debbo89
I’m struggling to get to grips with hunting. I do eagle eye to find the line of the animal, press RB to follow it but the line is so faint on the floor I can barely see it. If I injure an animal and it runs off, it runs in all sorts of directions and circles, so it’s then impossible to track because the lines are all overlapping. What am I doing wrong? Anyone got any tips?

Just keep using eagle eye, even after pressing RB to track. 1 minute ago, debbo89 said: If I injure an animal and it runs off, it runs in all sorts of directions and circles, so it’s then impossible to track because the lines are all overlapping. Hunting is quite tricky in this game. It's not like FC Primal or other games, it takes patience and planning, but above all practise. You need to follow the animal, watching it for a while, then choose the moment when you want to take your shot. If you do it when there's loads of other animals around or in an area where they can hide easily then you will have these problems. I've not lost one injured animal yet so it's more than possible. Thanks. Sounds like I just need to be more patient then! I've been spending majority of my time doing the missions so think I need to spend a few hours just out in the wilderness and practice.
Painevader
Hi , sorry I don't want to bother you , but I am so frustated , I'm trying to complete the third hunt challenge but I don't understand how I can locate the animal thank to the binocolars. I use it , I see the animal and I study it but after that I remain with 0 / 10 animal locate. Is there anybody so polite to help me? Thanks! Californialicenseplate
I feel you man. But if you have ever hunted in real life you know it's actually quite difficult. You don't always hit your target clean and sometimes wounded animals survive and get away. The game does an alright job at replicating this. Also dead eye is your friend. You have a much better chance at one shot killing your target if you hit critical points (highlighted by red on your target). Also, hunting becomes much easier when you unlock manual dead eye on my opinion. Edited October 29, 2018 by Californialicenseplate

I haven't unlocked the red critical points yet but hopefully it'll make things a bit easier when i do.
KRooKeD KRoW
While using Eagle Eye, the trail you see for the animal has a bit of an animation to it. It has a pulsing kind of animation (not exactly sure how to describe it) that moves in a specific direction on the trail. Whichever direction the pulses are moving is which direction the animal went. That should help when the tracks overlap. I also just started using the deadeye finally for hunting, tho not very efficiently. usually use it just to slow down time to get a headshot, tho it seems that is not always the best place to get a clean kill for a perfect pelt, so the critical points perk is probably a huge help. Shot 3 arrows into a gator's head and he just ran off like it was nothing.

I think that's the one where you have to track 10 different species with binoculars. When you use them and have an animal in your sights press the button that selects "Track". It's triangle on PS4 or Y on Xbox.

Anyone got any tips? I flick between the eagle eye where it shows the line then swap to the footprints one and back to the line one most of the time. Took a bit of getting used to it. Different animals seem to be sensitive to your distance from them. Rabbits are the bane of my existence in this game. Hated that second hunter challenge. Always go for a head shot, just a matter of positioning yourself right, try and find the higher ground helps.
Weaselman914
Also, once you have studied an animal, if you press R1 when it is in your sights or in binoculars, the details will tell you what type of weapon to use. I kept trying to kill a badger with the varmint repeater when you need to use the carbine or Lancaster - killed it with one shot then.

To be fair, I only hunt deer, so I can see your point on a smaller animal if you're hunting with open sights, but I'm not a senseless butcher--that venison goes in my freezer. After you spot then, then study them, then you get the option to track them. It's one of the easier ones really.
