Is Josiah Trelawny the Strange Man?

What do you think? There are obvious differences between the two, but they are similar in many ways as well. Just some fun speculation to occupy the time until the next bit of news on RDR2.  I personally do not think these two are the same, as their specific outfits differ slightly.

It could very well be. The Strange Man did seem to indicate that he had had some form of previous encounter with John.

LegacyKilla pointed out that the gang eventually recruits people at different times, R* confirmed this, so maybe he got recruited at the time John left the gang? And the 'strange' got told about John and someone share the stories and different actions that John made. Which is why he knows John but John doesn't recall the mysterious figure.

I don't think it is the same dude. I could be wrong but a lot of dudes dressed like that back then depending on their line of work.

I hope their outfits differ. Who wears the same outfit that far apart? He probably gained some weight from all the buffalo he ate.

Yeah and I would imagine we have a nice amount of new characters being added. There is no reason to bring back all the old characters.

The  Stranger  in  both  games  is  a  form  of  TBI.    In  the  first game,   I  believe  Marsden  was  badly  hurt  in the 1906  fire  mentioned  the  Newspaper  that  supposedly  offed  the  Van  der  Linde  game.  Bonnie  got  him  to  the  doctor at  Thieve's  landing.  In 1906,  X-rays  were  limited  to  places  like Blackwater.  John  suffered  minor  neurological  damage  to  the  memory  center  of  his  brain.  The  Stranger is  therefore  a  hallucination   John  periodically  encounters,    I  am  willing  to  accept  that  Stranger  in  RDR  is  supernatural,  also.

The second time we meet him is when we save Sean from Blackwater alongside Javier. While walking he says "I keep hearing about this woman, Heide McCort. Some young mother they say, Dutch killed on the boat" available at: https://youtu.be/egMcSVAZjQY?t=542

When we meet him in RDR, one of the firsts things he asks John is " Do you remember Heide McCort's face?" available at: https://youtu.be/y9L5Jnq5MYs?t=30

 

Decide for yourselves, but I don't think it's there for no reason.

It is DEFINITELY him, for the reasons mentioned above by ZZahariev, plus some other dialogue that i can't recall at the moment but reflected his dialogue in the original RDR, despite what Mr Lewis Neptune Gunner has dreamed up in his crackpot mind. Nice try, though.

Another thing is the strange man in rdr1 he wasn't real when John Marston shot at him he kept walking. In the forums it says Trelawny is a conjurer so I think the strange man in rd1 is Trelawnys conjuring.
