay but as mentioned, I'm sure it will be noticed and addressed in an upcoming update (s).

Same here, in valentine the stuttering and freezes  is horrible, its unplayble for me on standard ps4. The ps4 is clean and not overheating, sorry for my bad English.

Im having exactly the same problem on the Xbox One S, in the country the Framerate is smooth and runs good, then as soon as I go into Valentine the framerate becomes so choppy and laggy it almost becomes unenjoyable to play, i have never paid attention to framerates on console games before but it seems there is such a drop in Framerate in the city its the Noticeable for the first time in years on my part, fingers crossed they update the game to make the framerate smooth

Any turning of the camera on my brand new PS4 (not pro) results in dizzying levels of background stutter, even in secluded areas with no animals around... it's quite disheartening... considering returning and getting PS4 Pro instead; do you guys think that'll help with the issue (as in does the Pro handle turning a lot better)?

I'd be curious to view gameplay footage from those with the issue to see if it's worse for others or simply due to personal perspective. While I noticed a bit while spinning around in Valentine (trying to replicate the problem) it's nowhere near a point where it affects the game for me.  In fact, until this thread, I never really noticed it until I purposely tried to replicate it. I mean, I've played games where FPS dropped noticeably and made the experience frustrating.  .....but not in this case or at least not yet.

I have the same issue when I am entering a busy town. The game is struggling when you are with a lot of people in a small place. The frame drop happens to me in Valentine but also sometimes in camp when everybody is there. Hope Rockstar have noticed it so it can be fixed very soon. The game is absolutely beautiful but the frame drop is my only issue

So i bought a new one x for this game and the framerate seems Not so Fluid, like every test site teils it.

Some people say it runs better on a ps4 pro in 1080p that makes me sad.

I bought this console to have the best experiences. Hope they fix it.

Yeah the FPS feels really low in the towns. Saint Denis feels the worst like 15 FPS...

If I remember right, they had this same issue in RDR1 and removed some of the people in the towns to smooth the FPS.

They would have to remove people, or maybe even remove the dust effects, or even lower the resolution if they have to.

Graphic options in the menu would be nice to have so we could lower the activity in these towns.

Yeah it's a minor issue for me.
