  3. Whenever we first hop into a new highly anticipated game, we let ourselves be swept up by the experience. Having waited so long, we bet most Red Dead Redemption 2 fans are eager to get acquainted with the game as quickly as possible. However, this is a game that doesn't do a lot of handholding, and some systems simply aren't explained. While you'll get the hang of these mechanics with time, there are a few things best known before or when you start playing. Note: These tips are completely spoiler-free. We're only focusing on gameplay elements and mechanics you should know about from the start. Take Your Time First, let's tackle the mindset with which you go into the game with in the first place. Some games are really fast-paced and almost outright require you to rush to complete objectives as quickly a possible. Red Dead Redemption 2 is not such a game. Even more so than its predecessor and much more so than GTA, this game is to be savored like good wine not downed like a shot. Many of the game's systems and mechanics encourage you to ease into a steady pace of play where you take your time to explore, to learn, to understand and to take in everything that is happening. However, if you end up trying to rush with progress, you'll end up souring the experience. While there never is 'one right way' to play any game, there are wrong ways, and in this case trying to fast-track your game sessions is definitely the second. How to Upgrade Cores Red Dead Redemption 2's core system is a tad complex, and isn't really explained in-game. In fact, this is something we dedicate a whole guide to in and of itself which goes into greater detail. Basically, your cores are Health, Stamina and Dead-Eye. These are three little circles above the mini-map and the filled outline represents the amount of each. To upgrade these, which you will definitely want to do, you need to "use" them. It's a bit like real life, you need to use your muscles to strengthen them. With Dead-Eye and Stamina, this works easily. Just often perform stamina-consuming acts like sprinting and occasionally you'll get small Stamina upgrades. Same for Dead-Eye - just use it and it will be upgraded. Health is a different matter, since "using" it doesn't work. You can't get shot by lawmen or get mauled by bears and end up healthier than before. Cores also passively drain over time adding a kind of survival mechanic, as these are separate from your actual bars. You need to eat occasionally to prevent your health core from draining completely. This is what you can use to upgrade them. For a more comprehensive look at Cores, check out our guide (coming soon). Always Loot You can loot a lot of things in Red Dead Redemption 2. We suggest you do. Loot everyone, loot everything. If you adhere to this, you'll likely always have enough money, ammo and supplies throughout the game. Little dark crosses mark lootable items on your minimap, which become lighter and greyed out once looted. X marks the spot, and never ignore the X. Check Your Log Often Pressing left on your D-Pad will open your log, which tracks all of your non-mission activities. If you want to avoid grinding these activities later on, occasionally open your log to check what objective happen to be nearby. Completing them organically while on your way to other goals will make things more fun. Refill Dead-Eye With Chewing Tobacco Health and stamina regenerates on its own, but Dead-Eye does not. You need to pay attention to keeping it filled before encounters. Shooting enemies adds small amounts of fill, but the best and quickest way is by using chewing tobacco. It's a common loot item that goes into your consumables, so you should have pockets full of the stuff if you follow our looting tip. Use Your Bandana If you find yourself in the mood for a bit of premeditated criminal activity in Red Dead Redemption 2, make sure to wear a bandana. This doesn't have any negative effects, but it does hide your identity meaning what you do won't get bounty hunters sent after you. Local lawmen will still chase you if you are caught in the act, however they won't know that Arthur Morgan did the dirty deed, thus keeping your notoriety from increasing. Check out our other guides to learn more about how the game works. The post Red Dead Redemption 2 Tips For Beginners appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story

  6. I found the horse riding to be over bearing once I discovered and unlocked the stagecoach. Once I started using the stagecoach, traveling for me was a breeze. Riding across the world is a pain and takes time, with the stagecoach, your across the world instantly for a small price. Yeah, traveling is a big part of the game, as technology and transportation was very limited back then, but at least we have the option to travel city to city fast, so you don't have to ride across the entire world.

  9. Truly. So much going on out of the trail. I was just thinking, man, that ride to Blackwater to rescue Sean was quite a jog from valentine. Its gonna be nuts riding all over the map with 1 horsepower.

  10. I love this game. It's easily the most immersive game I've ever played. That said, it's sorely lacking in human companionship outside of missions. You can't bring followers with you in free roam. You can't have conversations outside of quick blips at camp, and you can't visit a brothel. What bothers me, is that these were all things that GTA5 had figured out 5 years ago. At any point you could call up any of the protagonists and even side characters (like Amanda, Jimmy or Lamar) and drive around talking and doing activities. There was never a point in that game where the city felt empty. And yet... I find myself in this beautiful landscape, only ever able to briefly greet or bully people, and 99% of the time at camp I have no real interaction with the gang members. Only during special pre-scripted moments after select missions are they doing campfires and singing songs. They recorded half a million lines of dialogue, a few more wouldn't have been unthinkable. Giving us the option to take John out to the local saloon, or take Dutch out robbing a storefront, or Charles out hunting -- even if there weren't lots of lines of dialogue. Just having a buddy next to us to make the world feel less lonely. I won't even get started on the brothels again. Some members of your gang see prostitutes, some members of your gang ARE prostitutes, "whores" are mentioned every five minutes when talking about an infamous city or rival gangs, and every prostitute in the game asks you for your company and your only option is to reject or decline. It's actually kinda frustrating. Actually at camp after one of the missions they were singing "I'm a poor lonesome cowboy" and I couldn't decide wether it was funny or if the loneliness was intentionally designed to drive the plot in some way.

  11. Has anyone found out it you can buy a cart for your horse? One to keep so you dont have to steal one and then it dissapear moments later. This would absolutely make my life! Would love to be strolling round in one of those two man carts with a little roof while it's raining, lantern in hand, searching for a god camping spot 😍

  14. It’s not the graphics it’s the HDR in game if your playing on a ps4 pro or one x others have noticed the blurry gameplay and it’s caused by HDR if you have an HDR compatible TV turn it off for now until Rockstar finds a patch

  15. Anyone else having this problem? Especially mountains and trees are flickering all the time. At first i thought it was the snow, but apparently not. Check the video: https://streamable.com/5e53g It's really bothering me to fully enjoy the game. Any ideas? Thanks guys! PS: I have a ps4 500GB, bought shortly after release, so it's not 'new'. Tried playing with brightness and sharpness and even color blind settings, but no effect.

  17. Gotta admit this is a huge let down, I was being sweet to one of the girls with the idea that a Romance might play out and who knows maybe i would be able to marry her, Im actually surprise to hear they didnt allow it since John was a married man banging everyone and Arthur is a single loner dude.

  18. Yeah, that's understandable. Most of us grew up with Star Wars, you have people that were teenagers or little kids going to see the originals when they came out, or you have this generations youth growing up watching Star Wars. In my case, Star Wars has been apart of me when I was growing up, and I still like them today, as I'm 20 years young. I guess it's a sense of nostalgia in a way, and brings back lots of memories when I was kid, watching all the movies, playing all the Star Wars games on the PS2, and playing with action figures when I was a young one.

  19. Usually game developers fool the gamer with their mistakes with graphics. NOT ME! I SEE RIGHT THROUGH IT. Haha, but no seriously, my main thing isn't the graphics, it's mainly gameplay and the story. I love the story and gameplay so far, and I have definitely recognize the graphics. ITS PURE EYE CANDY. Which is why I think this game deserves game of the year. Plays good, story is good so far, and it looks good. The most key elements in a game, and most games come half way. It should go story, gameplay, graphics. In that specific order. If the gameplay is sh*t, and the graphics are sh*t, AT THE VERY LEAST MAKE IT HAVE A GOOD STORY!

  20. Sorry if my first post in this forum is about Sex in RDR2 but it was this thread which led me here. I wanted to say something regarding this topic and so i registered. I don't see a problem in not having sex in the game. Sure i would be happy if there was this option but it's a great game...with or without sex. The problem for me is that i get offered sex in every saloon and hotel. Every Prostitute in the game wants to have a fun time with me and my only 2 Options are decline and....i dont know the english word but declining in a rude way. So when there is no need for sex why is there even an option to answer these kind of offers? That's kind of cruel.

  22. I was going to come on here to ask the same question. My horse got taken too and it isn't in my stable anymore. I am a bit confused as to what I should be doing here. Is there like a waiting period or do I have to hunt down the mf'er that took my horse? lol

  23. Hey Joey, welcome to the forum. I am still hoping it comes out for PC too. I actually only have a console for like a handful of games, RDR2 being one of them. I prefer PC gaming all around but I couldn't play the wait and see for games like this one. That is pretty cool, making decals. What are the decals for?

  24. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Not 'fast traveling' everywhere at a moment's notice is part of its charm and reward. Your horse isn't nearby? That's because it isn't, so you have to walk. Enjoy the world, pick the flowers.

  25. Well, I read somewhere the current trilogy, was written to give closer to Han, Luke, and Leia. Their swan song if you will. While doing that they was going to take the time to build up the next generation of heroes and villians. So far, I haven't seen any of them I like. No heroes I find worth rooting for and no villains that you want to hate. Everyone liked Han, Luke, and Leia. Everyone loved hating Darth Vader. You think about it, the Empire's success was on him. Emperor sat back in the shadows. The Imperial navy really waited for Vader to constantly pull them out of every situation.

  26. Love that you can find Star Wars fans anywhere you go. My favorite character is Darth Vader and favorite movie is Empire Strikes Back. Also like Rogue One, love watching the end. Watching Yoda show Luke he was full of sh*t by lifting the X-Wing in Empire originally got me interested (think it was the first scene I ever saw, got fascinated by the idea of the Force). There were things I liked, others that I didn't about Last Jedi. Didn't like what they did with Luke and Leia. Would love to see more original characters make appearances, maybe make a stand alone where the New Republic isn't established yet and the Alliance is hunting down Imperial remnants while setting up the new government. Would probably need to use actor's in prosthetic makeup like they did for Tarkin at the end of Revenge of the Sith for some of the original characters for that movie idea. Really excited to see what they do with the Boba Fett and young (possibly padawan, but I hear it's early Jedi days) Yoda movies I've heard are planned.

  27. Like others, it's not something I really need in the game, but would make sense to have it. A lot of outlaws are usually depicted frequenting brothels, and since it was in GTA, if Rockstar is going for realism, it seems odd that they would leave it out. It could still come late in some DLC.

  28. Hey there, folks. I know we’re all quite jazzed about the game releasing soon, and it’s going to be awesome! Once it does, we’re expecting this forum to get rather busy with lots and lots of talk about the game, its ins-and-outs, and the best/worst things about it. HOWEVER, it should also be considered that many of our forum members will be either unwilling or downright unable to buy the game at its release price. So, they may choose to spend the meantime watching online play videos and reading up on strategies and multiplayer stories here on the forums until they can get their hands on a copy. All this being said – you ARE free to TALK about ANYTHING YOU WANT about the game on this forum. HOWEVER, you CANNOT post any SPOILER VIDEO FOOTAGE. AT ALL. Also: If you're going to MENTION (in text) STORY MODE OR OTHER SPOILERS, our only request is that you use a handy-dandy tool we have here called the SPOILER tool. Here’s a helpful GIF to show you how it works: That’s how you do it. Basically, anything you write about that spoils anything of RDR2, please use this filter. This way, ANYONE can read your posts and still not get the intricacies spoiled. But what exactly IS a “spoiler,” you ask? Spoilers are reveals in the storyline or other important information about the game with dramatic effect. For example: “In story mode, you start with a pistol and six bullets.” – That’s not really a spoiler. That’s more of a gameplay dynamic. No hearts should be broken by learning THIS info on the forums. “Wow! It makes so much sense that Dutch was secretly in love with Abigail before Marston won her heart!” – THAT, friends, is a spoiler. (and a made-up example. I have no clue what happens in this game.) Remember, this applies to posts AND comments! If you click-open a spoiler and want to reply with the same (or another) spoiler, you’ll need to also use the Spoiler tool. So, you have the discernment, you have the tools, and you have the talent. With this neato tool, we give you the freedom to write anything you like without taking anything away from others. As of this posting, this rule is in effect. As the game ages, we may choose to rescind it at a later date – ‘cause, by a certain time, if you STILL haven’t played the game, that’s on you, chief. Sorry ‘bout it. IN THE MEANTIME, we have to impose some regulations: IF YOU encounter a spoiler irresponsibly posted by another forum member, please use the “Report Post” button IMMEDIATELY, and we will address it. We DO understand there may be a slip-up on this policy. If you realize you accidentally posted a story mode spoiler, please Edit the post and use the Spoiler tool. Now, we gotta get into the heavy stuff: If it is found by a moderator that you posted a spoiler without using the tool, or an uncovered spoiler you posted is reported to us, your post WILL be edited or deleted, and the following will occur: First offense: public shaming in the thread by a moderator or admin - NO warning points issued Second offense: public shaming in the thread by a moderator or admin AND warning points issued, as well as a possible temp-ban from the forums Third offense: further warning points will be issued, along with a temp or possible permaban from the forums So, let’s all enjoy playing this game, talking about this game, and the forums. Just use the Spoiler tool, and all will be right with the world. Adios, - Skunk

  29. Personally, I could care less how they get it done. "Crunching" is simply a part of life in most of the gaming industry but it's usually select departments or people who are there for the final push in the last couple of weeks (not throughout development). This also isn't some third world country where people can be treated as slaves. There are rules, laws and choice. I worked for a large corporation for 30 years and in various industries like mine was they do the same thing to push out product for end of month sales, reconciling budgets / accounting, inventory, meet project deadlines, etc., etc. and a lot of times that is on a consistent monthly and/or quarterly basis. ......I'm sure these these folks would wish it was a once every few year deal. I've been on the receiving end myself back in the day but it was a good paying job with good benefits, good people and room to grow. If it hadn't have been, I would have been looking for other employment. Either way, I know some will choose not to accept any explanation R* provides but Dan Houser mentioned what he was talking about was mostly about his senior writing staff (including himself) during the last 3 weeks. .....and that it was not something he expected from everyone else: I have no reason to disbelieve him and R* as given it's employees approval to talk about the working conditions with anyone who reaches out to them (which some already have with positive and some negative feedback). Having said that, not all employees in a large company like that will be treated the same depending on their own managers, directors & VPs and opinions about their situation/ experience will vary. Some bosses are simply jerks while others are just the opposite. .....that's true in any large business. I've worked for all types to be honest and while some can make your life hell, others can make it a real pleasure. ......and this was all under the same roof. .....but whatever makes a good story I guess. I just want the game. EDIT: Seems my posts were merged..... The following is in response to the OPs original point that the writing is still in process for RDO and has nothing to do with the above discussion about "crunches", etc.: Here is a link to the source article from Vulture. It's hard to tell when Hauser made the quote about still writing for RDO but it may have been back in August if you follow the timeline of the article. .....I didn't read the whole thing. http://www.vulture.com/2018/10/the-making-of-rockstar-games-red-dead-redemption-2.html
