  1. Sadly I'm on Xbox, but that's a lovely sentiment. I entirely agree with you about the game breeding mistrust of strangers. I try to tell myself that it's lending a dollop of authenticity, but I still wish, sometimes, that there were a little more faith out there.
  2. Good point - need to carry across my real-life street smarts to the game. Lesson learned! Helpful stuff, thank you - I hadn't given it a thought. I have always kept my guard up in towns, but when out in the wilderness doing some hunting I just figured we were all there for the same thing. I am level 20 collector and trader but dragging my heels on bounty hunting, so that's an insight into how I play the game. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
  3. I don't really know anything about defensive mode, have certainly never manually changed it (can you, or does it just react to player actions?), but I hadn't shot anyone that day, player or NPC, so I very much doubt that I was giving off any vibes yet clearly had no immunity from harm!! (Unless defensive mode prevented them shooting me, hence the lasso?)
  4. Thanks for the responses. Yes I confess I was waiting for the hammer to fall and one of them kill me just as I struggled free. At which point I would have lingered in the area and not let it go until honour was even. I am obviously naiive - you'd think I'd know better; I am ex-law enforcement in real life! - but it didn't occur to me that they'd give me any hassle. I had steered a berth around their camp (although was still within a 30 second sprint), but I had made an obvious deviation, and I didn't even shoot a bird within sight of the camp, so wasn't messing with 'their' hunting ground, I was literally just passing through. So was interested in others' thoughts. Next time I will be a lot more circumspect around other players, particularly in groups. Maybe I have just been lucky, so far, as I simply didn't see it coming at all. Thanks for the responses, all.
  5. Half the times I ride into either Tumbleweed or Valentine some player or another seems to be murdering everyone left, right and centre, yet I haven't seen one player bounty pop up. I step around the corpses as I calmly go about my shopping. Surely it would be worth $50 to the law to have someone step in and stop that sort of thing!
  6. Had a frustrating moment yesterday. My camp was pitched in the hills above ?Big Valley, north of Strawberry. I was riding south, doing a bit of hunting, to gather enough for a delivery run. There was another player camp pitched in the middle of the valley, on the bank of the river. I saw that there were three players in the camp, but it looked rigged for hunting, they had the butcher's table, Cripps was working away, there was a big delivery wagon, and the three players were carrying rifles. The white flag was raised. I rode past, not through the camp, indeed I gave it a bit of a berth. I was almost past (I had decided to head to Strawberry as there was nothing to hunt, presumably as the chaps in this camp had snagged it), when I saw a blip coming towards me from behind, leaving the camp. I turned and tipped my hat, there was a player standing looking at me, then turned back to continue the ride south. Then he lassos me, pulls me from my horse and hogties me. His two pals then join and they stand there looking down at me struggling. I hit the x button to break free, just as I do they all step back inside the camp confines, where they remained, so I couldn't retaliate (although I had given no hostile sign at any point, and had no weapon drawn at any point up until then). I watched for a while (figuring I'd be shot in the back if I turned to leave), steadily increasing the distance between us - they were still watching - with a scoped Springfield drawn in case of an attack. None came, distance was sufficient, I turned and rode on my way. I checked their levels, they were 162, 92 and 9. I'm level 54 but a relative novice who majors on collecting and hunting. Even had I wanted to make an argument of it I wouldn't have stood a chance. I put it down to experience, but does this happen to others? Do others on here do this? What do you get from it? Not being arch, genuinely interested. It felt like they just wanted to bully the passer by, and it only cost me a few minutes (although it wasn't fun), but I'm surprised that people bother. I had no mic so there was no chatter with me. How would others on here react? Should I have wreaked terrible vengeance? Or do you just sigh and move on? I went with the latter but would be interested to hear what others on here would do in my position.
  7. Yes I'd agree with that - my camp has been raided once, last week, just as I was arriving back, I could hear the gunfire and Cripps swearing at them as I rode up. So it might well be that they're geared to happen in time for you to help out (just like trader deliveries, the destination depot being under attack as you get there rather than arriving to a pile of dead bodies and thinking 'oh').
  8. Yes, I have run into this in a way. We're in the UK but have a house in Portugal, do a month a year there. As a sideline I do sports betting - first time I tried from Portugal, the BetFair (and others) App wouldn't load, the websites wouldn't load. At first I thought it was me, then checked an apparently online gambling is banned in Portugal. Irony is, I'm a currency trader and I can do that online in Portugal no problem.
  9. I can live with it being just short of cheating, as I might have wandered into a saloon and met someone who told me that they had just seen her. However a map of every collectible... for me there's no art or skill in that, personally I won't even open it (although good luck to those who do; this isn't a competitive sport so we can all play how we prefer).
  10. Thanks. Yes, I have been strictly solo for my own runs, so far. I have joined a few casual posses, and have helped others run their goods in (and do some five star bounties), which is a lot of fun, a lot of fun, but I have never formed my own posse. Maybe I have latent issues surrounding the potential for rejection!
  11. I have wondered the same, as I also haven't seen one. But isn't it something that unlocks with one of the Bounty Hunter ranks? I am rank 14, so just assumed that I hadn't got there, yet.
  12. I'd also love to know the answers to your other two questions, but in terms of skins someone posted on here last week that the wagon holds 50 skins, same as a horse, so the wagon effectively doubles your skins capacity. Apologies for the partial answer!
  13. I completely agree with you. Thing is, with my noddy wagon a local delivery is $150, a distant delivery is $187 - for $37 it literally isn't worth the extra time and risk, so I now just do local. If I had more reason to go long, I'd go long. Maybe when I have saved up for the bigger wagon it will be worth it. Hope so!
  14. Like it, will try that. But when I'm shot dead my e-ghost might haunt you, briefly, and you'll have guilt. Worth a try, though.
  15. I'm kind of torn. I like that this exists in the update, as I want the game to be as close to a sim with free choices as possible. However, given I play solo, all that has happened is that I now only do local deliveries, as on my own I can't hope to defend a pretty static wagon against a group of three or more human players. So this new aspect of the game has simply reduced my trader income, as I will at best risk a local scurry with my goods. I have joined a few posses, but setting up my own to defend my own goods deliveries just feels a bit too much of an unknown. So I like that it exists, but I'm not participating in this side of things myself. I was griefed last night and killed twice by the same guy using headshots with a varmint rifle, so somewhere in the equation (cards, I guess, a dark art to me) I am irretrievably behind in the arms race!
  16. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to clutter this sort of post by posting random replies - discussion forum etiquette seems to vary a lot across the various, unrelated fora I inhabit - but I just wanted to say that I am loving these bonuses and in particular the new Legendary Bounty. Much my favourite of those so far (although have liked them all) and without posting a spoiler the way I played it gave me my own highly enjoyable Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid moment. An absolutely peach of a Bounty (have only done the first three stars so far, so can't judge the last two - might be impossible on my own!). Anyway, thank you to whomever is behind it. Loved it.
  17. Yes absolutely please, I'll third that idea. I fear it's some sort of revenue draw, so might be essential to the site's balance sheet, but it is comfortably the worst thing about the site - it moves around pretty randomly on my laptop (no idea why), so I am constantly clicking it open by mistake. I like to stay immersed in a game and discover things for myself as much as is practical, so I am literally never going to watch it.
  18. Personally no, I won't be getting it. Partly because it already looks so darned good and plays so smoothly on my Xbox One X that I don't feel I'm missing out, and in greater part because I work mostly from home, so I keep games off the PC in the interests of being able to actually get some work done! Even had to take Sim City off the PC. I know, I'm weak. So these days I prefer a console for gaming and a PC for making actual money rather than in-game currency. Great that there's another avenue for more players to get to the game, though (although I wish we could all mingle on servers, rather than being locked in to playing with others using the same platform).
  19. 'Fraid so. But on the plus side, the money is good and the xp gain from collectibles is great, I shot up in rank once I starting working through the collections. Frankly, if anything it's a little too powerful.
  20. Thank you and yes that's interesting advice ref. where best to set up camp. I basically now don't dare do long range deliveries on my own as I have twice lost out to posses. I have the medium delivery wagon and am pulling $150 per local delivery so it is okay, I can make sufficient bank to keep things ticking along while I wait to gather a collector set. The top line horses are a way off though! I was down in Lemoyne after a collectible last night, about to head out to one of the near islands (my horse can swim it, phew) and a Level 8 came and stood right by me, then jumped on my horse behind me. I got off, he rides off. Then came back on his own horse (I whistled my horse back) and lasso'd me out of the blue. Even I have kung fu sufficient for a level 8 so had to introduce him to Captain & Tenille, my twin pearl-handled Schofields. But he didn't parley and basically stalked me for a good while, even followed me out to the island. It was like something out of Duel, although was quite fun (given I had the upper hand). A Level 162 did the same over the weekend, outside Valentine, he had a posse, too, so I had to high tail it down to Cholla Springs to get some space, they turned up there 15 minutes later, seemed to be looking for me. Again, I hadn't done anything (I have never drawn first, and tip my hat to all and sundry). Another guy messaged me and said that he liked shooting posh people (my character wears a sharp suit, don't think he was forming an actual character judgement as we hadn't spoken beyond a hat tip!) It's like the Wild West out there..! But all that was in the past week, plus some others, and I hadn't had an issue in a fortnight or so before this cluster.
  21. Interesting points raised there. I'm a relatively new player, so haven't seen a real cycle, yet, how the game flows. I had noticed this week that I have been griefed more in the past week than I have in my total previous six weeks or so playing the game. Players have been waiting when I drop off deliveries for Cripps, so I have to fight both players and bandits all at once, and have also been staking out the legendary bounty spawn locations. Have also had some waiting outside my Camp ready to tackle me when I return. I hadn't thought that it might be experienced players who had completed the new content and are now getting back to messing with us newbs! Made me think I need a posse, but I can't afford $200 each time! Is this a common thing in RDR? Personally, I haven't found the roles too easy (I'm 12, 12 and 20 in Trader, but I play a lot), but can absolutely see where you are coming from. I have yet to complete a set for Nazar but the three professions have really accelerated my ranking up, anyway - I'm level 53 but still feel like a novice. I do enjoy the free roam events linked to the professions, though - particularly Salvage and the one where you defend a train. Although another player usually shoots me dead as soon as they're over - it's a Mexican standoff each time at the end now lol.
  22. Thank you and yes, took part in a Salvage event earlier on and the first three items I found all required the shovel so it's definitely going to help. Do you happen to have any idea how to use the binoculars you can buy from Madame Nazar? I bought them on a whim and thinking about it, they seem to need RedEye while looking through them. Do you just stop and randomly scan for things? I had a quick go and am stumped. Sorry to use you as a one-stop shop for all things Nazar.
  23. Has anyone had this guy appear more than three times? His third visit to me was last week Took his plump bird meat and left, saying he'd see me again. Would love to know if he'll really be back.
  24. I realise that this is a bit historic, but my daily streak is constantly being reset, I can't get it above 9! I log on on day 10 and it is back to zero. I'm not raising a ticket - life's too short, and I have plenty of gold anyway - but thought it worth bumping this question back up as it is still seemingly a live issue.
