is a player assassination target alerted?

I'm finding The Boy gives some interesting missions. One of them is to kill another player. I took this on thinking it would only involve finding the player and doing the deed as the target would be taken by surprise.

In the event, the player was waiting for me and I was the one to get knocked off.

Does the assassination target get advised that he is the target when the mission is assigned? I suppose that I would have appeared as a red dot on his minimap.

As Kean said - Yes they are alerted.

What i would like to point out is that i dont like how the mechanics of that mission work:

When you are the hunter You need to kill the player once in given time to finish and complete mission.

When you are the hunted You have to protect urself for the whole time bcoz when you kill the attacker he gets respawned very close to you and it's very likely he will get you in some point.

In my view it should be the same in both cases. One kill-=>end mission.

I agree..      But the assassination missions do have a short timer, so you can run down the clock very easily.      Id rather there be NO timer and only one life for everyone involved till its over.

Another problem with the assassination missions is the that PAYOUTs are time based...   So unless you kill the player at the last few seconds it pays out nothing.  Meanwhile alls the target has to do is run away till the timer ends and they get a nice payout.

All the time based payouts in this game need to go anyways.

Yes, I was the target of one last night - wonder if it was you???  Was the first time I have been targeted, took me by surprise.  I got a prompt on the screen and the a large red icon showing me where the attacking player was.  I was out gathering wild feverdew for the daily challenge.  Fortunately had a fast horse, and also a Rolling Block with me (as my main fighting guns were back at Camp.  I checked and the attacker was level 10, I'm level 198 so didn't seem very fair on the attacker.  I didn't have much close range artillery with me and was backed up to a canyon, I tried to take out the attacker with the Rolling Block.  Unfortunately I missed, pesky moving targets, and downed his horse which I felt bad about.  I was awarded $14-odd and 100+ xp.  In all my time playing it was the first time I have had that, wonder whether the attacker picked me from a list or just was awarded a random player target?

I like HuDawg's one life idea.

Tonight I took the mission again. I wasn't given a choice of target and after one was assigned I noticed that he and I were very close to level 100. This time when I reached the target, he was simply standing there. I circled around nearby on my horse making myself obvious to see if I could get a reaction but none came. He never made any move against me. It's much more fun if there is a contest.

Got my first assassination notice yesterday, I just outran him. I was surprised too. Perhaps this last update put these into play. I can not stand that little bastard weasel "The Boy" anyway. Now I know where it spawned from. 🤠

These missions have been in the game for a long time.
