I noticed after I got a second horse, it was summoning the old one sometimes and the new on other times. I had to change the settings in the quick menu. In the stables options, you can change which horse you call for various activities. So you can have a race horse set for free roam, and a war horse set for series or missions, or however you want it set up.

Have you tried killing that one off and seeing if the other shows in its place? I did that and it worked for me. I am not sure if this is a bug or I am just overlooking some mechanics here.

Yeah I can't even kill the horse with dynamite but I'll try Krows advice.

I'm having the exact same problem here.  It happens every single time I respawn, I get the message that I have no horse available and I have to drive a nag to the stable to pick up my actual horse.  And yes, I have it set as my active horse, since it is saddled up in the stable and has the "stable" option in the menu.  Has anyone figured this out yet?

The problem I am having with my horse is the bonding level keeps resetting. I had a level 4 bond and earned the gold belt buckle and it keeps resetting. But if I target and show info on horse it shows that the bond meter is full. Yet I log on and start playing, then I get the bond level 1 message and so on. Also got the prompt telling me I earned the buckle for that reward, but go into my awards page and it shows up empty and shows I haven't completed the challenges. Confused as all hell over this one.

I tried fixing the horse settings for free roam and that didn't work either.

Hey, update.  Somehow, something changed/worked.  I went to the stable and 'tack' and mashed a bunch of buttons.  For some reason I noticed I also cannot change my saddle on my horse, so no equipping the old one.  However, clicking around in there must've triggered something because I'm now able to call my horse like normal.  Hopefully this lasts. Good luck on your end!

I'm having some trouble now understanding the bonding.  I had my Scrawny Nag, and got to level 4 bond pretty quick.  Got rid of it after I got a second stall and my free Thoroughbred.  Have had the Thoroughbred about as long as I had the Nag, and only now just hit level 2 bond.  Do the higher end horses take longer to bond with?  Would kinda make sense, but I wasn't sure.

Okay update:  logged in tonight and I'm back to the scrawny nag problem.  Went to the stable and clicked all around in the saddles and other menus like before but no luck this time.  I forgot to mention that my horse also keeps resetting it's bonding  and every time I pull him from the stable I'm back to level 1.  I have failed/died so many times because of this lame nag. What a frustrating bug!

I just had this happen too! So I called the nag and then hit left on the D-pad and went to stables. My main horse was listed and said $4.00 next to it. I had the option to heal it by hitting A so I did but I still had to go to a stable to get it. Weird because to my knowledge she never got hurt.

Hey, so you need to press left on the dpad(xbox) to bring up the little box meny were you can set up camps and stuff.

Now select stables, next go to specialty and make sure your horse is set as prime under each category.

Hope this helped.

I will say that it seems like there is still a few bugs with setting up your horse.

Ahhh, thank you guys!  I didn't realize there was a way to heal the horse from the D-pad menu.  Healing it in the stable did not work for me, but the D-pad menu "heal" did.  I figured this was a bug but maybe it's the intended penalty for not having horse insurance?

Anyone else noticed that not only does your horse rank reset on its own, but it manages to magically change sex between different missions/activities. I bought a female horse, but noticed my horse yesterday after a mission had some rather large swingers between its legs and then after another mission they were gone again, quick fire surgery! Poor horsey.

Try purchasing HORSE INSURANCE for the horse that you actually want to use.  This will automatically heal your horse any time it dies. If not then you will always have to hit left on DPAD, go to stable, and select "heal Horse". The problem that i noticed is that when people log offline, their horse can sometimes remain in the world for long periods of time. Long enough to get shot by some asshole or starve to death. Anytime your main horse dies, rather than leave you without a horse, the scrawny nag will come in its stead until you either heal your main horse in the menus (costs $4) or...you physically retrieve it from a stable.

And yea. my bond always resets back to 1 also which is only supposed to happen if it dies, which supports my previous statement about the horses persisting in the game when you log off. My cousin got offline and his horse stayed near camp while i fought other players for at least 30 minutes.

Ah yeah, I never thought about horses staying around in the world and that they could potentially die that way. That would be pretty silly if that is what is actually happening.

How could you make sure if doesn't happen, would telling your horse to flee before exiting the game help at all? when a horse flees does it actually run away and de-spawn or does it just run off but actual linger in the game somewhere?

I have also have it where after a mission I can see my horse, go up to it, see it definitely is mine from the name but it doesn't show as my horse on the mini-hud & when I get on it it comes up saying i'm a horse thief. So I whistle for my horse and then I have 2 of my horses next to me but only 1 the game thinks is actually mine.

I've had my horse de-spawn when telling to flee and had it linger both. Lost some animal carcus because of this too...so not sure which is correct. But I've never had my horse duplicate so sorry friend
