Hi,

if you enter a train, you have several actions: ring bell, use whistle, brake, accelerate.

I found a video:

In this video, there is an additional action: switch tracks.

Anyone know, how I can activate this action?

My guess would be a PC mod. I don't think you can even drive trains outside of certain missions, because when I jump up in the cab of one during free roam, there's no prompt to take control.

Like Parzival mention, you can't take control of the train at least not without mods, and not yet. Maybe they will add this in the future. I would say to ask them but it takes forever for Rockstar to respond now.

......you can operate trains in Free Roam....at least on console.  I've never noticed an option to switch tracks although perhaps that only appears where appropriate?

yeah, i found some o'driscolls robbing a train near valentine. after killing them, i hopped on and did one full loop around the map, and no bounty, nothing. but yeah, the option to choose which way to go would be nice. I play on PS4.

Yes, you can drive a train in single-player mode.  Doing this is the easiest way of getting the Sharpshooter 3 challenge (shoot 5 flying birds from a moving train).

Correct, in single player it's possible to control trains.

Wait on a track for a train.
Then jump on the train and kick off the engineer.
Now you have the actions accelerate, brake, ring bell and use whistle.

But in the video, there is an additional action to switch tracks:

I honestly had no idea this was an option. I remember seeing someone mention it on Reddit or in YouTube comments, can't remember where, but they said you can't control the train so I never bothered with it.

For everyone who still wants to know, it's the new mod Railroad Engineer:
