Do you have the Legendary Buck trinket? That upgrades the hide/carcass a star. so a 2 star should be a 3 star. I've seen it not upgrade, so maybe it's a percentage or something for the trinket? I've been doing the hunting requests for the art exhibit, shooting rats, squirrels, rabbits, possum, etc. with the specified weapon, if i didn't do a headshot, or a vital organ shot, it would drop the rating. Maybe your body shot hit a vital organ? I've done that with Deer and such when i can't get a headshot, and how i know a body shot will drop the rating even with the specified weapon. and that's why i love the trinket. You can shoot the small birds with the varmint rifle, and still end up with a perfect carcass, i have yet to see it not upgrade a songbird carcass.

i hate playing the "numbers" dominoes. Go to Emerald Station, they play what we call "straight" dominoes. doesn't matter what numbers are on the ends, you go domino to win, and get the opponents points from their remaining pips.

Not true. Shoot a perfect rabbit in the side with the varmint rifle, you get a 2 star hide, done this hundreds of times. If you have the Legendary Buck trinket, then you can shoot them wherever with the recommended weapon, and 2 star may be perfect. I have had animals that did not get upgraded by the trinket though, so that's not a guarantee. I've shot 2 star ducks, rabbits, etc. in the head with the varmint rifle and they were not upgraded to 3 star. Glitch maybe? Only animals that don't matter what gun/ammo you use are the Legendary.

you might be right. I went home a bit ago at lunch to look at my progress. My attempt on this last night didn't succeed. Must have been something else popping up in the notification box as i died.

always wear the bandanna when doing anything criminally related if you don't want a bounty or red honor points. Witnesses won't know who you are, they just report the crime (unless you haven't changed clothes and are doing criminal activities repeatedly in the same area). I just finished bandit mission @Volt is talking about.

just with a map glitch, but that would be flying over the edge after the horse hit an invisible object. If you just try to ride off the edge the horse stops, keep trying to make it and he eventually bucks you off. I've used cinematic mode numerous times without these issues. Never tried it near a cliff though, might have to get my old stupid horse from the stable missions and try riding off the cliff this way. Knowing my luck it would glitch out and kill my main horse. so maybe not.

I found a trick when i did this the first time. restored my game a while back to get my horse back and i'm on this same challenge now. You'll know if he's an enemy, it won't register distance on people who aren't enemies.

Headshots are best, they won't damage the hide unless you use the wrong weapon. Study the animal, or if you've already studied it, press RB/R1 to show the info on it, or look in the compendium. It will tell you what weapon(s) to use. Legendary Buck Trinket helps also. It has a chance to upgrade the hide. Works almost every time on small animals, but large animals like elk and such it's not a guarantee from what I've seen.

I skip looting, depending on when and where i am. You get bounties for looting innocents if there are witnesses. Out in the wild i loot everyone and kill the witnesses, can't do that so easily in town, just makes more witness and more crimes you commit and higher bounties.

Birds aren't attracted to bait. You're just wasting it. Challenges aren't meant to do all at once. Gambling ones aren't that hard.

12 hours broken up over 3 days, couple hours hunting, then off to do challenges or explore then hunt for a couple more. This is just my dumb luck, took me 2 hours just to find a stinkin badger, and the first 4 or 5 of those i saw were all 1 star. The trinket doesn't always bump a large animal from 2 star to perfect. I've had numerous 2 star kills that were still 2 star hides. Small animals like the squirrels and birds it almost always gives you a perfect on a 2 star kill.

The services you buy at the stable give you a yellow core so it won't drain for a full day. I do that and then use the stimulants to give you the yellow ring doing the time challenges.

never had this problem, unless you're in a mission, that's outside the "real world". I spend most of my time hunting and exploring, time doesn't change, takes the same amount of real time to go from sunrise to sunset.

Same thing i was wondering. Never had a problem with the Lenny mission, done it twice now after forgetting to save and having to restore for something else, haven't gotten to Dutch's mission yet. I like to ignore him when he calls my name in camp.

that's how i did it. and i'm only in chapter 3 ran from lawmen all the way from the border to Blackwater. Get a better horse, use stimulants, avoid mud/rain/etc.

Do the restore. you get more game time that way and save often!

agreed, the gold stars for the missions are something to try for after you've completed the game and the content. Headshots are simple doing it this way. Learned this trick in RDR.

You have a trick to make the game spawn a 3 star wolf, or any other animal? I'd love to have it. 12 hours and the best I could find was 2 star. Just now went to hanging dog ranch, camped to the east till evening, road around a bit, ran away from a grizzly, down towards the creek. 3 perfect wolves jump me, dropped 2 but messed up the shot on the third. Finally got the pelts for the legend satchel.
