  1. There many many reasons why many people play showing offline. The least of which is that they're griefers. Also, I personally know quite a few players over 170 and none of them are cheaters and would be extremely offended if called that. You do know that there was no level reset when the game went live right? Being over 170 is actually very common in RDO. So basically, ummm sorry, but no.

  2. Personally I would kill their horse. Best $4 you can spend.

  3. "Newton's third law is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." So for the rider to be blow off the horse, the shooter would also have to be blown backward. I think this is pertinent to the argument: As a horse rider, I can confirm that short of a tree branch or other solid object (lance) physically blocking you while the horse continues on, it is the horse's momentum and the rider's balance that causes them to fall. If you got shot, it would be the instantly incapacitating pain/shock (or death) that would cause the rider to loose their balance and ability to stay on the horse. Even sitting still on a standing horse you don't sit it like a chair, your entire body is micro-adjusting for the horse's natural resting movements constantly. Any actual movement requires constant and instant adjustment of balance on the rider's part. Take away their ability to react and match to the horse under them and they will fall.

  4. Just to be picky... if the 7.62 round missed Johnny Taliban completely, but he got so scared he keeled over from a heart attack, he’d likely fall off the back of the galloping horse as well LOL... it’s the physics of the galloping horse more than the bullet... Sorry, I’m just kind of teasing now.

  5. Load your horse up with a bunch of animals and ride around like bait. That seems to bring out the trolls...lol. But you're right. It is fun. Sometimes the highlight of the night.

  6. Cascadian Hobo is a middle-aged man with too much time on his hands who enjoys Saint Denis by moonlight, long walks on the Blackwater beaches and that gurgling sound when the arrow hits home on a headshot followed by the whoosh of equine flatulence that wafts over the newly minted corpse as he and his horse take the lead in a Target Race. Cascadian left a respectable Pacific Northwest home at a respectable age to seek fame in The East. It proved too fickle a food, and his coincidental lack of enthusiasm towards the pursuit of fortune eventually left him jaded, forlorn and headed west in a boxcar. Not without his resources, his wide range of interests has given him significant skills, experience and insight which he he is maybe too willing to share with fellow travelers. Address mail to Cascadian Hobo c/o XBox general delivery or possibly watch for hobosign appearing from u/cascadianhobo at r/reddeadonline. (Seriously, looking for other adults to chat with, dork out over game mechanics, strategy, theorycrafting, min-maxing and otherwise work together in order to save ourselves some grief and remain competitive in PvP despite our advancing years and failing faculties.)

  7. Yes! My Posse is committed to griefer extermination. Yesterday, some misguided cowboy killed one of us and it was on. He or she was shot, again and again and again, right out of the server. The four or five times I took him out, I was scoring 40 to 45 points for each kill: kill + special ammo + headshot + eyes wide shut + last chance (single sawed off) or distance. You could rightfully call it Bloodsport. But I'm calling it productive and fun. I might even start trying to attract the scum-drums 📢 "Come 'n git it!" 🧨 @N7Creed

  9. @Miltonastic We are saving your butt from the Griefers. We are innocent players. The only time we kill without provocation is the occasional NPC. If you raise a gun and aim or shoot? We are either going to send you to "Say hello to Jesus" or shoot you right off the map into another playground to grief other players.

  10. In the examples given in this thread, that's exactly what they are doing but also reciprocating the attackers action. Just because some people choose dish it back out to griefers doesn't mean they are going to go hunt down innocent players.

  12. I pretty much agree.. Most of my encounters with players tend to be friendly. But its the hostile players that players end up remembering. Way I see it, theres different kinds of hostile players. The bottom feed low levels that are just messing around. And the high level hostile players that know every trick in the book. And then theres ones in posses. IMO. Slippery Bastard is golden. Last night.. Had a posse of players target my friend for no reason in Tumble Weed. I just came in full speed on my horse with slippery bastard, jumped off and started lacing all of them with explosive ammo. That battle must have went on for 40 mins. They only killed me twice. Watched them waste all their explosive ammo and arrows. They started sending me messages complaining about me abusing tonics and slippery bastard. So I told them.. 'Ok, I won't use tonics and slippery bastard, come at me'. … But I lied, and turned it back on, and shot the fool in the face who sent me the message. Oooooh the messages I got for that one.. Where just so salty and yummy. Meanwhile my friend who got shot in the back and started thise whole thing was busy fishing near black water.. And says "You still fighting those guys..lol"? Almost forgot how the whole thing started..

  13. I think it depends on the breed. Horses like the Tennessee Walker bond very quickly but higher calibre horses take longer. My Red Chestnut Arabian seemed to take forever to reach level 4. Same with my new Turkoman.

  14. Well, I keep my profile "offline" for the opposite reason, once a troll sets his sights on you they will actually follow you around the game, I had to switch to offline to keep this one guy from tracking me down and hunting me. I was up in Colter hunting by myself one day and he and his posse showed up, killed me and rode off, lol. I had enough of that so I went to "offline" mode to prevent it. So it isnt the only indication of a Troll as I dont troll anyone.

  15. I'm going to come out and say it. I can count the number of genuine griefer issues I have encountered on the fingers of one hand. I get the occasional idiot/posse of idiots who just gun me down for no reason, resulting in a 1-15 (depending on my mood) minute shootout, but getting shot by the occasional fool does not amount to griefing IMO. I have yet to encounter anyone, no matter how obnoxious, who hasn't been disheartened by 40 rounds of explosive ammo and a quiver full of dynamite arrows, if it comes to it. Maybe I'm just lucky, but with 265 hours of online play logged (about 250 of those lone wolf), I'm just not experiencing what other people seem to be experiencing. I'm not doubting the truth of what anyone else is saying, but for me, the very high level 'professional griefer' is nothing but a myth. All I get is stupid dumb kids. I never shoot first, but in freeroam I always carry a volcanic pistol permanently loaded with explosive rounds in my offhand holster. That tends to bring arguments to an end fairly quickly, if I survive the first shot despite the nerfing of NWO.

  16. Last night I had a posse of 4 kill me while fishing. I came back and shot all 4. They then proceeded to come at me from all sides with explosive rounds and incendiary buckshot. I kept running towards them doing the jig. They were getting irritated according to the language they were using. I kept silent until they wasted all their ammo. Finally said guess you need duck fat now. Slowly road away without any issues.

  17. My Arabian with either the Nacogdoches or panter saddle seems to never run out of stam. My button mashing wears my hand out first. Not as skiddish IMO as people report.

  19. We are all xbox, sadly. But it is fun as a newly minted over-50 to get revenge on the dirtbag griefers who would hunt me for no reason, often while I was just fishing. Now when they take a cheep shot at me I call over my posse on mic and we go after the cowards until they leave.

  20. Black Arabian best horse in the game, I don't find it jittery stomped on crocs with it & run down wolfs, got my fox trotter out it went straight back to the stable riding it felt like driving without power steering 😂

  22. If you want speed, stamina and good handling then the Arabian is a good pick. Very jittery though freaks out at most things. Fox trotter is fast with good stamina. But dies easily. Jittery as well. Turkoman is a good all round horse for speed, health , stamina doesn't freak out. Shire horse is real tanky. Saddles/stirrups count as well for perks. Best way to go is experiment. Find out what best suits your play style. Asking other players can be good but most of the responses you will get are subjective. Is that helpful?

  23. If a Taliban riding a horse full speed toward an OP gets hit gets hit center mass by a 7.62 round from a rifle, he most definitely goes backward over the rear end of the horse, which is what I mean by my example. However, I understand your point about Hollywood and was just being picky.

  24. I'm mostly mystified as to how the mechanics of horse collisions play out, generally. I feel like I would crash less often if I understood which angles of attack were more dangerous than others. Not to cause collisions, mind you, but to avoid them. There is a barrel on the Fort Wallace course that I'm nearly convinced is a trick barrel, because every time I go for it I faceplant, though no other obstacles are readily apparent. Every time I feel like I'm starting to get an intuitive sense of crash mechanics, something happens that throws my model out the window. Methinks server lag also occasionally plays a role. And if there's catch up or rubberbanding, which many report there is and which I guess it's happening but it's done subtly? And, in the case of shotguns to the back, not so subtly, but in an indirect way if you catch my drift. . I've never tested trying to slam onto the brakes to throw a horse behind you, partly because it's pretty unsporting, but also because I have no sense of how brute or delicate the collision mechanics are or what degree of randomness is injected as a substitute for nuanced physics and therefore what chances I'd have of surviving, much less finding the holy grail: a counter to the aforementioned shotgun to the back. @dredd1961 It's helpful in that it seems subjective to everyone else, too! I enjoy that the horses all have distinctive personalities and playstyles, I really do. For instance, I find my Arabian way less jittery than my Turkoman, for which I'm having a bit of buyer's remorse and kind of wish I'd joined the Cult of the Fox Trotter. My Nokota got pushed into the rail ahead of the last turn in Saint Denis Plantations today in what to all appearances was a deliberate maneuver - and an effective one, with Molly going down and taking any hopes of a spot on the podium with her. So I'm going to be taking my Ardennes in to the next Race event and see if I can get the rubberbanding and collision modelling to work for me instead of against me. I'm currently bringing Karen, my Ardennes, to races just for a change of pace and testing purposes. Too early to draw any conclusions, but fun. One difference is playing from behind seems to mean more shooting to catch up. And the shooting is not my favorite part (though I'm becoming a better shot for having had to practice). There's been maybe one collision where it seemed it might have made a difference, but another where I thought it might and didn't. *shrugs*

  25. I’d say keep faith. We got a big update coming any time now (summer). this game is something to be played over years. These weekly trickledown updates are just something to occupy a little time between the bigger updates.

  26. "People are quitting or not playing due to lack of things to do in free roam and too many pvp modes they don't like. What should we do?" "Put out new clothes and combine the pvp modes people hate the most and say it's new!" *sigh I was trying to keep some faith, but now ...

  27. My biggest problem with them is having to sit around and wait for the match to end after you're eliminated. It's especially painful during the back half of the match when everybody stays in one spot refusing to move for fear of dying. It really drags the match on.

  30. So R* implemented anti- grief measures which I believed helped. But is poaching the new griefing? Over the last couple of days I've had other players loot the NPC's I've shot (during an ambush that the player just happened to ride by as I began looting), skin my kills and very brazingly took a 3 star deer off my horse. I did not retaliate in any way because this is a just a game and at the very least I got the XP. However, it is extremely frustrating. I spent real money on a game that I enjoy playing less everytime I play.
