Forum Management ?

I have a question to any who are familiar to how forums are managed and I don't mean just this one.   Recently, some how I got a 2 wk banned from another forum with nothing but a general explanation.  In the past when others have been banned and came back, they was told that if they have questions, the proper channels are to go through customer support.   I did that and customer support says they have no control or influence with the forums.  That I needed to contact the CMs outside the forums to get my answers.  I tried and have gotten no response and have no clue who to contact about the issue.  Not saying I am innocent, I may have crossed a line and deserve it, but don't know cause they didn't explain it any better.  Now I have a friend on the forum, who had asked one of the CMs, if they could contact me and get this straightened out.  He was informed a CM's decision is "FINAL".  Thou they have superiors, there is no going over their heads and as part of the agreement, we just accept what is handed down to us.  He was also, told that any further pursuit of my banning is between the CM and I and won't be discussed except in private between the CM and I.  Which I get, but if they refuse to respond how do we discuss it?  Right now I play the game that their employer sells and where I was on the bubble about buying the next.  I have zero interests now.

So does anyone know can we go beyond the CMs decision and speak to anyone above their pay grade to get answers?

Well, as a mod, all I can say is that some forums are much more strict than others. Here, we're kind of lax on most things. (the few things we're not lax on are outlined in the Rules section. That's why they exist.)

But I, personally, would never temp OR permaban anyone without an explanation. Hell, I even temp-banned one recently and took the time to explain why -- then @Benjo told me I'd just temp-banned a SpamBot.  😒  But, I always prefer to err on the side of caution.

@NthnButAGoodTime is also a mod on another popular forum, and has a bit more experience than me. Perhaps he can shed more light?

May I ask which forum it was?

The Division forums/Ubisoft Forums.

@Cokeyskunk, question is though.  Say you take a dislike to me and give me a ban for 2 weeks or whatever.  Is your word "Final" or is there a way where either I can speak to your superior or you outside to see if I am in the wrong or if you might be?

Part of the problem is in the Ubisoft forums, once things become toxic among the community.  Some of the CMs don't take any criticism, as if they will just pick a target to make an example of.  Meanwhile, let the rest of the community continue be toxic.

That place is gross.  It makes the current Judiciary Committee hearings over the SCOTUS pick seem civilized by comparison.

I get ALL my TCTD news from Reddit.  The same goes for any lingering feelings I have for Friday the 13th, the Game.  It's my understanding that this is an unofficial forum for the game, which is why I'm here instead of participating in a more... totalitarian regime on an official forum.  This place is awesome specifically because it's not beholden to any masters--that makes a HUGE difference.  

Edit: on a side note, would you happen to have any information or insight as to what the next Shield is going to be?  I can't find anything, anywhere, and it's slated to drop in less than two weeks.

*Unoffically*  Rebel – October – Get to wave 15 in Resistance – Another expansion Shield, this one from a free update, can be completed with somewhat relative ease by lowering the difficulty. As with other expansion Shields, a better focus would be on Commendations that can be completed in Resistance while also trying to reach wave 15.

I just finished out all the Navy Piers commendations last month.  Now I have to go back there?  I love using my D3 set as much as the next guy, but that is a CHORE--wave 15, so that means TWO Contamination events.  Gross.

It's going to depend a little on what the "m" in the "CM" acronym stands for, @YodaMan 3D. If it's "manager", your quest is probably at an end, if they aren't responding. If it's "moderator" there's probably a voice above them, but depending on their internal communication protocols, you may or may not get anywhere.

Every forum is a bit like a family. Everyone's is different. Internal behavior varies. Responsibility of roles doesn't follow a set pattern from unit to unit.

All that said, it could all come down to your initial approach. If your inquiry was along the lines of "Why in the name of wet scrapple was I banned, you turd disguised as a brownie?!!!" Then I may be able to help you better understand why you haven't gotten a response. That's not accusatory. I don't know you, I'm just throwing out possibilities. If I were trying to gain clarification, I would typically approach with: "Hey, I want to make sure that I don't put myself in the same position again, could you help clarify what behavior earned me a ban, recently?" 

Whatever the case may be, best if luck in clearing things up.

Seems unjust that you got a two week ban without a proper explanation but I have no idea how you would go about getting unbanned although I do find this thread very interesting, I didn't even know game companies set up official forums for their games.

This forum is the first forum I've ever joined and it's been nothing but pleasant, everyone here is brilliant.

There was a waterhead/troll who went by the name "DOC" who was warned about spamming posts and posting a new topic for any random thought that popped into his head.

He was dealt with pretty quickly and apart from the odd spambot all the people joining up now are great.

My response wasn't as bad as the 1st, but not PC.  Second time being banned by the same guy, the 1st time was baloney and he knew it, but he already handed out the ban and when we discussed it later the ban had been lifted and no way to undo what he did.

I was able to contact another CM in the same forum, explained that I felt falsely punished and would like to speak to someone hire up the food chain who could deal with this situation, by giving me an honest answer.  To me it felt more on a personal level then I did anything wrong.  Yes I am calling them on this.

At least you answered.  Doesn't mean I have to like the results, as long as it is a honest answer.  I will live with it and be semi-happy.  At this point I still don't know exactly, what I said that crossed the line.  I may be guilty as sin.   If I am guilty, I don't have a problem with the punishment.   All I know is my buddy said several of  posts got deleted and the CM posted that he removed all toxic posts from the threads and cleaned it up, some of them was mine.    .

If this is how they want to treat potential customers, doesn't mean I have to every buy another game from them.  

Anyway, Thanks for all of the responses.  I know I won't get my answers here, but at least it allowed me to rant and get perceptions from other points of view.

If my understanding is correct, this is fan based and not company based.  Which means, to a certain point of view we can be as vocal as we want within the limits of the rules and the mods can be flexible. 

Vs a corporate forum, where there is always someone else up the food chain that doesn't want anything posted that would reflect badly for the company overall.  Honesty or honest opinions are not allowed.  Though trolls can set there and tell lies all day and the company won't say a word.

Either way, I still don't have the specifics.  To my knowledge, nothing I posted was worthy of being banned for.   Yet, to them he may have been the worst thing in the world.

I think a lot of places online have become overly sensitive because of politics and the general wave of censorship happening everywhere. The only forums I join are ones that are open minded, know humor/joking from actual harassment, and have a short yet reasonable rule list. One of the last gaming forums I was on... Well, it went very, very left and needless to say, I got banned for simply stating an opinion that in no way directly offended or insulted anyone. 

I don't know what forum you are talking about but I wouldn't take it personal. Avoid any kind of politically correct forums and you will be fine.

To me it isn't about being banned.  If I did something that deserved.  I wouldn't argue.  I accept the beatdown and move on.  Just being banned and the lack of communication.  The game itself is coming to an end and they have a sequel that they are trying to get people to buy.  I just won't buy it, if this is how they treat people.

Reddit does a better job of keeping things chill than the official forums for TD.  Hell, if it weren't for @Cokeyskunk, @Truth, and others dragging me here kicking and screaming, I'd be using the RDR2 Official Reddit thread instead.
