Please start or continue to send feedback to R*!
Netnow66 replied to jnaron_ngc's topic in Red Dead Online
These are my opinions, don't shoot (like the numbers of griefers Rockstar continues to support do...) Though I tend to be very cynical toward Rockstar at this point, I have to admit there have been some things done to alleviate griefing, my biggest issue with this game. I and others gave feedback to avoid being griefed and I believe little was actually done. After sending in my feedback just about daily, I'm a little feedbacked out personally so I do it sparingly, if at all, now. Not only does the blip system not help me, it does more harm than good. However, the ability to fast travel with my hunting carcasses actually does (my biggest issue now is remembering to get off of my horse when I do it because I believe that degrades the quality of carcasses). I find that ability to be the most helpful thing Rockstar actually did. But I and others continue to get popped by griefers, something actually encouraged by some of Rockstar's dailies. I've linked an article that is representative of how some actually feel and how some in the media are viewing Rockstar. https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-02-28-red-dead-onlines-update-fails-to-solve-the-griefing-problem So, I'm not going to tell anyone that sending in feedback doesn't help. I am going to say that in my opinion Rockstar isn't listening to its customers as much as other developers I've been familiar with in the past. The uproar from gamers across the web when it comes to griefing has basically been ignored causing many gamers to use unofficial means to ensure they can play safely. It is worth it to some of these gamers to potentially risk Rockstar's punishment (because no one knows what, if anything, Rockstar will do), even though that isn't the way that some of them wish to play. -
How can you say what or when I did or didn't see info on the online component? Here's just one of the many articles I read where the online multiplayer was being discussed. The online component was no surprise to those who keep up with the gaming scene. I had absolutely no interest in the offline component of this game, my interest was only in the online. Always. https://gamerant.com/red-dead-redemption-2-online/ https://www.cgmagonline.com/2016/10/21/red-dead-redemption-2-will-get-early-access-online-content-ps4/ https://www.wired.com/2016/10/red-dead-redemption-2-rockstar-future/ As far as "challenging" other players, that reference could have been to just about anything, from outracing to even outfishing and outhunting when the dailies are considered, hence the "Create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style..." Everyone's "play style" doesn't have to be PvP combat in a rich game such as this that's full of so much to do.

"not the online beta"? Opinions are one thing--facts are quite another. Please check the links below that directly refer to the online beta. You will find the comments I quoted on those pages. https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60711/Red-Dead-Online-Beta

If Rockstar had advertised Red Dead Online as a "pvp based game," I never would have purchased it. If that's an official description, exactly where did you see it? And why would Rockstar say they want to institute anti griefing methods? What I did see Rockstar advertise was "We also ask for your help in keeping Red Dead Online a fun and fair environment for everyone. Please use the in-game reporting tools to report any abusive behavior..." and "Create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience. Explore the world solo or with friends. "

I just admitted in Rockstar feedback what I've unofficially been doing and why, and will continue to do, to play the game most times. With the number of people who are still glitching to get into passive mode, it's beyond me why Rockstar just won't officially enable it.
-
8 March 2019...the new lobby glitch spreads across YouTube, just in time for the weekend. I wonder if Rockstar will leave this one alone as long as there are no item dupes going on. It's obvious to most that many players will go the extra mile to avoid playing with griefers, at least during some times of their gameplay. It's kind of ridiculous that this continues to take place, in my opinion.
-
Trust me, this is one of the friendlier forums out here for people who express sentiments such as yours...or should I say, ours. If it weren't I wouldn't be here, at least not as often. I've also submitted feedback similar to yours to Rockstar, so I guess we'll see if they choose to be helpful or not. Someone said awhile back that when some datamining of Red Dead Online was done, "passive mode" was in the content, so I'm pretty sure it's officially coming at some point. I didn't know the unofficial way had been patched. Sad news for me.
-
Actually, I agree. And I edited my earlier post right after I posted so that there would be no confusion about me considering it griefing, at least officially, since it's built into the game. Personally, I take any unwanted killing of me as griefing. Do I report it like spawn killing and backshooting? No. Not much I disagree with here. Your use of the word unsavory is what interested me because my take on it is different. Because, as you said, I would just leave if targeted or ignore the mission if it was given to me.
-
You mention overcoming an adversary. What joy is there in defeating an adversary that wants nothing to do with the process? What challenge or thrill is there when your target doesn't want any part of this? And my definition of griefing is being killed if the combat isn't mutual. Killing me impedes my progress.
-
So my squatting down doesn't make me invisible to my assassin? I didn't know that. While I can assure you that the Rockstar servers are still unintentionally dropping people into private servers, I don't find it unsavory that some are are intentionally doing it. While I do agree assassinations are part of the game, just as spawn killing, backshooting and certain forms of griefing...well, I'll just state again, I don't find it unsavory. And I didn't call him a griefer. But if I hadn't been glitched, I would have jumped servers before I let him track me down. Server jumping is something that I do frequently and has accounted for my glitching on occasion.
-
Toxic is the word for it. To my surprise, when I was targeted for assassination, I was fishing. All I do in free roam is hunt and fish. My only adversarial activities in this game occur when I go into the quick online missions or when some griefer targets me. Even then, I don't fight back, so I was really at a loss as to why I was targeted. Does anyone know what triggers it? Fortunately for me, Rockstar's unstable servers had dropped my into a private lobby at the time, so when the notice popped up, I panicked--initially. But I just stopped moving and hit L3 to take me off the map. Even so, all of a sudden I saw this character's blip coming toward me. How can he track me if I'm supposedly off the map? It turned out well for me because I could almost hear/see the guy scratching his head as his blip walked all around and then, eventually, right on top of mine. He eventually rode off empty handed, thwarted by Rockstar's servers. Works for me...
-
Right now, I'm testing dual Volcanics, though I'm pretty sure I'm going to go back to dual Semi Automatic pistols. I prefer to use the Carcano when clearing out enemy camps but the Rolling Block for hunting. I prefer the Pump Shotgun to the Repeating one. I'm not sure what rank the more interesting ammo kicks in. The only card I've invested in is Strange Medicine. Rank 15 weapons don't cut it for me as a rank 50 something player. No reason for me to tie one hand behind my back when I play, even if it is in PvE style playing.
-
Ah, griefers...if I remember, my very first feedback to Rockstar had to do with why when I'm fishing, I'm basically standing there with a fishing rod in my hand, no map for me to see, totally defenseless. It's like my pants are down around my ankles and I can't even move to protect myself. Why, when in that mode, don't I have camp-like protection? Even when I'm hunting, I at least can be aware of my map and surroundings and I have a gun in hand. But fishing? I find myself to be totally vulnerable in that mode--and I find no reason to let griefers attack me then. If camp is supposed to offer protection (though it really doesn't...), why not when I'm fishing? Why should every griefer in the game be able to one shot me in that mode? I could even see mutual combat in free roam, the way the Old West was before the ways of the East settled in. But that's mutual. Not griefing bullies taking advantage of players when they're trying to go to the butcher. Many griefers say they want to live free and pot shot people "the way they did in the Old West," but they want to do it with little or no consequences. What's the going rate for murdering someone in Red Dead Online, $2? Sure, grief the way you want with little or no consequences--but that's not what happened in the Old West. Spawn killing and back shooting while fishing or hunting populate this game--but Rockstar has actual modes in this game that highlight the shoot 'em up portions of the Old West that I want. It also has missions that I enjoy and want more of (and I'm still trying to figure out why one of them was deleted). Some sneaky griefer who pops me while spawning in or fishing or at the butcher isn't worth my time. That's why I just take the death, report, block, then send their name to Rockstar in my feedback asking them why they are allowing this to go on. Now to the real reason I posted here--I personally don't want a murder-free roam (though I am tired of the griefing in this game) but I do want to rank up my character and get money. I try to gain XP and money because the best weapons and equipment are locked behind level and cash locks. That's why I built my character up, along with ranking up to get better hunting weapons and ammo. Hell, you even have to be a certain level to fish, right? What weapon should I use on that grizzly bear? I certainly don't use any of the beginner weapons. The only thing I felt might be worth a gold purchase is that fast travel hitch in my camp--but I'm rank 54 now, so I figure I'll just grind it out--and I can do that because I did rank up and have ranked weapons and ammo to do that. XP and money are needed to do most things in this game efficiently. I also enjoy taking down bandit camps, something I wouldn't risk without ranked up weapons and ammunition. Sure, Mrs. LeClerk finishes Teddy off, but I want to help get rid of his boys and put him in that weakened condition for her. I can do that because I have ranked up and have the materials to do that.

Though I did play GTA, I never brought expectations of "fun and fair environment" with me when I did. But, even so, if I remember correctly, I played in a private lobby or something, I believe? I don't know if Rockstar cares what happens in Red Dead Online or not. From my viewpoint, I lean toward your assessment of the situation. But their quoted material says otherwise. If they don't care, they should outright say it. Though I can appreciate your taking the time, you can't really speak for Rockstar. What I'm saying is, if Rockstar shares your opinion, they should state it so that the community knows what to expect. What Rockstar did say is this: "We also ask for your help in keeping Red Dead Online a fun and fair environment for everyone. Please use the in-game reporting tools to report any abusive behavior..." and "Explore the world solo or with friends." https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60711/Red-Dead-Online-Beta So, I can either take your comments about what you think Rockstar wants or I can take quoted material from Rockstar itself. Back to what I've been saying: Rockstar needs to come clean about the game they want us to play and code the game so that it is delivered. I know for a fact that passive lobbies that allow us to hunt and fish are easily achieved. Why Rockstar won't let us officially use them makes no sense to me, though some have said that Passive Mode or something similar was found in datamined content. Maybe they're holding off for official release after beta?
-
Again, it comes back to what Rockstar wants in their game. If you kill me and it was unprovoked, I view that as griefing. What I'm hearing from some is that "It's okay if they kill you once, as long as they don't KEEP killing you." To me, it's griefing if you do it once. You feel that someone should have to "even ask me to leave them be"? (Though you said "ask" I initially typed "beg" instead of "ask" because I pretty much see that as the same thing.) Sorry, I don't think that's appropriate. But Rockstar needs to be clearer about what their game is to be. I certainly didn't buy a game where I considered a "fun and fair environment" would be one where I would have to beg--sorry, ask--for someone not to shoot me when I'm minding my own business. There are plenty of games that manage to easily accomplish this and they've done it for years. Again, it goes back to Rockstar being honest about what this game/beta is supposed to be.

While I play just about all of the quality titles (I play on the three consoles and PC), I believe the games that I play the most are multiplayer as in the Battlefields, The Division, FFXIV, Guild Wars 2, etc. But there are actual rules that keep gameplay in check. For instance, since I purchased Red Dead Online on the Pro, I've blocked over 100 people on PSN. I don't believe I had blocked anyone previously. I solo in all those games because I'm also not the most social of people and I will drop the controller/keyboard in a second if something in real life occurs so I wouldn't want to screw up a team that was relying on me (oddly enough, those blocked people on PSN I would love to encounter adversarially in the Battlefield games). Oh, and for those of you who will understand this, I've never been in the Dark Zone. My worst experience with the blip system occurred when I was half watching the map and seeing nothing as I decided to go from Tumbleweed to Valentine, I believe. I kept checking. seeing nothing, checking, seeing nothing, checking, seeing nothing. I guess I got lulled into a false feeling of security (and that is the only thing the blip system does in my opinion) because all of a sudden there was someone going the other way on the road taking shots at me. Instinctively, I sped up and was able to get away and I took that as a win. Typically, I don't run, I just take the death, report the person, block the person and then send Rockstar feedback with the person's name telling them how I was minding my own business and ask them what they are doing to ensure I can play in a "fun and fair environment" where Rockstar also said I could solo.

For me, the problem isn't multiplayer games, it's multiplayer games with lazy coding or less than honest developers. For me, this is a given: I expect for some players to take advantage of whatever they can and to be (what I consider) less than honorable. Unfortunately, I see it as human nature. But that's where the developers come in. It's up to them to either code their game correctly and to be honest to the gaming community about what they want their game to be. If Rockstar wants griefers, that's fine. But then don't turn around and tell us they are instituting anti griefing methods. Their promotional materials say Red Dead Online is supposed to be "a fun and fair environment for everyone. Please use the in-game reporting tools to report any abusive behavior..." Yet their efforts to stop what I consider "abusive behavior" and to keep the environment "fun and fair for everyone" are pathetic so far (again, my opinion). Yes, it's some of our fellow gamers who are doing what they can to ruin the experience for others but the fault ultimately lies with Rockstar. They shouldn't promise one thing and then take no steps to guarantee what they promised. (Sorry, but those blips equal absolutely nothing for me.)
-
There is obviously confusion here and it's being caused by Rockstar. All they would have to do is say, our game allows griefing. Period. Then I would personally have nothing to report. But Rockstar didn't do that. They keep saying,"we are going to implement anti griefing measures." So something supposedly allowed in the game by design is supposedly being curtailed by them (well, at least that's what they say--I don't believe it). My point is, you either want to allow griefing or you don't. If you want to allow it, stop all the lies and just admit it. If you want to stop it, put some measures in with some real teeth. Rockstar needs to be honest, just like that other Wild West game, just like Black Desert Online. That's my problem with them right now. I'm sending in my last bit of feedback either today or tomorrow (describing how I've still been attacked while minding my own business). I sometimes submitted two or three a a day before the update, explaining how I was getting spawn killed or sniped while fishing or on the way to the butcher and included player names (I had already reported and blocked them). After the update, I find their new anti griefing methods to be a joke and I've decided I'm not going to keep sending in feedback with my complaints about this because I almost feel like I'm begging. I'll still log on to do the quick missions which I do enjoy (why did they take one away?!?! They need to add more!!) or hope for the occasional solo lobby glitch but as far as me leisurely roaming and hunting and fishing (which I say their promotional materials said I was going to be able to do), I'm pretty much done with it in the shape the game is right now. Sorry, but having to sneak around a game to avoid other players isn't the way my time should be spent.
-
My only complaint with the game was the griefing. And I don't see anything (of yet) that was done to help alleviate that. I was shot at and then trampled and shot at so far. I made the mistake of escaping on my horse in the first incident. I usually take the death, report the player, block the player, then send Rockstar his name in the feedback suggestion where I mention that I want official passive lobbies (or PvE servers). The second time, my group of four spawned in each others' laps after finishing "Kill Them All..." We all whistled for our horses. I got distracted and by the time I looked up, one of my team mates knocked me over with his horse and was taking shots at me. Another player rammed his horse into my assailant's horse then shot and killed him. Before I could even emote some kind of thanks, he just rode off. Yes, new update, business as usual.
-
Here's the update page link. https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60864/Red-Dead-Online-Beta-Update-Out-Now https://support.rockstargames.com/articles/360018964193/RDR2-Title-Update-1-06-PS4-Xbox-One As my issues with the game are only with griefing, I can't say I'm happy with what was delivered. As expected, your plans to visit the butcher or a specific hunting/fishing spot can't be plotted as easily as before because you don't know if anyone is around (from far away). I do plan on making some purchases I was holding off on though.
-
The Jawbone Knife is at the fence in Rhodes for $105. I don't really do a lot of melee so I didn't purchase...yet. Still waiting to see the update notes.
-
Yeah, I can't find that Evans repeater weapon or knife either. I just remembered to check with a fence. I'm going there next. I'm not purchasing anything until I can see the update notes, just in case something there is mentioned that may be of importance.
-
What is the most you have received in one? I've only just done the first 10 and the most gold I received was .95. The most money $144.29 (I received gold and money in all). I expected more gold.

Ever been attacked by Semi invisible players?
Netnow66 replied to Dissention's topic in Troubleshooting
Yes, I have yet to experience a time when I have/have seen anyone interact with other players while using the phase glitch, so I can only assume there is another glitch at play that allowed the original poster to be pummeled. As far as Rockstar patching it, you're probably correct and some using it are taking full advantage before the 26th. I was holding on to 10 treasure maps I got from leveling but I collected them all today. -
I'm still hoping for "We also ask for your help in keeping Red Dead Online a fun and fair environment for everyone" and "Explore the world solo or with friends," comments from their own materials to promote the game to everyone. Or it might just be a matter of when since we're STILL IN BETA.
