Is "Ghosting" a thing?

I fairly regularly see people 'phasing in and out' during a game, in the same way that people do when they've just spawned, are at the butcher, or ride the objective wagon into the quest completion zone.

Do we think that this is just a 'one of those things' glitch, or are people deliberately using some sort of exploit?  For all I know, I'm doing it too, and just don't know it.

It's very frustrating when in PvP someone runs round the corner, you're about to shoot them, the phase out, back in again and kill you.  I occasionally see it in free roam as well.

I don't want to be reporting people for cheating if it's just something that happens, e.g. due to a poor connection.  If it's an exploit, I don't want to know how to do it, but I'd like to know whether it exists as "a thing".

I see the same things and it looks like a cheat because happens in what seems like at a strategic moment and more in PVP. Haven't found much on it though and cannot confirm its not just a random issue.

It can occur when you try to exploit a glitch. But I have also seen it as an in game glitch as well.

I wonder if this is when the player attempts to quick join a showdown series from the in-game menu?

If you meet a posse that is running a mission and is nearing their drop off location, the vehicle and every member enters ghosting. It will then depend on distance but those posse members can easily troll you by not dropping of (usually there is allot of time to do this) and using this large ghosting area against you.

OP already mentioned he is aware of the mission drop off location ghosting to protect players delivering mission objectives.

I really don't think there are too many cheats in the game. I think it is more a less people finding glitches and using them for their own personal gain. I know some dudes tried getting me to go on some website to "buy cheats" but I was ignoring them and eventually just muted them.

Ghosting part 2...

With the arrival of the new showdown mode - spoils of war (which I really enjoy, BTW) , I have notice a new variation on the ghosting thing. Of course, in Spoils of War, once you've got a bag, not being targetable is a huge advantage.

On a number of occasions I have seen characters running around, picking up a bag and running back to their base with some serious glitching going on.

They are in deadeye, you can't target them, and their character looks 'fuzzy' not ghosting like someone in a store, but more like poor reception on on old fashioned TV.

If it wasn't for the visual effect, I would think that the non-targetability was to do with Slippery Bastard, although the time it lasts on some people - I've not actually timed it, but I've definitely seen 40+ seconds continuously, but I think there is something else going on.  Even with top tier slippery bastard, surely you can't last that long in deadeye, without at least stopping running to drink a snake oil or something.

A guy last night (level 240+) was in my game for 3 games, in which time he racked up 108 kills and zero deaths.  Feels like more than just good play.

Anyone else noticed this?

I have seen similar issue this weekend. Real high level not being able to be touched or tackled. He left after a couple games and didn't see him again. I should have remembered his name but don't.

Cheaters lag switching, Especially in PVP, others are faded out because of a glitch so they can hunt do missions & not be shot.

Yesterday running in a Posseteam. When I arrived for a new mission three members including Posseleader were faded out in blue. There were invisible in person. I waited for several minutes and suddenly they were normal blue and went on. It's a strange phenomenon.
