Growing up around horses we've always named them on their color or personality.  one of my favorite horses was a big brown super gentle horse.  He was named Brownie.  Another one was Badger, he'd turn on you in an instant for no reason, kinda like when a badger leaves it's den then walks away a few steps and then charges you.  My cousin had an Appaloosa named Spot.  I thought that was pretty obvious and lame, he also had a dog named Spot, he wasn't the imaginative type.  Uncle had a horse named Red, matched his temper and demeanor, he was great at cutting cattle though.  Friend in high school way back when had one called Bolt, originally because he was super fast as a colt, but the name stuck as when you tried to ride him he would bolt.  if you weren't ready for that you were spitting dirt lol.

I name my horses that way in the game, well mostly.

My lost Arabian I called Snow, cause yeah  he was white

The DLC horse i also lost to the horse glitch was called Shadow, 

The jet black Standardbred I'm riding now is Death.  After losing the legendary Arabian and going on the killing spree in Valentine i went hunting up north of Strawberry to cool off and get the perfect elk skin.  I caught him up there and the name seemed fitting since i was killing everyone at the time lol.

Also picked up a grey/black something or other sometime along the way, big work horse looking thing, i haven't ridden it enough to remember what it is.  She's called Darkness as her legs are grey and body/back goes to black.  kinda like the dark coming in.

I used the round table knights names for my horses. Because you know, I'm not original or creative. Got a full stable with: Guinevere, Galahad, Lancelot and Tristan... Lancelot was going to be named "Austin Powers" originally, because goldmember (the horse have gold coat) but I got profanity on the name and I don't know why, btw anyone knows why would toggle the profanity? (I'm not a native english speaker, I don't see anything wrong with Austin Powers)

no clue on that one.  i know you can't name your horse Dumb sh*t,  i tried that with my original one lol.  Austin Powers triggering profanity huh?  that doesn't make any sense to me.

Anything to do with RDR2 getting called for profanity is a bit ironic.  There's some foul language in the game, no doubt, so anyone having issues with potty mouth really should be looking for Nintendo games and forums. 😇

I named my horse Jericho, because he was my all-time favorite companion in Fallout.

Since I am digging the old west, I can't see myself ever going back to the Wasteland now.

Desperado -  Missouri Fox trotter - lvl 4 - Main

Rosinante - Silver Turkoman - lvl 4 - Main when going to war.

River - Rose Arabian - lvl 3 - Fast but too skittish and too small.

Whiskey (of course) - Thoroughbred - lvl 4 - (Stolen from the lady that likes to race)  Because reasons.  

 

PS.  They should have allowed us to adopt a Dog too.  Could retrieve varmint and bird corpses for us.

I thought the same thing myself.

Though I feel guilty enough leaving my horse tied up outside the saloon overnight.  A dog would need much more attention.

I compromise by just praising every single dog I see.

My trusty Dutch Drafthorse hath been dubbed, "Arnold" (as in Schwarzenegger) because he's a big plodding beast who can run over a mule deer and kill it while laughing.

And my Arabian, I christened "Ghost".

I've been eyeing up another horse and have a few tentative names picked out, like Chest Rockwell.
