Computer accessory company Logitech announced today that it’s acquiring Astro Gaming, a popular console gaming headset maker, for $85 million in cash. Astro will join the Logitech G division, Logitech’s PC gaming-focused sub-brand, as part of a broader effort by the accessory maker to gain a better foothold in the console market. The deal is expected to close by the end of August.

Needless to say... That is A LOT of money. Logitech is going to be the leader in terms of headsets soon enough. Not sure if they already are but it would not surprise me. Always felt they made nice stuff and now they will have Astro as well.

In CASH!? Who the heck just walks around with that much in cash!? I would have loved to seen this happen. Like some dudes in all black suits walking up with briefcases full of money... This is how I envision it in my mind..

I thought the same thing but I would imagine they did the deal via online transfer like Paypal or something.

I think this is good and bad. Good for Logitech as they acquired a very loved gaming headset brand BUT bad for other companies. Imagine how much control they will have in the video game industry now with sales and marketing.

Watch this spark a trend. I am not surprised to see this happen. Why have a partnership when you can just own the company outright? Smart move by Logitech if you ask me. Smart move indeed.

I hate this.  I specifically dislike Logitech products because every product I've purchased from them never lasted, and I only buy Astro headsets.  So now I'm worried that quality of Astro might go down the toilet.

The same thing happened with Beats by Dre. After Apple bought the line, it just garbage now. I had three different earphones from them and not a single one lasted more than 4 months. But the first pair of earbuds I ever got was before the deal with Apple and they still work. Go figure.
