  1. Depends on your situation - if there are decent sized fish in your location then the special spinner is not the best option but if all you can see is tiddlers then the spinner is the best way to go as it will catch them the quickest, whatever they are. Recommend R* rename it the Fishing Lottery as it only takes place once a week, has a low chance of invitation, and is generally going to be won by the person who spawns in the luckiest spot.
  2. Don’t disagree with you but griefing starts with that first kill (if they’re using explosive ammo as you have no defence) which comes completely unwarranted and unprovoked. I’m very aware of what’s going on around me at all times as I use the companion app but I’m the sort of person to give people the benefit of the doubt. Blowing away any player that comes a bit close or ‘looks at you funny’ only makes the situation in the game worse. Can’t buy money? You can buy gold which can be used as an in-game cash substitute, I don’t see the difference.
  3. Apart from the fact that you have no idea who the griefers are until they grief you and now, with more of them having explosive rounds, you'll be dead by the time you know a griefer is around. And then you're at the disadvantage of spawning off your horse, with the guns you had loaded (Varmint rifle & maybe Springfield if you were hunting) and them knowing you're coming for revenge. I disagree with the idea that anything should be available for gold rather than rank based - if I want that sort of pay-to-win crap I'll play some 'free' game on the ipad. But you're probably right that explosive ammo shouldn't be in the game at all.
  4. I didn't start playing online until a couple of months back so I missed out on getting the gold handouts and the Arabian and Alligator saddle for free and had to grind to buy them but that was down to my decision to not show RDO any interest early on, I accept that. Given the hype around this game, I suspect that the vast majority owned it from release date and could have been playing online since December to access the available bonuses. There's a big difference between a bit of bonus xp and completely shifting the goalposts of what rank is needed to attain certain key items in the game. Bonus xp just gives a slight boost towards ranking up if you play the game. Lowering the rank requirements for items means anyone willing to pay-to-play can attain things that were out of reach to them. I'll bet there will be a higher percentage of potential griefers that have played enough to reach rank 60 than to reach rank 90, not to mention a bigger player pool to start with so good luck playing your hunting & fishing playstyle going forward, it just got made a whole lot harder for you by R*.
  5. Yeah, me. And probably the vast majority of high ranking players that you haven’t met.
  6. Just made rank 82 so right in the neighbourhood for the pamphlets I was really looking forward to getting and now anyone at rank 60 can get them? Seriously R*? Way to piss off the most loyal portion of your player-base. Why not just introduce the Oppressor to Red Dead already and be done with it so I know not to waste any more of my time?
  7. Picking herbs is often a problem in terms of all of what you pick actually counting but other than that I don't have any problems with them. The clue is in the name - they are challenges - if they were easy what would be the point? The rarer animals can take some time to find but not many spawn ever anyway and everyone is out hunting them so of course it'll be harder than usual. Switching servers to start out at a location you know is good for the animal usually works - had to do that for the cranes the other day. I like the daily challenges - they give a reason to do different things in the game and go to different areas of the map. I don't often get them all done (don't really like the PvP modes) but its still a good gold and xp boost.
  8. Yeah, thats what I was wondering as we also only had 2.
  9. Clearing the cache lol - R* answer to every problem, solution to none!
  10. Anybody seen it pop on a day other than Saturday - so far that’s the only day I’ve seen it but I didn’t get to play yesterday so may have missed it entirely for this week, lol.
  11. OP - I had the exact same problem. First tried it and it said no waypoint set but then any waypoint I set, near or far, it said I couldn’t race to that point. Is there criteria for where u can race to or a minimum number of posse members?
  12. Yeah I do, but its not always possible when you're in a firefight with enemies coming from all sides and distances. The Lemoyne Raiders Mansion hideout for instance.
  13. Yeah I used to do that in GTA - try new vehicles out in story mode before buying them in online. Until R* stopped adding the new stuff to story mode. 👎
  14. Yeah I know and fully intend to ditch the saddle at the earliest opportunity of getting a better one like I did with the Arabian. Unfortunately I didn’t start playing online soon enough to get them free but I could at least get them at lower rank. Just been checking in the game and the improved version saddles (not specials) combined with the best stirrups do blow the alligator saddle out of the water.
  15. Cool, that’s what I hoped.
  16. Ah yes I forgot my saddle added a bar to the stamina and health stats - I was only thinking in terms of the % stats each saddle/stirrup offers. I don’t think a regular saddle with the top stirrups can touch the special saddles you unlock at the high rank levels but the alligator one is a bit of a watered down “special”.
  17. Just checking as I may have phrased my original question poorly - what I meant was do you have to buy the $700 tent for each camp theme you own?
  18. Totally agree with Renascent's post albeit I've not yet tried the Turkoman. I got the Red Chestnut Arabian as soon as I could afford it but while it was an upgrade on what you start with its really not as good as the stats suggest because of its temperament and clumsiness in tripping over pebbles. I was torn between getting a MFT or Turkoman but went with the MFT and it is far and away a better steed (than the Arabian). Better stamina and health and at least equivalent speed to the Arabian I had but its how it behaves in the critical situations that really set it apart - it can handle packs of wolves and other predator attacks with barely a flinch, it breezes though PvE ambushes & hideouts, and hardly trips or crashes except in rider error. Hell its even had head-ons with mounted O'Driscolls and 'butted them to ground without falling or bucking me. I still intend to get a Turkoman but I'm no longer sure I'll get the Black Arabian I originally picked out as the best horse on paper. I didn't think saddles and stirrups affected the circles' size, only the rates of depletion and regeneration? I still have the Alligator saddle which, again I bought as soon as I could afford it. I've not checked for sure but now I have all the stirrups unlocked its possible that the top ones combined with a 'normal' saddle could better its stats but I'm holding off upgrading until I unlock the other special saddles. My original horse and Arabian didn't count towards the 5 breeds award (guessing because they were both available for free, even though I had to pay for the Arabian). To get the award I'll likely buy cheap horses and then get rid of them since there currently is little need to have multiple horses and the daily stable charge is per horse. Can anyone tell me if you have to own all 5 horses at the same time for the award?
  19. Are your cores higher than they would previously have been though? And does the upgraded tent carry across all camp themes?
  20. Went for a while getting no maps from hideouts but currently have 3 in my inventory which I must've got since the last map I did for lvl 70 and I just made lvl 75 (not picked up that map yet). Doesn't seem too bad when thought about like that. On the other hand, I noticed last night I was 1 map away from the next award milestone of 25 and I've done 150+ hideouts. So excluding the maps for levelling up I've had fewer than a map for every 12 hideouts cleared. Caveat - I've not solo'd maybe 40% of the hideouts I've done so maps could have been picked up in those unknown to me. Also, could any maps have gone missing with enemy bodies despawning before I've had a chance to loot them? On some of the larger hideouts its difficult to make sure you loot every body without any despawning.
  21. My cores are only ever about half or less when I spawn into a session - I thought this was just a feature of the game but helped by upgrading the tent at camp? What I don't understand is my dead eye energy (outer circle) nearly always being empty when joining a session - health & stamina are always fine.
  22. We play with party chat within the posse - I can’t abide listening to a bunch of kids screaming over their mics constantly while I’m trying to play.
  23. Sadly that award is too quick and too easy - first one I hit the reset limit on. Seems daft you have to pick herbs to 1000 for the other award but only have to sell 100 to the doctor each reset.
  24. I've only done river challenges so far which seem to be luck of the draw as to where on the river you spawn - one time I was where all the salmon were so absolutely killed the competition, the other times I've been scrabbling around for tiddlers and trying to compete with volume. There's not much you can do for placement as the locations normally span a waterfall. I've seen lake fishing pop once but didn't want to accept the invite at the time - I imagine that should be a more level playing field as you can move round the whole lake to take up whatever spot you want.
  25. This thread makes me reminisce about GTA San Andreas where you had to beef up on as many burgers/pizza/fried chicken as your character could handle without puking in order to have enough health to complete the ambulance/fire/police missions. R*'s implementation of the effects of diet and exercise peaked with that game I think. I did have my RDO character puking after eating too many prairie poppies the other day, didn't think to check whether I lost any weight tho.
