I definitely agree the protection should be upped for defensive mode. The way it was advertised made it sound like you would survive an initial shot... but I think they just meant ‘critical’ hits, such as a head shot, not massive damage as from a close range shotgun blast or an explosion. But I stand by my belief that we need some conflict in this game, I just want it all to make sense. Reasons, motives, systems to keep it from getting out of hand... I’ve said it all before.

In my opinion, not including any Native American content based on it being a somewhat touchy subject due to the history of the time period makes about as much sense as not including any content for black people due to the atrocious state of civil rights during the post war era. Or not including any oriental content due to the state of affairs with the whole Chinese exclusion act. Maybe we should avoid content centred on female characters because let’s face it, women Didn’t have things so good at this point in history... The reality is a lot of nasty things were going on during this period of history in the new world. If we were to avoid every potentially touchy subject for fear of potentially touching off a nerve, we are going to end up with a pretty whitewashed game, which I really doubt anyone actually wants.

@Gameflow... I’m not sure if it’s what you where going for, but I’m reminded of Elam Ferguson from Hell on Wheels... -
funny story about looting bodies online
The_Liquor replied to deadairface's topic in Red Dead Online
Yeah... it’s likely he doesn’t want to miss out on a treasure map. -
it could be done in a way that is all in good fun... but yeah. People these days will always find ways to turn it into a big racist conspiracy because everyone takes everything too seriously and has to find a way to find he worst in everything.

Yeah, you were one of the individuals I meant when I made that generalization in my post lol. But I do think you are in the minority as well as those that just want to turn free roam into a death match. The majority are somewhere in the middle of these extremes. I mean, the game would loose a lot if I could do whatever I wanted without risk. But at the same time, people aimlessly killing every other player ‘because it’s the wild west’... make it unplayable. I think what we need is a system that makes Player on player violence have some kind of purpose, direction and predictably.

I have to agree. I get the same experience from clearing a hideout as I do from killing two dozen cops in town, only I don’t get a bounty or negative honour (which sometimes you may actually want). I just play the game and let the levels/money/gold come naturally:

FYI- Every time you reset your challenges you get .04 gold
The_Liquor replied to Freebird4Life's topic in Red Dead Online
Go to the pause menu, progress, challenges. Look through each one and reset all resetabble ones regularly... I may be a little off on my menu tree... but that’s the basics. -
From what I saw, Rockstar was shooting players that were riding by for no reason, and killing their horses too. But I didn’t watch the live stream and put no faith in the Edited videos around to make an actual judgement....

Expenses of Customization of Weaponry in Red Dead Online
The_Liquor replied to DylBandit's topic in Red Dead Online
Yeah. This I can get behind. Though you have to admit you can get a comparable alternative with money only (just the health and stamina being reversed). And in my order experience, 18 gold bars isn’t that big a grind if you catch a promotion... however, saddles do kind of fit into the ‘mostly’ cosmetic realm unless you are a dedicated racer... But yeah, I’ve definitely seen the odd item that adds a benefit of some kind, however minor, behind a gold wall. I truly hope they don’t decide to experiment and see how far they can push it. -
Yeah, I can appreciate that. But other than a few, I don’t think people really want an invincible mode. I see defensive mode as less a protection method and more of a flag saying ‘look, I’m busy. Please leave me alone’. It keeps the semi honest PvP enthusiasts away from you. And it has a little bit of built in protection from low level experimenters. But, much like a padlock isn’t going to stop a dedicated thieving prick from taking your stuff, defensive mode won’t stop a dedicated ass of a griefer from killing you while he makes videos of himself giggling like a prepubescent girl...

Red Dead Online: Your Feedback/Questions/Answers

I’d be happy with any system that allows me to make a little temporary satellite camp like in story mode. I get that sleeping isn’t a thing due to the real time nature of online, but I’d like to at least cook meats/tonics on the go. -

Lol. Funny you should mention other players camps... I make a point of drinking all their beer and cooking at least a piece or two of meat... I’ve yet to have anyone make an issue out of it and I always leave one bottle away from passing out. -
Yeah. I’m familiar with this guy. His whole channel is filled with videos of him being an ass just to see how big of an ass he can be. There isn’t a system in the world that will stop a guy like this, including hardcore/freeaim lobbies. He’s not interested in fighting people, he just wants to go around griefing people that have no interest in fighting. Using him as the poster boy for why we need a hardcore lobby for people that want to fight is pretty useless. If it happens, he’ll still be in the regular lobbies acting like A jackass. However, I imagine defensive mode being tweaked down the road to combat this behaviour. At the end of the day, I’m personally not against player on player violence and bloodshed. I just wish it made some kind of sense. Had a purpose of some kind behind it. And maybe a penalty/reward system that would cause people to actually think a little before pulling the trigger.

Red Dead Online: Your Feedback/Questions/Answers

Well, matches were a thing back then... I think lighters were even being worked on in the early 1800s... but I get the point. I always found it annoying how when I need to whip up some more meat I need to either go back to my camp three states over, or hope I come across someone else’s fire. I’d be willing to spend on some minor consumables to be able to whip up a crafting/cooking fire on the road. There were even portable stoves available back then I believe. -
Expenses of Customization of Weaponry in Red Dead Online
The_Liquor replied to DylBandit's topic in Red Dead Online
Honestly, I think if they didn’t show some level of ‘greed’ and online had no way to generate additional revenue, then development would stop and the game would have a pretty limited lifespan. If locking certain, mostly cosmetic extras behind gold accomplishes this and the game keeps developing, i’m happy. Especially since you can actually earn gold in gameplay. People always talk about the ‘greed’ in these games but never seem to realize that these companies exist to make money. Maybe Rockstar could come up with a less greedy system, I don’t know. But I find it much preferable to a system where you have to spend real money to buy important things, like a new gun. Or even pay a monthly subscription just to be able to log into your account... I agree. Once you’ve bought it, you should have it and be able to revert back as you see fit. -
Do gun belts work as they do in campaign?
The_Liquor replied to Freebird4Life's topic in Red Dead Online
I really don’t know... But I do know I go through a whole lot of gun oil... -
Yeah, I thought that might be it. An easy thing to miss if you just ran to the postoffice and clicked ‘collect all’ to restock on ammo and tonics...
-
Is the letter in your satchel by any chance? I think you have to activate it, like a treasure map.

I’m with @HuDawgon this one... resetting to rank one and loss of everything is way to harsh a punishment for a random killing and very well could be used against someone (or all to easily accidentally triggered when you push a wrong button and shoot/stab/choke someone instead of wave... maybe I’m clumsy, but I still do this time to time). however, an accumulating bounty, which could get quite high, payable out of pocket even if you have to go into the negative once a player catches you. Or perhaps so many real life days stuck in the prison (one day for every $100 you can’t pay perhaps... and only counting when your actively online). actually, the prison thing could be fun as well, if done right. Maybe some missions or activities that can only be accessed while serving an active sentence.
-
I didn’t watch much... just picked a few random moments to glance at while taking care of my morning business... I very well may have missed the context... but was the Rockstar Live stream group actually riding around griefing players?
-
I honestly have had very few problems since the update. The few I have run into had mostly been legitimately trying to steal my stuff, which I can actually live with. I had one guy shoot me because, as he said, he’s tired of being shot for no reason... it was just an excuse to justify being an ass as far as I could see (and I told him as much which threw him into a temper tantrum). One other guy shot me and then ran to a race... he was low enough level to have barely cleared the story mission, so I can give that one a pass. But two minor encounters over a couple weeks compared to more than that in an hour I’d say something is working.
-
See.. we can agree once in a while even if we want different things lol But, the bounty would be a consequence to crime as well as a fun activity to take part in... See, I envision the bounty coming out of pocket. You rack up a $300 bounty and someone catches you, you pay for it. If you don’t have enough you go into the negative. Everything you earn above maybe a $20 cost of living allowance gets taken until you pay that bounty down. However, with this I envision an actual system that allows you to steal from other players as well as banks or stores... Manx just because the players can catch you, doesn’t mean lawmen don’t come for you. Only you don’t just die and pay your bounty. Only players can collect that.... full consequences for being an asshole, as well as risk for trying to make an honest buck.
-
Mechanically very similar maybe.... but it’s a different beast. Kind of like calling star wars D20 D&D in space. You know, the more I think about it... separate lobbies just might be the way to allow us to each play the game we want without butting heads. Though I’m still half convinced it would have the watering down the lobbies effect:
-
I tend to agree with @HuDawg here. If lobbies become a thing, free aim/hardcore lobbies should be strictly point and shoot no ability card systems. i also truly hope bounty hunting becomes a thing. If you’re going to kill and steal, you should accumulate a bounty. If another player should catch you (I don’t think it should be a system as simple as just shooting them... perhaps you have to hog tie/knock them out and toss them into a cage wagon where you’ll the. Have to fight off their friends or other bounty hunters and deliver them to a sheriff) the player should get your bounty...
