Purple Cactus
If you were to just play things that advanced the story line to beat the actual campaign, how long do you think RDR2 will take to beat? I think for GTA V, the average player could beat the main story in roughly 80 hours. RDR was about 50 hours on average.
Alborghetti
80 hours? Where is that coming from lol. Howlongtobeat.com says 31 hours (and 77h if you want to do everything) for GTA V and 18 for RDR. Anyway, answering your question: I think RDR2 is going to be more like GTA V than RDR in this aspect. Jamesie
I probably spent over 200 hours just messing around in GTA V (was probably something similar in RDR) so I have no idea how long I actually took to complete the campaign itself. Always hard for me to focus just on the campaign especially when you have such beautiful settings such as the one that RDR provided. Now how long do I think RDR2 will take to beat? Probably less than 20 hours. How long do I want it to take? 200 hours!
Jamesie
Just found this rather optimistic chap that plans to do a speedrun in RDR: Quote Hello RDR community. As you can see from the title my post is about the possibility of a 100% speedrun of this game. As far as I know no one has ever done it before and my goal is to fully complete the game in hopefully 12 hours or less (time prediction). Ideally I'd love to do this before RDR 2 is released and hopefully it will be my last full 100% run of RDR. I have been routing this for about 6 months now and soon I may finally be able to showcase a full 100% speedrun providing that I can get some good recording/streaming equipment. I typically hate the idea of speed runs in general (okay hate is probably a bit strong) only because they typically rely on glitches in the game. This however looks like a sincere effort to actually play through the campaign instead as quickly as possible without relying on glitches. Me likey! Also looks like a kinda useful guide to follow for anyone else wanting to do the same thing, here's an example:

I am guessing that was a person who likely took the long way around everything and failed a lot lol I honestly don't know. I think I beat RDR in 2.5 weeks, playing it maybe 3 hours a day so that is like 45ish hours? But that is including some side mission stuff. I guess it depends on who plays. I messed around way too much with GTA V to say what I beat that in. As for the OP, I would guess it to be 30ish hours. Some people can likely beat the game a lot faster than others. It will probably take me 2 or 3 times as long as the average though.
ChrisCr0ss
It will be long enough for me. I am the kind of person to take my time playing so a 20 hour game can easily become a 100 hour game for me. I will do the story, the side missions, and even take casual adventures just exploring places, gather ammo/supplies, things like that.
elmZ
35 to 40 hours. Maybe they will push it to 48 with DLC. I think it will be slightly longer than GTA but not by much. I think I read that someone could beat GTA V in 28 hours.
bluntTR4P
I am hoping the standard speed run will be at least 30 hours. This means for someone like me who plans to take my time and do all the side missions, it would likely be around 60 hours of gameplay.

If they intend on doing to RDR2 what they did with GTA V, it will be a 2-3 year game. They will need to keep people interested.
ChrisCr0ss
You know they will be caking on the DLC. Look at GTA V. I never would have pegged that game to last but it did and it is thanks to the DLC. I am not apposed to it but they better not make it where people who pay for these packages get unfair advantages. Lex
I think it will take about 20 - 30 hours if you just do the story missions and not fool around with anything else. I hope it to be as long as possible, i am the type of person to explore everything and do all quests and side quests etc. So i can see i will easly get around 50 - 80 hours from it hopefully more. I love online gameplay but i do hope they make some effort for the single play campaign and not just online stuff.
