I really wasn't trying to offend I promise. Now that I re-read your post, mine jumps to conclusions that weren't present, and makes me look like a turd. My apologies. I know there are some salty people around here and I'm definitely not one of them. Sometimes I get wrapped up in the whole mess of what's broken mechanics and what's made up. You clearly were just reaching out for advice. My bad.3 points

Pacing in this game is a sensitive and divisive topic. Some folks find the game irreparably slow, seemingly preferring the reckless and wild abandon of GTA or FPS games. Others, like myself, are fully immersed in what R* and Take Two have done here. The pacing is glorious; and what happened to me last night was a perfect example of how this game manages to continually surprise, delight, and keep me on the edge of sleep deprivation despite all efforts to put the controller down at a reasonable hour. Riding down out of the mountains last night after finishing up the third leg of I was heading south out of the snow covered peaks towards Lake Isabella, girding myself for the long, arduous (and somewhat boring) ride back to Valentine, when heavy fog rolled in (taking a moment aside here to acknowledge the amazing job done with the randomized weather patterns in this game--absolutely phenomenal). I was trotting along with a newer horse that I was leveling up to sell off to the farrier, when a large, fleeting shadow flickered off to my left. Still needing perfect elk pelts and having seen a few wandering about in the area, I paused momentarily to draw my rifle when I saw her, the elusive Having not actively sought her out before, I was stunned. Like a ghost in the mist, she appeared and dashed off into the vapor--I quickly dismounted and pursued on foot (again, the tooltips here did an excellent job guiding me through the process). Continually, my exuberance got the best of me and I plunged ahead in the deep snow, regardless of the potential of scaring her off yet again. Finally, after several missteps and repeated spooks, I settled into a slow rhythm and made my way ever so closer to her. And then I mounted. A minor gripe is that the experience of taming the horse is poorly explained in the tooltips, and should have been better worded for clarity. Having not had to previously tame a horse in the game, the experience was incredibly frustrating and defeating as she bucked me off and tore into the trees with wild abandon (if there's one criticism about the experience, it's that they probably should have had this be a side job or quest somewhat early in the game--to break horses for the farrier in Valentine for money). Down, but not defeated, I pursued her. Two more times I got close enough to mount before she took off as I prepared to try and mount again. I was thirty minutes in--over a day had passed in-game tracking this elusive creature by foot, being taunted and teased the whole way, but I would not be dissuaded. I was in it to win it, no matter how long it took. Finally, I had a revelation--instead of waiting for the tooltip to tell me when to attempt a mount, I was going to just "go for it". I approached slowly and cautiously (yet again, for what seemed like the tenth or eleventh time), and as I got within reach, as she reared up and prepared to take off, I leaped and was met with success! Throwing caution to the wind I trusted my gut and rode out the maelstrom as she fought to be free of me--for what seemed to be an eternity, I was locked in a contest of wills; me, or this wild, untamed horse. And in a flash, it was over. She settled into an amicable trot as we continued to bond back down the mountain to where I had left my other horse cold, tired, and alone for two days (I felt a little guilty about that part of it, because now that horse was "old and busted"--unlikely to be ridden again, and my recen acquisition was "the new hotness") . Forty-five minutes of effort culminated in the capture of this beautiful, elusive creature. It was exhilarating. A purely random encounter that I was unprepared for turned into the most engaging and rewarding experience I've had in the game after almost three weeks of playing on a daily basis. An experience that was more fulfilling than ENTIRE GAMES by other studios and publishers--curiously enough, an event devoid of violence or mayhem (in a game stuffed full of it), which in and of itself is a testament to the design of the game and the level of thought and detail that underpin the many and varied systems on display. Oh, and as an added bonus, on my way back to Valentine, I also encountered As if the day couldn't get any better. Once I returned to Valentine, I immediately rode to the stables to sell my "old and busted" horse, and rechristen my newest acquisition "Ghost". After all, I've always wanted to be a "Ghost Rider". TL: DR: Epilogue to the story. After handling the horse issue, I rode to the Trapper to sell off the Legendary Hide I had acquired on my journey. As I closed in, the Stranger Mission popped up on my radar. I had the benefit of having some foliage between us, so I approached them from behind. When I got close enough, i just listened to them for a bit. What happened next was nothing short of high comedy as I also remembered to capture the video of this, so once I have the time later, I'll trim it down and upload it, because it was damn hilarious! Truth just spoke the truth. sad but true. at least we know we are annoying them. you should send back a message that says, thank you for responding. I just want to let you know that there are several thousands of us that are on the verge of mass posting these issues across all social media and YouTube if we don’t get an actual public announcement that you are actually working on a fix. There are several communities with hundreds of thousands of views and we are on the verge of making this go viral. (Send him links to here and every other forum or FB group you can!) please make an official announcement, or else I fear the backlash from Sony customers is going to be massive. (they probably won’t care, but worth a shot!)2 points

There's several places to find beavers, but the one that worked best for me was just west of Van Horn trading post. Lots of beaver on both sides of the river, but finding a perfect 3 star pelt can take some time. There's knawed on trees, and a dam with lodge. Walk up and down the river edge, and in the time it takes you to do so they will respawn in one of the three or four spots in the areal I used the varmint rifle.2 points

If you're in the continental US, I'll send you some after I go Bambi Blasting the Monday after Thanksgiving. Some of us have impeccable aim IRL. Of course, an red dot scope on a picatinny rail with a bolt action Mossberg (with a rifled barrel) tend to make it easier than taking a photo, but still...2 points

You did great! I'd say this all depends on the child more than anything. Some kids are ready for stuff like this at an early age, some might not handle it as well. I'd definitely say no to online mode though. I know how horrible some people can be there and don't think any 10 year old should be exposed to that. Plus you never know who else is in that server. Could be a bunch of other kids, could be adults yelling profanities, could be some creepy dude that can't tell the difference between a kid's voice and a woman's (I've witnessed that).2 points

Riding through heavily forested areas is actually easy. Just keep tapping the run button but don't touch the joystick. Your horse will automatically navigate through the trees.2 points

Once finding out the carrying capacity of the "Legend of the East" satchel I put everything else on hold. That's a game changer. I only get about one and a half to two hours a night to play so I figured getting that three star panther pelt was going to be a grind. Much to my surprise, as I rode south of the burned out church, one of those bastards popped right up on me. I pulled out the bolt-action, activated dead-eye, and put one in his head just to avoid getting mauled. It was three star! Bittersweet because I was anticipating a drawn out hunt but I'll take it. Harvesting the cougar more than made up for it though as I spent two IRL evenings trying for that turd. I kept seeing old withered one star cats. We got there though. This is one of the most satisfying activities in the game for me so far.2 points

Growing up around horses we've always named them on their color or personality. one of my favorite horses was a big brown super gentle horse. He was named Brownie. Another one was Badger, he'd turn on you in an instant for no reason, kinda like when a badger leaves it's den then walks away a few steps and then charges you. My cousin had an Appaloosa named Spot. I thought that was pretty obvious and lame, he also had a dog named Spot, he wasn't the imaginative type. Uncle had a horse named Red, matched his temper and demeanor, he was great at cutting cattle though. Friend in high school way back when had one called Bolt, originally because he was super fast as a colt, but the name stuck as when you tried to ride him he would bolt. if you weren't ready for that you were spitting dirt lol. I name my horses that way in the game, well mostly. My lost Arabian I called Snow, cause yeah he was white The DLC horse i also lost to the horse glitch was called Shadow, The jet black Standardbred I'm riding now is Death. After losing the legendary Arabian and going on the killing spree in Valentine i went hunting up north of Strawberry to cool off and get the perfect elk skin. I caught him up there and the name seemed fitting since i was killing everyone at the time lol. Also picked up a grey/black something or other sometime along the way, big work horse looking thing, i haven't ridden it enough to remember what it is. She's called Darkness as her legs are grey and body/back goes to black. kinda like the dark coming in.2 points

awesome post. Now you can see why i was so furious when the horse glitch took that horse from me I spent my 4 hours of play time last night hunting for perfect skins for the satchels and camp upgrades. I loved every minute of it. even the 30 minutes when i went to Valentine for ammo and decided to try the Sharpshooter challenge i've been working on. I failed miserably but it was still fun. That's probably one of my favorite things about this game. I fail a few times at what i'm doing but i've never gotten frustrated enough to turn it off or throw things. Even failing is fun lol2 points

Thanks. I'm a crusty old fart who doesn't have the time or skill that these young 14-year old whippersnappers hooped up on Adderall and Redbull do to devote to "git gud". I've also come to appreciate craftsmanship as I age: 16-uear aged single malt scotch, charcuterie based pizza, RDR2... When a person or group of people throw their passion fully into a project, it often creates something beautiful that should be cherished and recognized. Anyone could have taken GTA and just reskinned it with cowboys and horses, and nobody would have batted an eye. Instead, we have been given the culmination of a decade's worth of tireless devotion to creating a unique experience that couldn't be a bigger departure from GTA if they had tried. And it is absolutely stunning. There's nothing wrong with GTA or the people who prefer the experience it offers. But this? This is an achievement in storytelling and world building that I haven't experienced in gaming in at least a decade. I was never over excited for this game. It was a simple curiosity that led me to preorder; and the promise that the single player story would be focus at launch. GTA was never my cup of tea, but I can appreciate it for what it is. RDR2 isn't the best game I've ever played (it may be soon, but I can't assess half a game and need to play online to make a fully formed opinion), but it's eclipsed everything else from this current console generation. It may not have been a selling point for me, bit I can't ignore how the pace allows me to just take EVERYTHING in. And the attention to detail can't be overlooked. I've expounded upon this at length previously, but this game has literally left NOTHING to chance; each and every aesthetic choice feels deliberately calculated, and thus far has created a unique experience (for me at least) that is unlikely to be matched by any game for the foreseeable future. I am simply awestruck by this game. Were I capable of cying, it would have reduced me to tears multiple times already in it's splendor and majesty.2 points

I finally spent some time the other day looking through all the settings in game and found one that (for me anyways) made controlling the horse easier. I forget if it's in the controls menu or camera menu, but theres an option that let's you choose between controlling the horse from your camera's POV and controlling from the horses POV. I switched to the horse POV because you don't have to worry about changing which direction you push the thumbstick when moving your camera around. (I.E. with the horse's POV, when looking around for animal tracks or whatever, I just keep pushing forward if I want my horse to keep moving forward, rather than having to move the stick around to counter the camera) Took a little bit to get used to since I did the Camera POV for a couple weeks, but I like it more. It may not be for everybody though.1 point

I wanna tell you the truth. I bought the game twice, one for me (im 28) and one for my 12 year old sister. She loves Gta and played it for about 2 years now. She doesnt care much about the brutal things. She is more interested on the horse and the things around. No children of the world will be a "killer" because of a game like this and they can make a distinction rlly well between a game and rl. Sry for my Bad english, i did my best edit: i also played games like doom or other shooter / horror games when i was 10 and i think i got not so much damage from it1 point

Fact^ Though My Horse isn't all that bright, he still runs head first into trees sometimes... Must be a side effect from having his head spontaneously combust that one time...1 point

Temporal Antialiasing would be not shown in Images or Fotomode. TAA. It is the same in some PC Games. That is the Effect of the Postprocessing Antialiasing. I´m wondering how could anyone on the ps4 pro use the upcoming battle royal mode in 4k resolution mode So i will now discuss this problem more in a german forum and I receive a lot of answers, but so many trolls in this forum:( I hope iwill receive an answer from the editorial team of game pro magazine. Sorry my grammar is out of order at the moment. I write this on german. Das temporale Antialiasing wird nicht in Screenshots angezeit, es ist das gleiche bei einigen PC Spielen zum Beispiel: F1 2017 und F1 20181 point

Anyone who doubts the overly aggressive amount of blur can see for themselves like this: -note image quality while in game -press the share button -note that when the share button is pressed, the detail in the foreground and background increases. This is especially noticeable during cutscenes. im starting to think the ridiculous amount of blur was an artistic decision. Why otherwise blur a sharp looking game?1 point

agreed. My friends and I had a blast playing GTA5 when it came out for hte Xbox One. My son and their son also played wiht us online. It's all on the parents to educate and make sure their children know games and movies apart from reality. Take a look at the kid that wanted to play GTA5 for real, stole the car and and wrecked 2 others? that's a parental failure.1 point

Best to almost ignore the internet entirely when you're trying to stay away from spoilers. The internet is just too dangerous when it comes to spoilers, which is why I pretty much ignored going online until I was finished with the game.1 point

No suprise there, it's that way whenever a new game comes out. It's why i never look at youtube for game tips or hints until i'm on my 2nd play through finding out what i've missed. Forums like this or the online guides/tips pages are what i look at the first time playing through.1 point

I used the round table knights names for my horses. Because you know, I'm not original or creative. Got a full stable with: Guinevere, Galahad, Lancelot and Tristan... Lancelot was going to be named "Austin Powers" originally, because goldmember (the horse have gold coat) but I got profanity on the name and I don't know why, btw anyone knows why would toggle the profanity? (I'm not a native english speaker, I don't see anything wrong with Austin Powers)1 point

Same as @Truth The only carcasses i keep are for the few upgrades at camp. However, if i go to turn in stuff to Pearson and he says food is running low then i will go out and bag 3 or 4 animals and bring back the whole thing unskinned since you can't just gut the animal and bring it back like you really would if you're just going for the meat. Pearson can deal with the guts since he's whining about food and too lazy to help hunt. Plus you can carry numerous hides, except for the larger animals, and only 1 carcass at a time.1 point
-
I don't bother with carcasses unless I need it for an upgrade (or it's a legendary animal). It's just not worth the hassle in my opinion. I just shoot and skin everything I see, stacking as many pelts as I can collect onto my horse. With that satchel upgrade, you'll have a crap load of meat in no time that will easily make up the difference.1 point

Well I finally got, late into the night, I did like ya'll suggested and saved it, then went to the spot. The darn thing killed me 5 times, one of which I was aiming at it to shoot it and the game comes up and asks me if I'd like to auto save, I get all flustered and say no, then when the game unpauses the panther is on my biting me to death. I was cussing it pretty good. Finally got and then took the pelt to camp. Went Northwest and got the cougar on the first try. Also picked up a perfect bear pelt to complete all the crafted Chaps at the trapper. On to trapping, killing, and looting. Still on chapter 3 but this satchel will definitely help now that I can hold 99 items.1 point

Glad you sorted it out and I could help. Enjoy the challenge of completing all the challenges - some are very annoying. Wait until you get a bit higher in the Herbalist challenges. A little tip, often when it says "herbs" in the challenge it actually means "plant" - so always check by picking random things.1 point

That sucks, big time! The only advice I can offer is that the way I got the perfect panther in both of my playthroughs was to go to the very bottom of that road to the west of Shady Belle, where it meets the other road in a T-junction. Save the game now. Place 3/4 predator baits (or more if you have them) a little way up the vertical road. hen run behind the rocks to the south of the junction. I've never had to wait more than 1 min for a panther to arrive. Shoot it and skin it and you'll find out if it's 3 stars. If not, reload the save and try again.1 point

So when you go to cook it should show you Plain Gam, Plain Beef, Plain Venison etc, then you click on that and have the option to scroll right to get to other recipes. Do you just not have that option? Or are they greyed out saying you don't have ingredients?1 point

That's a decision the parent has to make. I remember being that age and playing San Andreas with hookers, blowing peoples heads off, stabbing people, robbing, and it was fun. I clearly never grew up to be a serial killer after my childhood obviously, but Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't for the faint of heart for younger children. If you're worried about the graphical content for the child, simply don't let them play. It's a game about the wild west, and it's pretty realistic... BLOOD WILL BE SHED! I've learned children are really stubborn. If you tell them not to do something or play something or watch something, it's in their nature to crave and spark enormous interest in doing that specific thing. If the kid really wants to play, and you won't let him/her play, they will most likely find a way to play anyways at a friends house. Kids these days! 🤷♀️1 point

You’re right. I always manually save after I finish the robbery but I should save beforehand, too. That’s good. Luckily I got a Gray Rose Arabian from the SD method, so that’ll do until I get another Fox Trotter. Thanks again. This goes to you too, @BropolloCreed791 point

The AI is painfully loose, as some one else stated it's not uncommon for the computer to call you down with air regardless of board texture, especially if they have high cards. The AI will also never fold any pair even if it's bottom pair. Their preflop opening ranges are incredibly wide, however 3betting ranges seem to be weighted toward mainly high pocket pairs and A6+. There also seems to be a secondary AI which is less common which is more loose aggressive, this AI tends to raise you alot and bluff with a high frequency, I've seen this AI mix in some suited connectors into their 3bet range like 68s and 79s. Because of these considerations the optimal strategy for beating red dead 2's poker is to play a tight range preflop, and bet really large with the top end of our range. Post flop just play a strategy of betting large when you make strong pairs, draws or better and check the rest of the time. Bluffing is not recommended unless the pot is heads up and two streets have been checked through, or the board was draw heavy and the river bricks (draw is not made). Or to simplify; play strong opening hands, wait till you hit, then bet large. The AI also has a hard time discerning between bet sizes, 3xbb or 7xbb raises seem to not affect whether or not they will call. So say you get dealt AA, raise 7 or 8x the big blind as opposed to the standard 3xbb.1 point

Spent all weekend hunting for this thing... Took FOREVER! Spent like 6 hours hunting that mother****ing panther, but I finally got that son of a bitch! I spent more time hunting for this satchel than playing the story missions. I'm still in chapter 2, but I think this satchel will prove to be worth having as I progress.
