Is there anywhere to sell tonics and moonshine?
KRooKeD KRoW replied to Poggy's topic in Red Dead Online
The general store or the fence might take the shine. Stables might take the tonic. Didnt think there is a doctor online. -
I've been loving it. Not much trouble with trolls. Had one person shoot me when I was busy on here, just standing around in the open, and another that tried to get me in camp, but I had my white flag up so nothing he did worked. Mostly been moving around or in missions, keeping clear of people. The only issues I have are because it's still early, lack of some content and such, and some bugs (butchers and some of the menus can get buggy). Still tons to do in the world. Other than not being able to get on right away when it launched, haven't had any connection issues. Liking some of the features that are different from story mode, tho do miss my hair and beard growing. I like when I feel like doing a mission, can get into one pretty much instantly with the quick menu, loads quick (gta took forever), and if someone leaves, you can continue from a checkpoint, with the mission adjusting according to how many players remain. Amazon Prime style ordering is kinda cool, order from the catalog anywhere and pickup from post office or your camp. Nice having any extra ammo you bought (this way at least) remain in your camps chest for later (hoping it stays after logging off)

There is no trapper online. You sell your pelts and other animal parts to the butcher. There doesn't seem to be any clothes crafting online, the pelts and feathers are only good for making money. Pretty decent source of money too, think they raised it from story mode. you can still use the meat and fat from animals, an flight feathers, but it seems the rest is just vendor trash online.

That sounds pretty fun, too. I can just see myself now, playing a simpleton, only sounds I make are low-pitched laughs, maybe some grunts. Then when we go on a heist or raid a gang hideout, my posse tells me to stay with the horses, I look at them blankly, laugh a little, and immediately rush into the area laughing and waving my arms in the air. Either that or be a bit like Sloth from Goonies. So many possibilities with RP servers. Normal gameplay, everyone is more or less cookie-cutter
-
That sounds kinda like fun. You have to do things like get in an argument with a player before challenging them to a duel, speak like the character you're trying to play, etc. If I was playing the good guy, I'd prolly go around saying "Howdy Partner" Or "Ma'am" to everyone I passed by. And if somebody comes in not RPing, maybe a vote kick system to get rid of somebody breaking the immersion.
-
Ya, at least for now. Maybe $200 for a posse that can hold 50 wouldn't be too bad. And it is for a permanent one, not sure what other differences there are between the temporary and permanent ones. Did see something about emblems and a couple other things, but I guess that may just be the options to customize your posse, and with temporary ones, they're prolly just generic since it doesn't last beyond the play session
-
I never tried to take them off (or even checked if there was an option to do so when I got near it), but I had no problem selling them to the butcher directly from my horse. I think as long as my horse was near, they were in the sell window. Although it sounds like you may have tried that, so it could just be one of many bugs that are inevitable at launch of an Online game/service.

For the Bandit Challenges...

I think it was left on the D-Pad to bring up the quick menu, from there you can start a temporary posse (free, and only lasts while people or online in it) or a permanent posse ($200 and it persists even after everyone logs) under the "POSSE" menu in the quick menu. Right now, since the posse limit is small (7-8 people, I think) i feel it isn't worth it to have a permanent one unless it's just for you and a small group of friends who don't plan on letting others join.

GTA O has me a bit worried about RDR online
KRooKeD KRoW replied to HuDawg's topic in Red Dead Online
It's been a long time since I played it, but I feel like that was how the original RDR was, blips only showed up when the player was spotted by another player or if they fired their weapon, and then would only stay on the radar/map as long as somebody still had LOS on them (maybe even a short while after losing LOS, kind of a last known position thing). I may be wrong about that, but it feels like that's how it should be. Would definitely make those griefers/trolls have to do actual hunting for other players, and we'd still have to watch our backs, but it'd be more enjoyable cuz we can run and hide if we were so inclined. -
Might have something to do with why all my missions and everything disappeared right before everyone was supposed to start getting on [right before 830a EST, the time it went live yesterday (or was supposed to go live, for Xbox)]. Still able to hunt, rob, buy, sell and craft, so not a total loss.
-
It's still early in the game's life for some of those. Private lobbies and passive mode will come, I'm sure. Player icons lit all the time is a little unrealistic, tho this will likely change soon too. Should have to spot a player for them to show on the map/radar, and even then it should disappear if you lose sight of them for some time. I didn't have much trouble with trolls. Most people just rode right past me, only one guy came up and circled me with his gun drawn while I was on here after a mission, then shot me as I started to ride away. You lose your pelts if you die in story mode too, why should it be different online. And I don't remember Rockstar promising anything, let alone penalties for killing. Not being able to stop an animation is a bit unfair, would be nice to break it. You can sell valuables to a fence, animal parts to the butcher, and everything else at the general store. This isn't Minecraft or Ark, or any of the other ones, letting people setup camp wherever they feel like it would not work out for several reasons. Each time you setup a new camp, that's like a moving fee, with a maintenance fee (once a day I think). Nothing wrong with that.

Still a few minutes early. Make sure you exit your game and get the update. Here's hoping for no Day 2 problems, servers are probably about to get flooded.
-
A lot of the features have sliders on them you control with the left thumbstick to adjust how intense that particular feature is, after you select which base settings for that feature you are using. Most of the characters I have seen look pretty normal, though some seem as though they are trying to look like that. Really upsetting about the teeth tho.

When can players that bought the special edition play online?
KRooKeD KRoW replied to Leemanski's topic in Red Dead Online
Other than the digital bonus, horse, guns, whatever yours came with, no, nothing special. -
530a PST (830a EST as R* had posted) would make the most sense since that's when it (was supposed to) go live yesterday. PS4 did go live with some issues, mostly stability from what I hear. Xbox servers didn't go up for some reason for several hours. I doubt they'd delay anything cuz of that, but I wouldn't be surprised of other issues arising due to them "opening the flood gates". I'd imagine the largest number of players did play on Day One, so they'rd be either on already with Ultimate Edition or about to get on.

KRooKeD KRoW replied to Leemanski's topic in Red Dead Online
That actually depends. Ultimate Edition were the only ones with any real special privileges. Starting today, everybody else that played on Day One can get online. Tomorrow, everybody else that played through the first weekend, and then on Friday everybody else that has the game. -
I would imagine since it wasn't live this morning until 830a EST, it may be the same case as the rest of the days. I wouldn't imagine they would give Ultimate Edition players ~16 hours earlier access from the Day One Players, then give Day One players 24 hours earlier access from the Week One players. Not what they're calling them, I just threw random names in. It would make sense to have it go live for the different groups of players every 24 hours, but since when does Rockstar (or anybody, really) do things that make sense.

Still at work for a bit, didnt get to play this morning since the xbox servers were screwey. But from what I've heard so far, it is somewhat better, but also worse. Sounds like generations of inbreeding have taken their toll on the character creator. I didn't have that much of an issue with the GTA:O ones looking terrible, although I play with the customization options quite a lot before I start making the character, just to get an idea of the range of options before beginning. I made one on xbox that looked a bit like me until I changed his hair and makeup and turned him into the Joker. Then on PC, I made on that looked like Harley Quinn (or was trying to make her look like the original cartoon version from Batman:The Animated Series), but was waaaay more creepy, especially when she stuck her head out the back of a van to shoot, which I ended up loving more than what I had envisioned.

Horseman Challenge 9 is bugged
KRooKeD KRoW replied to KittensMcNuggets's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
You do cross at the dam and head south, then east. But you're wanted Dead or Alive in New Austin throughout the whole game, until you get to (I think) the Epilogue. I think it's correct that rain can cause you to fail. I did this challenge several times before I realized getting off your horse fails the challenge. Then I did it twice without getting off, first time failed (maybe it rained cuz i didnt cross any stream, mud pits, etc.) and I gave up for a bit, then tried again and succeeded. Pretty grueling, and you need plenty of the horse stamina tonics (4-5 per attempt, I think) to make it in time. -
I hear parking a wagon on the tracks ahead of the train forces it to stop. You could also ride one out of town, then when it gets far enough away, kill the conductor (with something silent like the bow or a tomahawk so as not to alert the guys on the train) and take your time. I haven't done many train robberies since the first time I waited for a train, the guy I tied up on the tracks kept escaping cuz the train took forever to come by. If you're going for the challenge to rob 5 trains without being arrested or killed, you don't need to rob the whole train. In the first baggage car behind the passenger cars, there is a can off corn or something like that, with nobody having a LoS on it. Just take the one can, and leave. It counts as robbing the train and you don't get a bounty for it since nobody even saw you. Think I had one time where I got off the train, got right back on, stole a second item from the same car, and it counted as a second train robbed. Didn't work when i tried it again, so not sure how it happened. But yea, I doubt they would make something like the gold earring only available from one spot, and if you sell it, you're screwed, since some of the other non-animal parts needed for the trinkets can't be sold. Just keep playing and another should eventually drop for you. Robbing the trains is just a possible way to speed it up.
-
Not entirely certain about that specific item, but I had a similar item I sold that I needed for a trinket, only to find out later I needed it. After looking it up, I found something that said valuables like the watch I needed can be found by robbing trains (probably regular travelers on the road too, but the train has them all concentrated for a quicker score). I'm guessing the gold earring might be available that way too, it just may take some time for it to pop up. I had not tested it yet, as I was trying to get my honor back up to get a couple outfits, and robbing trains is not the way to do that. =P Waiting til I get those outfits (which may never happen now that Online is out) before trying to get the rest of the items for trinkets, which the valuables are the only ones I have left. If you do try out robbing trains and do manage to get what you're after, a report on the result here would be appreciated so myself and others would know that it can be done this way.

Been watching Godless on Netflix....
KRooKeD KRoW replied to [email protected]'s topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
"Hell on Wheels". Great show, watched it on Netflix, finished it a couple weeks ago. It's still on Netflix right now. Watched Buster Scruggs, kinda weird but not bad. And yes, Godless was also really good. Been watching Texas Rising lately, Bill Paxton, Crispin Glover, Ray Liotta, Brendan Fraiser, and many more. Really good, follows the Texas revolt following the events of the Alamo. Pre-American Civil War so not entirely in the same category as what we consider Westerns, but also really good. -
Friendly competitive fun between posse/crews. [PS4]
KRooKeD KRoW replied to Lann's topic in Red Dead Online
This would be good especially if there was an ability to start a feud with another gang. Killing their members could give a slightly higher xp bonus or something when you are feuding. Basically like declaring war against clans and fighting it out to see who can get more points/kills/cash/whatever. Maybe it could last like a week, and whoever wins the feud gets a cash or xp bonus. Got the idea from watching Hatfields & McCoys the other day and thought feuding posses/gangs could be fun. And while you are feuding, you would be matched with public games that have the other posse/gang playing in them, or even initiate a battle of some kind where it pits you against the other gang. -
Sweet, still about 3 hours more at work, can't wait to get home now. Thinking if I actually had played a couple hours before work as I had planned, I would probably be more antsy to get back to play more, knowing what I had in store for myself. Not saying it's a good thing it was delayed/bugged, just that I'm probably more relaxed now than I would have been if I had played a little (a little is never enough)
