You can still do both. There is just a 10-15 minute window where Harriet won't let you do business with her after you've killed some animals. Just get your business done with her first and then go out hunting. You have to keep pumping the animal with sedative rounds until you you see the red X as if you've mortally wounded it. Instead of dying, it will run for a little bit and then pass out. You can then walk up to it and take a sample and if you wish, revive it for extra naturalist xp, provided you have some animal reviver sold by Harriet. The bigger the animal, the more rounds it takes to sedate it. You cannot sedate birds and small critters like squirrels, rats, chipmunks, toads, frogs and bats. The shots will kill them.

Sure. Just pretend that Harriet is your in game wife and it will all make sense.

So, I'm on foot because riding, keeping up, and shooting on target is a complete no no. 6-7 hits in on a small deer and it's not even slowing down. My energy is gone and with the undergrowth and multiple animal trails I have no idea where the small deer is because there are no blood trails. If I get lucky and find it. it is still full of energy so bouncing around I just keep missing the shots. REALITY: I set up a hide where I know my subject will come to at some point. I take one, two at the most, shots and wait for the target to drop. ROCKSTAR: At least four shots to bring down a jack rabbit so don't even bother looking at anything bigger. This is a total fail by Rockstar . . . Hunter here I come.

Does that mean you CAN play both roles at the same time?

There is plenty of scope with this subject and there are plenty of old buggers like me brought up on Westerns who would welcome it all. Rockstar have this knack for timing updates just when the gold is low - with the available goodies on a timed supply meaning we can't hang around to collect gold but have to buy some - so they could clean up with some more well timed additions.

I expect they sell an expensive pamphlet next update to increase the sedative rounds effect. I craft them myself. but notice no difference in buying/crafting.

The Naturalist patch has brought with it totally opaque black lenses to my favourite brass rimmed glasses . . . hope this is something to be patched?

I'll jump into this conversation as well. When I first got into the Naturalist role, I was a little confused at first on the purpose of the role. But, the more I played into the role, the more interesting the role. I feel like it's one of those that you actually have into in order to enjoy the new role. I think the missions in this role are harder than the other 4 roles. I'm on lvl 10 on the role, but lvl 5 is where I thought it gets more diverse.

Outlaw Gary posted a video on You Tube, seemed like he had to administer the sedative multiple times. It may be to nerfed in game.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. Found out that the shots kill small animals but good to have it confirmed and also the red X. Carry max reviver but didn't realise it brings xp. Do you know what would happen if you go to the limit with Harriet and then change to Hunter to get everything there?

....so is it that the sedative is ineffective or simply takes more time to take effect? ....unless of course you pump them full of 'em. I guess my question is how does the sedative work in relation to its use. Is it like firearms in the game where they do "X" amount of damage, does it possibly have a timed effect or both or.....?

If we go the conservationist route what becomes of our Trader business if we can no longer kill animals?

Yes I’ve noticed that with the new update as well. For the first time bandits came after me during a Trader delivery.

So here is what I’m thinking, I’m glad we got another role, but how is this any different than the trader role. Could of just been an add on to that role. What would be nice is an actual outlaw role. Some cattle rustling and real cowboy activities would have been nice. Saloons with saloon girls for adult fun with train and bank robberies. I mean come on.

Glad to see others enjoying the new features and fixes. I'm curious to see if the animal populations have increased for me as well. I'll probably start playing again in the coming days.

If you get the Elephant rifle, you can shoot it dead, first time. I used almost 20 shots with an ordinary rifle at first, without luck. Maybe it got soft, i dont know ;D - Also, i really really love the work put into this new role! i am ALMOST saying its worth the 7 months, but i guess Corona played a big part in this though.. Nevertheless, animals spawns like crazy now, and its a real pleasure to ride, and have life around you like never before.. The game just got 50% better. Now, i know Rockstar plans to build further into the roles already existing, and also adding small portions of new stuff everytime they send out an update, so who knows? we might get something cool in the next portion.. Let the Hotels bring in BATH functions, for roleplayers like me ;-)
