  1. I’m still hoping the surprise element of the update will be Mexico opening up 😋. I remain convinced it got a graphical detail buff in the last major update in readiness for this release. Anyone else find Cripps has managed to clone himself in your camp and appears as a white dot on the radar?
  2. Have to say I’m firmly in the wait-and-see camp. It all sounds interesting but the GTAO experience leaves me a bit wary. Trader sounds worryingly like the warehouse business in GTA. I actually loaded up GTA the other day to finally check out the casino and immediately realised how little I understand the mechanics of that game these days despite having put hundreds of hours into it.
  3. Nah, he didn’t manage to trample me right even jumping on me as soon as I spawned. I had the most civilised session for the train challenge earlier. I jumped on the train as another player was driving it, then another player jumped on after me. I waited for the first guy to be done with the challenge and then took over driving and the guy after me did the same. A 2 man posse jumped on after so I feared carnage but they must’ve got off again. Didn’t expect to get that challenge done.
  4. New one for the list - revive 3 players. As soon as I spawned in today I had a player race straight over to me on his horse and try to trample me. I thought it odd but then had a chance to look at the daily challenges and figured this random attack was to create a revive opportunity. Stupid challenge.
  5. I've encountered panthers in at least 2 other locations but not as reliably as S of Braithwaite Manor so that area does just get saturated with players when that challenge is on - I hate it too (although I did get it last time it was up). Also pisses me off how frequently the panther is only 1* considering how rare it is. For the jumping on a horse challenge the best place I found for starting out is S of the hideout in the NE corner of the map. Just to the S of the rail track, E of the trail there is a bluff with a ledge that gradually diverts from the ground level. Park your horse underneath and then jump from increasing heights off the ledge until you reach the magic height. Once you've got an idea from this how high is high enough, and how to jump without faceplanting, its easier to find other places on the map to achieve it. I've also read some players say they do it jumping off certain buildings.
  6. Right up there with the people that jump on the train when they can see you’re riding it shooting animals, drive 50 yards then jump off again and ride off. Scum. Sub-human scum. /Alan Partridge
  7. Yeah I don’t bother with vultures either but prairie chickens conveniently usually fly over in 3s so I’ll do that one. Stealth killing NPCs I can’t usually be arsed doing. I won’t travel to the other side of the map to pick herbs. These days I tend to keep hold of various meats and herbs to do all the seasoned cooking challenges without having to go hunting.
  8. The problem with the much anticipated heists in GTA was that they actually heralded the end of that game being fun to play because of all the ridiculous OP vehicles and weapons that came with them or followed after. There is definitely a place for bank and train robberies in RDO but people will expect decent payouts and worthwhile things to spend those ill-gotten gains on.
  9. Successfully? Did he go the extra mile and season them with predator bait?
  10. Hmm, good question. Grizzlies/Cougars/Panthers may be a bit trickier since they are more likely to surprise ambush you and I fear may be programmed to attack players before going after NPCs (kind of a Westworld thing). I remember a lot more bears attacking NPCs, stalking elk and fending off packs of wolves in RDR1 than there are in RDO. In story mode I even saw a few grizzlies fishing the Dakota for salmon which was cool. I'll take up your challenge though and drag someone into my favourite Grizzly hunting ground and see what happens.
  11. Nice work! I've not managed that yet - I dragged a guy (still kicking) across an island between 2 gators and neither of them snatched him. I then let him loose on the island but he was quite accurate shooting at me so I had to lay him out before giving him a chance to run into their jaws. Maybe I'll try with one of the unarmed farm workers N of St Denis.
  12. Actually they don't - both times I got the gators to attack, the victims were already dead. I've also tried shooting bodies to get fresh blood in the water - the strikezone for alligators just seems to be ridiculously small. The encounters in single player and even when you rescue the woman from gator attack in online have more realistic depictions of them as predators.
  13. One of my favourite pasttimes is feeding strangers to the alligators but they just seem so damn lazy! After early efforts in the game I had thought it impossible to successfully feed strangers to the alligators (without getting eaten yourself) having dumped bodies in the Kamassa and dragged them onto islands right in front of alligators and had the reptiles just sit there and do nothing. But finally, the other day, I disposed of a stranger in the river and went into eagle eye to see the 'fumes' of a gator speeding towards the body. It devoured the stranger, pleasingly eradicating all evidence of my unprovoked count of murder. Encouraged by this I rode off to load my horse with animals to see what else I could get the gators to eat but alas I couldn't entice them with venison, chicken or fox. Yesterday I tried again with a stranger dropping him in the water about 6 feet in front of a hungry looking alligator. The gator was unmoved, however just as I turned away from the river another gator came steaming in from left-field to claim the body. A lucky escape for me. So, are alligators lazy, not hungry, or just need the lure of live human flesh within striking distance in order to attack?
  14. In GTA though they took the animals out that were in story mode and so you didn’t have the hunting & fishing forms of income. Heists were a hell of a long time coming in GTAO don’t forget. And sadly they actually heralded the ruining of the game with all the ridiculous vehicles with mental price tags. Careful what you wish for.
  15. I never claimed it to be a secret! 😉 btw there are no orchids online, only vanilla and they’re not worth seeking out as all herbs sell for 25c. And catch yourself a lake sturgeon off the east coast of the marshes - better money than gar. I’m convinced gators are more dosile in online than they were in story although if you take too much of a liberty with them they will still kill you!
  16. Well I was back in the game when I posted and got my challenges done so...
  17. Just went to log in to pick off a few dailies, still down. What time do the challenges reset again?
  18. Lucky you. Out of interest what is your total map count?
  19. It wasn't griefing but yesterday I had an incident where I was ambushed after one of those escort missions gone bad and I was taking out all the incoming NPCs when another player rides in and starts 'helping out'. No problem I thought (I had just inadvertently assisted another player with his wolf hunt having stumbled on the pack in Tall Trees). And when the ambush is cleared this dude gets off his horse and starts looting bodies (he only killed 1). I don't really care and just loot as many as I can before he gets to them (having holstered my weapon). Next thing I know he's spotted I'm in defensive mode and lobs a fire bottle at me killing me and my horse and then hightails it to Blackwater leaving me with scrawny nag and a $4 vet bill. I was shocked to see this tossbag was level 230 or something, I thought it had to be some low level scrote pulling such antics. I'm sure many will say trust nobody in this game even if they appear friendly and helpful but if I took that attitude I wouldn't have had the situation I had last week where someone randomly rode up to me and gave me 2 pelicans to skin for the daily challenge. Thats the frustration with RDO - there are good people out there but there's no way to tell them apart from the wankers regardless of what mechanisms R* put in place. Fortunately there are no serious repercussions for dying in the game so I can continue with my attitude of giving everyone a chance until they prove hostile.
  20. Yeah you can only carry 2 birds on your horse but you can carry more plumes and feathers in your satchel. Shoot everything you see, skin them all and cherry pick the best carcasses to carry on your horse. Herons/Cranes/Egrets/Spoonbills/Pelicans plumes & feathers are all considered different so you can carry 10 of each at a time. You can also only carry 1 large alligator skin (but loads of small ones) on the horse (or a large fish, hint, hint). 2 alligators will likely take you to the maximum big game meat you can carry (10) but you only get 2 teeth per animal. Shoot them in the head with your rifle for a clean kill and the best possible skin (same for all large animals). Oh, and if you find any turtles shiv them with your hunting knife - they count as medium animals so work towards that buckle award.
  21. 🤣 What, suddenly in the last 24 hours EVERYBODY on red dead is out hunting alligators N of St Denis because of a post I made on this forum?? I don't think so buddy, that area has always been very common knowledge. And a lot of players, myself included, have become a bit bored of just hunting the crap out of that area, so I never see it that busy anymore. There are a few hunting areas where I'm normally guaranteed to score a rare animal that I wouldn't necessarily divulge here but that area is definitely not one of them.
  22. I'm lvl 116 and pretty sure I've never gotten a map from anything other than hideouts, handouts and ranking up. I've read before its possible to get them from these other activities but I've never had that happen. I even lost a map the other day with a server disconnect when I was doing Gaptooth hideout. The game remembered my bow kills and lost arrows but the treasure map....what treasure map??
  23. @PebbleDashDon't worry about upgrading your tent for a long while yet. Prioritise getting a varmint rifle (for birds & small animals) and a bolt action rifle (for large animals). Head to the marshes NE of Saint Denis and slaughter alligators and any birds you see. You'll also find the odd whitetail and boar around there. The animals are usually plentiful and its a short trip down the railway line to the butcher. When you can, get a fishing rod - although you don't get xp for fishing, the large fish go for $7-8 each (tho you can only put 1 on your horse at a time) and medium fish are $2-2.5 each (store 10 in your satchel). Doing the story missions will serve you well in getting a start in xp and money so try and find a decent posse to work through those with although it is possible to just team up with randoms via matchmaking to do them. Try to do the daily challenges - often there are herb picking and hunting ones and they pay out gold and 200xp each (260 currently with the bonus). Check out the buckle awards and pick off ones that you can do easily - they net you good xp and, if they can be reset, gold bonuses aswell.
  24. Yeah it helps but thats a one-off whereas a challenge reward would've been something you could rely on. I have about 13 in my satchel right now as I cba to do them but that still only puts me at about 50. Rate of getting them going forward will be slower so it'll likely take hundreds of hours of grinding hideouts and a fair bit of luck to obtain the buckle. Oh well.
