Red Dead Online Combat Meta

I think we have to admit RDRO will be somewhat Similar to GTAO, which has a very strong and distinct combat Meta. One thing i'm really excited for is seeing play styles and patterns emerge, do yall think it'll be a sniper cluster f*** like GTA or more slow and western-y?|

I also hope we are given the opportunity for no Blip lobbies like GTA 4 had, so you do the progression but occasionally bump into another player. This could also mean players can ambush hot locations, or in turn be counter ambushed. Will horses be a big asset for the online combat? will wagons? will stealth be a possiblity?

So many possibilities, i'd love to hear yall thoughtsss

I'm very curious to see how the combat plays out in Red Dead Online, given the game is set in 1899 I'm assuming it'll be more gunplay based rather than explosive based like GTA Online.

I'm sure Rockstar have put a lot of time and effort into how the combat is gonna work between players, one of the supposed leaks that came out recently stated that you'll only be able to see enemy players on your mini map when they're within a certain radius of you which sounds great to me but unfortunately all of this is yet to be confirmed by Rockstar.

Personally, I'm tired of having to deal with people using Passive Mode to get kills in GTA Online so no matter how good Rockstar make the combat in Red Dead Online if they include Passive Mode I'm gonna have to stay well clear and keep to the singleplayer.

I get where you're coming from with the fist fights. I hope it's not as clumsy as everything in GTAO is. That thing is an absolute disaster of game design, really really poor - I'm hoping R* learns their lessons and doesn't double down on the shit.
One thing I'm really hoping for is varied weapon usage, where using a revolver or knife and lassoo are actually viable options - This would take lot's of delicate balancing, and balancing is certainly one of R*s weaknesses so we will have to see.

I said in another post that it would be good if you can go off grid, and that leaked info (which sounds legit) would confirm that. I really like the sound of having to go searching for people — wandering into a town and seeing that somebody (your enemy, I guess, as we're there to fight, or collect sage of course) is in the nearby bar having a drink or playing Black Jack. You could park your horse, stomp in there and blow them away, like a real arch enemy. What I'm saying is I think this would be a lot more realistic for the time, and will slow the pace down a lot. It's not just a case of sniper fights in the street or getting wasted every 15 seconds by some kid in a Hydra.

I have a feeling they will just be copy/pasting the combat style from GTA V to RDR2. They put so much focus on everything else in this game that I can really see Rockstar just completely skipping over this one. I guess time will tell.

There are takedowns and things in the trailer so I don't think that is the case at all.

even if gun-play is directly lifted from GTA V, the different weapons, terrain and vehicles should be enough to fundamentally change how the combat plays out and the communities attitudes towards it. That's what I find so interesting, while we can guess about what guns will be in the game - how they will effect the game is something way more exciting and unpredictable.

This is a legit part of playing and not a triggered cutscene thing? I thought it was the latter. I will have to rewatch it again.

Okay I'm starting to warm up on the online now a lot more knowing that some fool won't be driving over me constantly in an armored vehicle or gunning me down just for kicks from the sky. Sure sniper rifles and campers will most likely always be an issue but maybe it won't be as toxic...

I'd like it if they also had an outlaws vs the law sort of situation going (sure, with "regular" folk also just going about their day-to-day hunting and fishing and whatnot) to keep things in a constant flux where maybe a town or hideout is maybe always being fought over instead of just giving you some bad rep because you like to shoot random people or because you like to shoot those people that like to shoot random people - let players decide how to handle these folk (public hangings would be awesome!).

If they are going to go all out for this and online combat is going to be this complex without being complex with the buttons, I will be blown away. I was basically just hoping for anything better than GTA V. Like a slight improvement would have been fine but to have way beyond that... Gladly accept.

Based on rumors and what we have already been told by IGN, I think it will be a few steps above GTA V, not just slightly better. I am sure I will be happy.
