satchels ?

Can someone explain which is better? When I read the descriptions it doesn't really say what one does over the other. Some hint towards tonics, or cash items, but "general items" or "provisions" isn't really clear.

I've crafted all but 2 of them and I can't tell you if one does more than the other. If I had to pick one I'd rather have one that allows for more rabbit pelts and small pelts, if that's even an option.

It would be nice if it would break down what the regular satchel holds vs the upgraded ones?

The upgrades are for certain sections of your satchel (one upgrades the tonics section to 15 of each item, one for your kit, one for your ingredients, etc). The Legend of the East Satchel (final upgrade) lets you hold 99 of each item (in ALL sections). You need all the other upgrades to unlock the last one.

OK cool, I completed the "materials" one last night so I guess I'll go with that one. I don't have the last one completed and one other, not sure which. I didn't really care about tonics, just wanted the one that allows for more small pelts/skins.

you want all the satchels, each one expands space for it's specified items.  Then you want to get the Legend of the East satchel which gives you max storage.

By default you can hold 5 items max.  5 venison, 5 game meat, etc.

Tonics satchel increases the amount of Tonics you can carry,

ingredients increases those items (cooking ingredients),

Kit satchel not sure what it has, i know the campfire is in it to make your camp.

Provisions are your cooked or canned foods

materials are your crafting materials, feathers, etc.

Valuables is your loot satchel, rings, belt buckles, and other stuff you loot off bodies.

I strongly advise that you go for the Legend of the East Satchel. Holding 99 of each item feels like a cheat code.

It's only going to make the rest of the game easier and more enjoyable. As soon as I found out about it, I stopped working on the story and went straight to hunting. I'm still on chapter 2, but I'll never have to leave loot behind again. I can hunt/fish for days without worrying about space (really helping with animal fat). All in all, it's a worthwhile investment of your time.

I almost cried last night, I was over getting 3 star beaver pelts, a 3 star Wolf showed up, then a 3 star moose. I got them all, then made a bee-line to the trapper and camp, I proceeded to fall in the darn lake and the moose and wolf fell off the horse, I was like oh HELL NO, but I was able to pick them up out of the water.  I was nervous as all get out LOL

i just started chapter 3,  have yet to do any story missions in it though.  FIgured it was a good time to get all the benefits from the challenges and whatnot before i continued on to make the rest of the story easier   And tonight i have nothing going on for once after work so i'll be playing from when i get home until i look at the clock and go "Oh @#$*!! I gotta get to bed!"  lol

I'm only in chapter 3 myself, I thought I was farther along, been playing since day one, A LOT! I've completed probably 80% of the trapper outfit and clothes and probably 90% of the camping upgrades. I enjoy hunting, fishing, and taming wild horses more than the missions LOL

Looking at it now, I need 1 perfect panther to complete the Kit satchel, then I'll need 1 perfect cougar to complete the Legend one.

Not sure where to get panthers, I know cougars are West side of Strawberry.

Ditto that.  But it was that way with RDR also for me.  And i'm a huge fan of the hunting games anyway.  Before this I spent a good portion of my week playing TheHunter: Call of the Wild.  I was really happy the hunting in RDR2 is almost as realistic, and at some things more realistic, than the hunting game.

Yeah that was my first few attempts... The panther was the most difficult, but the most fulfilling. I really enjoyed that hunt.

Edit: it's 12 days to gun season on deer in Ohio, and I'm ready to roll.  FYI, skinning a deer is not as easy as Arthur makes it look.

i thought that was fairly easy.  I got kicked on my arse once, had to chase him down 3 or 4 times but that was it.  Took maybe 15 minutes.   I'm still fuming that i lost him when i died in Valentine.  I jumped off him in the auction area, maybe that was my mistake, he got auctioned i bet. lol

Oh well. I'm exploring more than anything, so having it now is probably more beneficial than for those who want to focus on the story.

It may depend on the terrain where you make the attempt.  I know it can spawn in multiple areas, and I (foolishly) tried mine in the far north where the snow came up to my knees, and the damn thing was running a picket fence through trees.  That white on white is pretty tough to track when you've been roleplaying Arthur IRL as a cantankerous middle aged man with borderline alcoholism.

You don't need to choose one upgraded satchel over another upgraded satchel, lets say you upgraded tonics and then valuables, when you get the valuables the tonics upgrade is still in effect or so it should be that way. Like everyone said, aim for Legend, there is no downside to upgrading your satchel only benefits hahahaha

He spawned on the southwest side of lake isabella, i chased him from there to the northwest near that little fallen down shack and then north from that until i finally caught him.
