Still havent tried the "new horses"   mostly bcoz i was thinking (and still do ) that the MFT is the fastest horse in game. True sometimes it can get freaked out on 4 wolves when im taking too long to kill em. Or when very close range to a Croc.

Are the Breton horses really that great?      I have 2 x MFT and dont want/need other horses. Hmm Maybe ill try the Breton just to see what its all about.

For me its all about speed.

If you're all about speed the Breton will likely disappoint. Its a decent horse but after riding it for a while now I'd say its not the super horse some make it out to be. I switched back to my Black Arabian last night as I was just doing some collectibles and it was like driving a supercar after plodding around in a transit van. The Breton is better around animals and gunfire, of course, but it will still get spooked and throw you in a lot of situations.

Yeah just as i thought.    In RDRO we have to cover a lot of ground playing so speed is most important for me yeah.

I had a black Arabian - its the most acceleration and handling in game i think) but changed him to MFT bcoz he was tripping too much in the bushes.

I had the MFT before the Arabian. Loved it at first (replaced my Red Chestnut Arabian) but I find that after the honeymoon period all the horses tend to annoy in one way or another. Think now I've got more cash in the game I'm gonna saddle a few horses up and mix up their use a bit so I don't get so frustrated with any one of them.

Yeah maybe its a good thing to do. Ill buy one more horse and check it out. Have loads of money anyway and no means of spending it anyway so the stable fee will not hurt that much. I just hate beeing ripped off xD

Do it. I have 7 horses. People get hung up on one horse sometimes and don't really know what it out there. It is good to have variety. I have a Black Arabian that serves a purpose . Not my favorite but good to have around. Had 2 MFT and sold both. To me they act like a tweeker on bath salts. Pass. Have a Turk that post update has become a clumsy toddler sadly. Breton , Kladruber and Tiger Striped Bay Mustang are my daily drivers. Temperament is superior to me. I rather have a slower horse that I know will not buck me in a gun fight or around predators. I got in a gun fight the other night and my Breton flanked me the whole time. My MFT would have been in the next county once bullets started flying. Variety is good. Hell, I bought a $120 Shire last night just to have a big horse. Also with the high end saddles, it makes all horses good for the most part. Aside from health of course.

After my experience with switching back to the Arabian last night its a definite plan to use more horses. I just need more Nacogdoches saddles - had the panther saddle on the Arabian and it got annoying keeping running out of stamina. I also realised I didn't miss the lantern I have on the panther saddle. I have 3 ability cards left to max out then I think I'll buy the saddles...

Out of interest - what situations do you use the Kladruber over the Breton? I have both but the Klad was really just makeshift until I could get the Breton - I haven't used the Klad since.

Usually just to have a different top tier horse when the rest of the posse is using a Breton. Lol. Hate jumping on the wrong horse. I do like that it has 100% stamina and health too. So I don't mind using it if I have to but I prefer my Bretons anyday. If money is tight. I get Breton for sure first hands down.

I have 2 Bretons , so I usually just rotate them daily.  I'm not going to lie, it is hard to ride another horse that isn't a Breton. But I will always have a soft spot for my Tiger Striped Bay Mustang. So I do take her out several times a week. She has always been rock solid in EVERY situation I put her in. She even kicked a Grizzly one time. Lol.

Yes James, the Breton is much better IMO I like everything about it.

The trotter might be a little faster but not so much that it would make any real difference, the Breton is no slouch, they are fast too.

Criollo is the fastest with specs, then the trotters and maybe Turks, then I think Breton, BUT to be honest, the Breton to me handles better, feels better and to me it is very important that I dont get bucked off, I play a LOT, and it is multiple times a day I run into cougars, wolves, bears, snakes, etc.. and gun fights? lol by the dozen man, so yeah, I am sick and tired of having my horse bail on me, I have no desire to ride my Trotters at all to be honest since the new horses, I dont know that I will again either, I just dont have a need for a horse that is so skittish.

The money if flowing in this game right now, try a Breton level 20, bonded to level 4, you decide, its a few bucks, but I guarantee you if nothing else you can use it specificaly  for jobs where you KNOW the Trotter will freak, but I think once you ride one you will enjoy it.

I own both Trotters, they were my favorite horse for a long time, I never thought Id like another horse more, but new things keep on coming.

For sure to each his own, for me, Breton, Kladruber, Turkoman, Trotter in that order.

SPEED!?? MY BRETON ROCKS.  With proper saddle and stirrups (NOT the Delgado because I own that too), my steel grey Breton is rated 9 Speed and 6 Acceleration.  Does anybody honestly need more than that? And Gambarro is smarter than the other horses, e.g. when I am dismounted in a furious gunbattle, he does not flee. He takes himself to safety which is never more than 40 or 60 feet away, returns less than 2 seconds after whistling. He doesn't run off into the great unknown. He will whinney at snakes but not rear-up, and pulls his head hard left or right to warn me of a gator nearby. As much as I love my Turkoman (Añejo) with the same stats, there's no comparing In the heat of battle or natural danger. I've already eliminated a couple of horses from my stable and will probably pare it down to just three: Turk, Nokota, and Breton.

I see a lot of ppl talking that MFT is skiddish. My MFT never bucks me in a gunfight, when im hunting gators when he is 5 meters from one he moves a bit further but never, never runs away.

My Black arabian was skiddish. Gun shot and hes gone.

All due respect I think you have the wrong Breton or the wrong tack or both. See my most recent post

If the top Breton and Nacogdoches saddle with the hooded stirrups is wrong then consider me guilty as charged. It may have 9 for speed on paper but when it can’t pull the skin off a rice pudding for acceleration and handles like a freight train it’s not a fast horse. I’m not down on the Breton, I like the horse, but my comment to James was that if he wanted a race car type horse the Breton would likely disappoint.

My overall point was that there’s no stand out best horse for everything which seems to be what people are making out the Breton to be. It’s a good horse but it’s not perfect. For instance, if you’re moseying along or stopped and a panther strikes it will buck you to the ground whereas my Arabian would give me distance to deal with the situation. I also find that the large horses combined with the stupid default 3rd person camera angle make riding along the track as tricky as taxiing a tail-wheel aircraft.

James, when wolves show up say in 4 or more, my Trotter almost alwasy would throw me, a snake on the ground, sometimes, a bear lol definitely getting bucked, usually a cougar too, not if I get a good first shot off, but if not, that Trotter would throw me and run for zee hills, but not on the Breton.

BUT here is the number 1 reason to get a Breton.

It is the only horse that I am aware of that when you use Slow and Steady, you can still gallop fast, every other horse when you engage S&S you come to a stop, and can only walk slowly, but not on the Level 20 Breton, they may change this in the future, but for now, you can use S&S and not slow down at all, that is pretty handy.

I think your speed issue with the Breton is decidedly different than mine and  that of the or my posse members (four different posses not including my own).  When I typed my remarks you may have been a player with a $550 horse at level 0 and a mediocre saddle, thus,  I begin by saying all due respect. You clarified that's not you.  I'm sorry your Breton is glitched-out after paying so much for it and insurance and the stall. Maybe the next DLC will offer a Paso Fino to do your bidding. Good luck out there cowboy.

It’s not “glitched-out”, it works just fine but as I clarified, it’s not outright top speed that’s the problem it’s the handling and acceleration (a bit like the American cars you likened it to I guess). If you’re riding in a posse of all Bretons then maybe you wouldn’t notice but even riding with a posse member with a MFT you end up riding 15 feet behind from a standing start.

its a good horse, maybe even very good, but it’s not perfect and my posts here are just trying to give balance so players reading don’t get the idea the Breton is the horse for everything and save up their cash only to be disappointed it’s not the be-all and end-all people made it out to be.

Absolutely, it is not a perfect horse, it is not the fastest either, these horses have mutliple characteristics, this is why I keep saying, just try one, and give it a good test, to level it up to bonded level 4, and then do a few bounties, some collecting, join a race series event, decide for yourself.

We all have differing opinions, so you really should try it to see what you like or dont like about it.

If you dont have an issue with being thrown very often and that isnt a concern, and you just want all out speed, then yeah a Criollo, or Arabian, or Trotter is going to work best for you.

Everyone is different and to each his own.

I made a video in the weekend exactly with this situation. 4 wolves ganked me near a cave enterance and i was like 5 meters from them when they spawned - they circled me around until i killed them and My MFT didnt buck me whatsoever. Ill upload it today after work to One drive and post for you to see.

I actually know what you r talking about with the breton. I have saved Bounty hunter role for last bcoz i thought its the most fun of all and currently on lvl 15 with it. Now i see that my MFT is not the right one for it. When many enemies it gets scared. runs away and i have to constantly whistle for him to get back to me. Im really looking forward to buy the Bretone but i need lvl 20 role for that....   Seems kinda stupid bcoz would be a great help to have him while exping the damn bounty hunter and not after finishing it.

I also bought a Criollo and will exp him today to have a glimpse.

Yeah I like lvl 20 Bretone.  Definitely not as fast as MFT, Arabian, Criollo, might be even slower than the Turkoman,  but still has great speed considered it looks pudgy compared to others hahaha.

I also had scenario of getting attacked by a pack of 4 or 5 wolves. It didn't buck me off, but I always get my horses to high-tail it while I shoot the trailing wolves.

I'll gladly keep it.

Never tried the Kladrubber, but definitely plan on buying one.

After watching the video i realised that there were 3 wolves not 4 i just missed one and had to shoot him again thinking its the 4th one.

I believe if i took more time dealing with them the horse would bail on me. I wanted to use my shotgun but noticed i was on Varmint rifle so used Bolt action to kill em.

Then again an the next day i had this open world event with a guy attacked by 3 coyotes and when 2 of them started to come to me the horse bucked me lol and they were not even close so yeah ..... i still like it for its speed. Good for chasing and fast traveling. its my fav atm.

I still need some BH lvls to buy the Bretone .
