What do you do to celebrate the holidays?

I am speaking in regards to Thanksgiving and Christmas. I would imagine not everyone here is from the US so if you are not, just share what you do on Christmas.

For thanksgiving, this year we aren't doing much of anything which kind of sucks. I mean, I am normally not the family gathering kind of person but I was expecting to at least get together and do the normal family even we do each year. It will just end up being me, my girlfriend, and my immediate family minus my dad who has to work.

As for Christmas, I will be going to my grandparents early in the day and then spending the evening with my girl's family. I will be able to get two Christmas dinners this year so I am pretty excited about that.

This year, in Michigan, recreational marijuana sales starts Dec. 1. We will have some of  our old friends over for Christmas eve and set out some brownies and Santa gummies, play some Zepplin and Creedence and flashback 50 years to an old fashioned Christmas. (Or we will get extremely paranoid, hide in the basement and wait for the cops to kick in the door.)

Since we are all pretty old, we will be sure to keep some amyl nitrite poppers handy, just in case Santa or St. Peter should appear.

I love to spend holidays abroad with my kids. For over 3 years we've been to Spain, Italy, Thailand and Egypt. Actually, recently me and my wife decided to buy a place abroad and settle in. We are looking for a property in Hungary for a month and if we manage to find a suitable one we are going to leave the US.

Just the basic holiday gatherings with a dinner and desserts after. We used to have huge get togethers but as people got older, our older family members started passing away, everyone just started doing their own thing. Now it is usually just 10 of us for Thanksgiving and about the same for Christmas.

This year will be the first year that my family is kind of going to be split up. Some are going out of town, others moved earlier this year. It will just end up maybe being like 10 of us, if that coming together for Christmas. I don't mind it. We will be doing Christmas Eve with pizza and apps at my brother's and then we will be all at my parent's for Christmas Day for a family dinner. Oh, we open gifts on Christmas Eve as well.

Just the typical Christmas. Everyone gathers at grandma's and we have a dinner together. Gifts and what not are done after with extended family. Nothing too special. When I was a kid, my dad used to take me and my brother around to see the lights on Christmas Eve. I might do that with him this year just to be a kid again.

I had a massive heart attack and was practically dead for a bit on Thanksgiving some years ago.  Since then the wife gets pretty clingy around the holidays.  Thanksgiving depends on how we feel, sometimes we travel to visit family, some years we don't.  Christmas we take turns with different family as they are widely spread.  This year it's the father-in-law's house in Alabama. No kids, so Christmas isn't a big deal around our house.  Christmas is really for kids and family IMO.  Other than that, pretty much another day.  I am not much of one for decorating, but the wife does a bit.
