My lantern is GONE

Somewhere around chapter 4 I noticed that my lantern was completely missing. It's not on my horse, not in my satchel, not in any category of "items" listed anywhere. In short, it's completely missing.

Anyone else have this happen, or know what I can do about it? I haven't ventured into any dark caves for a long time, but I would like to eventually find those carvings, and I assume it will be a necessity.

It's not necessary for the carvings and only two of the dinosaur bones is it at all helpful (but not necessary).

Have you done the debt mission for Strauss getting money from Winton Holmes? I got mine back after doing that mission.

I thought too my lantern is gone but then i realized that its under the melee weapon slot where your knife is

Lantern Alternative -

There's a bounty hunter mission, think it's the one from Strawberry, you go up into an old mine north of Lake Owanjila.  After you do the bounty and take the guy to jail, return there and use the dynamite plunger on the left side of the mine entrance.  that will blow up the back wall of the mine and there's a miner's hat in there you can use.  I like it better than the lantern.

Pretty sure I looked there several times. I'll check again tonight, since I might just be crazy. 

I'm also pretty sure I used to see it somewhere when I opened my satchel with D-Pad-R. Or am I imagining that?

Huh. I could have sworn I tried to push that plunger, and concluded that it just didn't do anything. Maybe I just didn't try hard enough!

you have to do it after, can't do it during the mission.

 

I don't recall the lantern showing in the satchel, but then i've never really looked for it.  Maybe in the Kit satchel with the campfire and stuff?

My lantern got removed from the quick bar, but it was in the horse equipment window, I'm betting you lost it when you died, some times you randomly unequip an item in your quickbar when you die. Try checking your horse where the melee weapons should be, my lost lantern was there ready to be re-equiped... and follow Kormath advice, that thing is insanely more useful than the lantern, at least for me

As well as the miners hat and wide bladed knife from the mine, if you complete the Marko Dragic stranger storyline and return to his lab after the finale you can get an electric lantern.

Okay I was having the same problem, but I found it on my horse.  Similar to how you set your weapons.  It wasn’t in my inventory anywhere so I tried it on a whim cause why not. And sure enough it was there.

Check your inventory, your horse, and at your camp. I never actually lost anything I thought I did. It just got moved when I picked up new stuff and I didn't realize this till halfway through the game lol
