Weapon Familiarity

Is there a better way to track your "weapon familiarity" with certain guns? It's my limited understanding that with time and use you can become more efficient at certain weapons, but I'd like to know how much killing or headshots I need to start getting benefits.

I've finally noticed a light boost in my fire rate for the Lancaster repeater (I think...) which I've been using exclusively in hideouts and some PvP modes. I'd like to get better with my revolvers but I like actually SEEING my progress.

No way that I have found. My buddy will actually write all his information down in a notebook. He loves taking notes. I don't have the patience for that though. They should make some kind of in-game tracker to let us know what we have done with what gun at the very least.
