Can Far Cry Be The Reason?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I am new here. Not sure if this was a topic that was made but I was talking about it with a friend...

Seeing as the new Far Cry is going to be set in an old west type setting similar to what RDR2 will be, do you think this is why there might have been no news on it yet? Like maybe they found out about it and they are trying to "one up" Far Cry so they can make sure they don't steal any of their fire when it comes to the old western game setting? I mean if I made a game and found out another major title was going to have similar aspects, I would be a bit worried.

There is coincidentally an article on this topic on the front page - https://www.rdr2.org/news/far-cry-5-compete-red-dead-redemption-2-year/

I don't think that Rockstar would be concerned with Ubisoft/Far Cry in the slightest. Sure, FC is a popular series, but it is NOTHING compared to Red Dead. If anything Ubisoft are probably holding off announcing anything about their new game (and maybe even delaying it) until RDR2 has been released for a while... Otherwise they might try and announce and release it before RDR2 is launched, particularly if there is a delay.

I feel like people who like Far Cry will either not have much interest in RDR2 or they will happily play both. I don't see Far Cry stealing any sales away or anything like that. Those games are good but Rockstar, when they release a game, everyone takes notice.

They may be doing a similar genre but no one is going to be comparing the two games, trust me. It is like comparing apples and oranges. They are both similar in shape but the colors are different and some people are more of apple fans while others are more or orange fans. I am basically saying what Nic said.

Rumours say it will be more of a modern western.

Yup that is what I was reading as well. Which is fine. I am a Far Cry fan so I would be disappointed to have two games to play in a similar time.

I like the thought you had here. I mean when you think about it, it WOULD make sense that it might make them a bit weary but you have to consider that FC5 is going to be a more modern western and they focus heavily on other kinds of stories. Nothing like Rockstar does.

This is the 10th time i am seeing something about this and honestly, this will never be the reason. Far Cry is a completely different game and plays nor feels nothing like RDR. Even though we don't know much about the new one yet I know it will be completely different.

Yeah I mentioned this elsewhere and people have said the same. I guess the games are different enough to the point where both of them being "westerns" doesn't really factor into anything.
