  1. I honestly have had very few problems since the update. The few I have run into had mostly been legitimately trying to steal my stuff, which I can actually live with. I had one guy shoot me because, as he said, he’s tired of being shot for no reason... it was just an excuse to justify being an ass as far as I could see (and I told him as much which threw him into a temper tantrum). One other guy shot me and then ran to a race... he was low enough level to have barely cleared the story mission, so I can give that one a pass. But two minor encounters over a couple weeks compared to more than that in an hour I’d say something is working.

  2. Hey guys. Just wanted to know who seen the new "Deadwood" movie that just came out yesterday on HBO. I'm probably going to watch it in a little bit, I heard it's pretty good.

  5. I only started playing online a few weeks ago after the big “out of beta” patch a few weeks ago, so I never experienced griefers or a to of the other problems I read about. One time in my first few hours I was hitching my horse outside a general store and someone shot me in the head for no reason. I pressed charges for whatever that’s worth, but since then it’s never really happened to me. I started playing in defensive mode for doing general stuff, but that seemed to make things pretty lonely. I hardly even saw human players anymore. It felt like I was playing solo. So now I play in offensive mode 95% of the time and to be honest it doesn’t seem much different, still pretty lonely. I would welcome encountering some ruthless killers more often, as long as there’s some fairness in it. What I’d like to see is if there’s a ruthless killer (aka griefer) in your vicinity, you should see a red dot to be alert for it (like when there’s a bear or wolf nearby, your heart starts to pump a little and you get ready). Rather than a bear’s growl, the NPCs should alert you by saying things like, that’s him/her, watch out, be careful, maybe have a deputy appear so the moment the griefer tries to take a cheap shot, the deputy or an NPC would start draw first and shoot (everyone was armed back then). It would be no fun for griefers if they take a bullet in the head every time before they even have a chance to take a cheap shot on a defenseless, unsuspecting player. There would be no point in in it. But it should be tied to honor somehow. For example, a full-blown dishonorable would take lead before from a deputy or NPC before they even raise their gun. At the same time, it’s understandable that some people want to play in griefer-style way. For them, as long as they have some level of honor, their first or first few grief-shots should be forced misses so the target knows he/she is being targeted, where the gunfire is coming from and what kind, and have a chance to get armed and defend. Maybe an honorable player would have a few missed shots missed shots while a more dishonorable player might get one. So a total a-hole griefer would just get shot by an NPC before even having a chance to kill a defenseless, unsuspecting, honorable player and there’d be no point in it, the griefer would just get killed immediately, looted, and then deal with a significant bounty for cold-blooded attempted murder. For less dishonorable players who just want to kill you for some reason, they’d have to deal with NPC fire and a prepared target who very well might be far more dangerous than the spineless griefer. Also, players should have the option to play as deputies there to defend the peace that you could join as sort of a mission or type of posse. Why can’t you play as a lawman or woman? Instead of a bunch incompetent NPC lawmen, griefers would have to deal with human adversaries rather than a bunch of incompetent NPC who say “don’t let him get away” and run stupidly into certain death. I think a lot of players would like to play as deputies and it would make towns a lot more dangerous places where you’d have to think twice about your actions. Maybe even have a high-level human sheriff who you definitely don’t want to f- with. Then, like others have said, there should be a serious bounty system. You could go into a sheriff station and look at the bounties and pick one that suits you. If you’re a single low-level player, you probably don’t want to grab a poster for the most deadly person or gang out there. You’d chose someone closer to your level and go out hunting them for the reward. For the most deadly gangs with the biggest prices on their heads, the most deadly possies out there would hunt them down for the bigger reward/xp. Not as formal missions, but free roam where you grab a poster and would get tips as to where they were last seen. Go chase them down and have a real challenge between the hunted and the hunters, not go retrieve a wagon or play some defend the castle competition or even have a random feud with another posse just so you have something to do. i know there’d have to be a bunch of balance and similar issues, but they could be worked out by the smart people at Rockstar. I just think people should have the options to be free roam ruthless killers, deputies, bounty hunters, etc., but rather than make it a simple issue of offensive/defensive mode. If you don’t want to be griefed, you probably won’t because the consequences would not be worth it. And if somebody does want to defenselessly kill you for no reason, you just res pawn and the other online players will have a hell of a good time making you pay for it, whether was deputies or bounty hunters. And maybe as the victim, you’d have the option of joining the bounty hunt even if it’s with a group of expert hunters tracking down the deadliest gangs. It just seems to me something like this would be good for everybody. Just have NPCs eliminate the total a-hole griefers before they have a chance to act, and those who want to be ruthless killers should be given the opportunity but knowing there are a lot of ruthless deputies and bounty hunters who will enjoy making you pay for it. It just based to be balanced so the lawmen and bounty hunters don’t become the griefers i.e., you bump into somebody with your horse and a posse of 150 level players don’t start hunting you. Anyway, just some thoughts. Also same with other things in free roam. Why can’t you play as a guard for a stagecoach or train while other players are robbers who want to hold you up. Not these formal structured missions where it’s basically impossible to fail, but something more like, go ahead and try to rob this stage coach, we’d love it. Instead of a posse racing from stranger mission to stranger mission, have human posses that specialize in protecting or robbing rather than stupid NPC guards. Let human guards and human robbers go up against each other and have some real challenging action. The tedious stranger missions and defend the castle or shoot the birds competitions seem to me like they’d get boring and pointless pretty fast, though this is off-topic I think so sorry.

  6. I’m with @HuDawgon this one... resetting to rank one and loss of everything is way to harsh a punishment for a random killing and very well could be used against someone (or all to easily accidentally triggered when you push a wrong button and shoot/stab/choke someone instead of wave... maybe I’m clumsy, but I still do this time to time). however, an accumulating bounty, which could get quite high, payable out of pocket even if you have to go into the negative once a player catches you. Or perhaps so many real life days stuck in the prison (one day for every $100 you can’t pay perhaps... and only counting when your actively online). actually, the prison thing could be fun as well, if done right. Maybe some missions or activities that can only be accessed while serving an active sentence.

  7. I play the game on both consoles and the "Griefing" is definitely equal on both PS4 and the Xbox One.

  9. Kind of off topic but I'll add to this anyway. Gun customizations are horribly overpriced I spent 30 Gold bars on one LeMat changing all areas to Gold (which was 5 bars for each area between Cylinder, Barrel, Frame, Trigger, Hammer, etc...) and adding black engraving.

  10. .....and once again, no one ever suggested Defensive mode would stop griefing completely. Just because someone can, it doesn't prove the whole concept of the feature falls apart and is useless. I also see no escalation of griefing as you predicted nor did I see a trend after the proximity blips were introduced when we all had this discussion before. Quite the opposite in fact. Rockstar never sold the feature as a passive mode and anyone who uses it in such is only setting themselves up for failure. For people like @Netnow66 looking for a truly passive/protected experience, he's not going to be completely satisfied with this direction. However, for those of us just looking for ways to mitigate the unprovoked / indiscriminate killing, it seems a lot of us are finding the new features helping in that respect to some degree or another. ......even Netnow. Personally, I have yet to be griefed since the new defensive option was implemented even when I purposely let my guard down a few times just to see what would happen. There have been a couple times I thought I/we might be attacked only to have a an relatively quick and uneventful experience. Sorry to say but it's not the same as it's always been in my experience and those of others who have shared theirs. You keep talking about those "bottom feeders" as if they make no difference. Well, they do IMO/IME because if those are in fact the only ones being affected as you say, it seems they must have been the majority of the problem. I have to disagree. It's not semantics as "passive" usually denotes an option where the player is immune to attack. Defensive is nothing like that. It provides some protections and options in the event you are attacked/killed, but is not a passive mode. You still need to take precautions and adjust your playstyle and even then, there is still the possibility of being attacked and killed.

  11. Well, I disagree, it is NOT the same as it always has been, not even close. Usually prior to the update, anytime I ran into or passed another person, they generally took a shot at me, if I went to town to the butcher it was a challenge, now I can park my horse, walk down main st Valentine and do my business and not have any problems at all, so I dont consider that the same at all. I know about defensive mode, I call it passive mode, but ok whatever, semantics. It is hard for a new player with only a carbine to shoot you when they cant lock on, and once they shoot at you can lock on to them, not to mention they are massively outgunned. It just doesnt happen anymore. There are some new A holes that try to get close to you, but they cant lasso, or much else, so to me, the game is free of all the BS that made it unplayable, the occasional person shooting at me or my horse or stealing an item off my horse or whatever will pay for it, and there isnt much they can do about it. not to mention consequences, if your level 7 and have to pay for shooting people. Anyway the game is very diferent than it was 8 weeks ago. and I am glad.

  12. I was expecting the gun upgrades to be a little cheaper. I just wanted blackened steel guns to match my outfit because I'm wearing all black, so I used up pretty much all 40 gold bars I had, and for the convenience of getting all of my guns black, I bought the $5 25 gold pack sale that they had I think it was, and that was immediately gone right after I finished up my rolling block rifle.

  14. Speaking of gold bars, customizing your weapons is so expensive!!!! I have a full black outfit, but I didn't want the guns to have a wood finish, so I wanted blackened steel guns, and oh my goodness to change the entire gun is like 8-10 gold bars alone and I had a lot of weapons to customize.

  15. Me too. I find RDR2 very relaxing. After a long day, I enjoy leisurely trotting around on my horse deciding what to do, some shootouts etc here and there, hunting, even fishing. The frantic nonstop action button mashing games, on the other hand, are way too much for me. I bought a a PS4 on impulse more than a year and a half ago and RDR2 is the first game I ever played for more than 5 minutes. Until reading the glowing reviews in non-gaming publications like the NYT, Atlantic, etc., it just sat it my closet collecting dust with a handful of shrink wrapped games. Even then I didn't take the plunge with RDR2 until earlier this month.

  20. RDR2 seems to know what you're hunting, and then shows you everything except the species you want. So, before you start looking, just tell your console that you're looking for Western Ravens. That should do the trick.

  21. That's when I stopped as well. It started feeling like a never ending battle. While my MBs, CPUs, sound cards, memory, HDDs, etc. were usually good to go for a while, it was the video cards I was replacing more often. It got to the point where I had a hard time justifying the upgrades. Just wasn't worth it. .....and as time went on the new cards required new, more powerful power supplies and new MBs with the appropriate interface. Enough was enough so I bought the PS3 when they came out and been a PS player ever since.
