Phew, glad to hear you say that - $350 for the shovel and I didn't find a use for it last night made me a touch nervous! Will have a proper Collector session this week and get to grips with it.

I jumped onto one last night, went right over the cliff with it. Dead. Then met two guys arguing, shot the shooter, chased off by the law. Some days a good man just can't win.

Lovely, and thank you for the welcome! I hit level 50 last night - felt like quite a milestone. That obviously gave me a treasure map, which brought me to three, so I spent some time finding those three treasure chests, happened upon Madam Nazar in the margins so sold some duplicate discoveries to her, that hour brought me over $500 profit, so I bought a shovel (!) (which I hopes comes in useful as it was pricey!) and still had $200 in cash and Cripps is telling me that we're ready to do a run, which will be another $150. So while I'm far from rich, I'm already at the point where I don't have money worries, and can see a point where I will be wealthy, so I am properly past the part of the game which some seem to consider 'grindy' (although I never have, personally). If I have a quiet moment I tend to just look for stuff I haven't done or completed in the Progress screen, do some work towards a buckle or something. But personally I think that the game is amazing. Just amazing. Did have three griefers in under an hour, though, last night - Annesburg seems worse than elsewhere for them, in my view. I ran them off but it was more than I have had before. All part of life as a cowboy, I guess.

Much like what the others have said, but I see the game really as giving me an environment to have fun in, rather than a game with an end result. I have spent the past two years playing Elite Dangerous, and there's the same thing going on there. I have billions of credits, all the ships and kit I could want, but I love just heading out exploring in my ship. I came to RDR at Christmas (thanks, kids!), and tried online for the first time six weeks ago. I'm now level 49, high level in all three careers, have a few horses and most of the weapons and am loving it. Not because I am nearing the end, but because I love being a cowboy! I set small goals - at one point I really wanted a pair of custom Schofields, then it was a scoped Springfield rifle, then a camp upgrade or a particular horse, but basically I don't need any of that I'lll engage in and love any new career they bring out, but I don't need it - I just love tooling around and having those odd encounters with other players. So I'm here for keeps, just for what it is.

Did the new Legendary Bounty last night, thought it was great, really great. Going to struggle without a posse to do it at two star, though!!

This doesn't help, but I feel your pain. I had to make a large run to Valentine Station over the weekend. Was attacked by a human posse on arrival, fought them off but went back to the cart in a hurry (before they respawned), raced to the delivery point (all of 100yds away) and got the darned cart stuck between the fast travel post and the station fence. Was wedged about 2m from the yellow delivery zone. Lost the lot.

That's top drawer advice. I'm pretty new to collecting and was similar to OP - I'm now almost level 20 for both Trader and Bounty Hunter, but only #5 for collector (and got much of that from doing the 'wreck salvage' (or whatever it's called, love those). Bought four maps from Nazar at the weekend, completed those yesterday, and now I suddenly have a real feel for the sort of place where collectibles might be stashed. So am gaining Collector xp hand over fist.

That's a good tip, thank you, I never thought of trying other stables (I always seem to gravitate back to the one in Valentine, for some reason, perhaps the lack of gunsmiths in some places). Thank you very much, I'll mosey on over to Strawberry tonight and take a look.

I don't bother with GTAO, didn't enjoy it, largely for reasons OP alludes to. I'll stick to the Xbox for RDRO (for similar reasons, but also as I work from home having RDR on the laptop would be a slippery slope to bankruptcy!), and if hackers ever find a way to get bazookas, tanks, Hulk etc into the Xbox RDR I'll switch back to Elite Dangerous. But I can't see it, not worried about it.

I was just worried that if I shot them there'd be no map to loot, so as $5 is chump change I wouldn't chance it. Honour is so easy to raise in this game that an honour loss in and of itself is not going to stop me doing what I want.

Dang, hadn't realised that. Hope the dappled black turns up at some point, the kids even had a name for him, and I kind of miss the fella. I'll feel bad getting a similar black horse and hoping they don't realise! Thanks for the response.

I thought it was going to be something to do with the old chap who keeps turning up in my camp cadging free meals! Thank you so much, will say yes tonight.

I bought a map from a random dude on a hill for $5, led me to a chest with some gold and over $80 in it, as well as a miracle tonic, so yes I have done this and always will again. Liked your story. But what is 'AFK', sorry? I had similar last night - I was skinning a deer, some guy started shooting at me with a rifle from within his own camp, I couldn't shoot him back. I think he was just messing with me as he was hitting the turf right next to me, never actually hit me. But still, I'd have shot off his hat or something had I been able.

Quite, particularly as just as I do in Elite Dangerous I always seem to run at almost zero funds, despite having grossed thousands. Just love a bit of retail therapy and can't stop customising weapons!

Thank you very much. Sorry for being dim, but what is a role based free roam event? I have done supply missions and have posse'd up for the legendary bounties, do those count? Or am I missing something? I might be too low-ranked - Collector/4, bounty hunter/9 and trader/14. Thank you again & sorry to use you as a RDR helpdesk. I'm mostly solo, too - although I am thinking of starting a posse - but I find that if I hang out for a few minutes by the bounty boards I often get a posse invite. Then three or four of us gang up and do a couple of group bounties (we did the Owlhoots a couple of nights ago) and then just go our separate ways. It was lots of fun and boosted my xp return for bounty hunting. So it's sometimes worth a lurk. I'm a level 43 Doc Holliday clone so don't think I'm presenting as some unusual golden ticket who will transform others' play! So it must work for others, too.

Good afternoon everybody, My kids got me RDR for Christmas. It was the 'deluxe edition', which included some free weapons, an outfit and a couple of horses. One of the horses was the 'dappled black thoroughbred'. I played exclusively solo campaign until last month, love the game. The free horses were available to purchase for nothing at the Valentine stable, and always respawned there. However, last month I discovered online (largely as our eldest got Xbox Live Gold for Fifa), and love it, am now level 43 and having a blast. However: does the dapple black thoroughbred exist in the online game at all, does anyone know? I'm not looking to get my freebie download horse in there (although it would be lovely), I'm happy to pay ingame currency for him, but does anyone know whether the horse exists? I have an affectionate attachment to him and my kids are asking where he is so would be great to get the same horse. Thank you in advance.

Yes quite - I just try to keep very busy to pick up 0.2 bars here and there, but it has taken a bit of graft to hoard 50 gold bars the long way. I'm past even bothering to raise a ticket tbh - I try to just build a stack of cash by maximising the impact of my game time and try to forget that bigger multipliers are theoretically possible. Has taken a while to upgrade my camp, though!

My streak got to 14 last week and then reset, and then got to nine last night and then reset again, so whatever the issue is it isn't fixed.

Yes, sorry, you're right, the Xbox has just been so weirdly stable for me since I got it that glitches seem like things that happen only on the internet. Can't believe that I said that out loud! You, sir, just made me laugh out loud and spill my morning coffee. Chapeau.
