No. I won't say in every way because there are certain things that can't be done in RDR2 that was done in GTA V. They are both made by Rockstar but are completely different when it comes to the time frame. GTA V was modern day and obviously, RDR2 is not.

Overall you are saying they cannot be compared.

I don't think it's a fair comparison at this point because we have only experienced half (or less) of the game in that we haven't seen RDR2 Online as of yet.

Folks will have their reasons for supporting one over the other, but for me, the pacing of the story mode in RDR2 is vastly superior.  With few notable exceptions, the pacing is languid and allows me as a player to just soak in the ambiance that the game creates, enveloping me in it's atmosphere and titillating my appreciation for world building, story telling, and taking advantage of my appreciation for small nods and winks--there's so many of these that I couldn't even begin to elaborate on them here, but I play almost every day at this point for multiple hours a day, and I'm STILL only in Chapter 2, but still finding new things.

I mean,

Spoiler

The Evil Dead cabin being in the game?  Jesus, that's just blatantly pandering to my tastes.

If we are just talking about the story, RDR2 is easily better. There were some things in GTA V I liked more but it had nothing to do with the story really. Overall, RDR2 is better.

Story and graphics wise, absolutely. Online? Not even close.

I think that's just because of the amount of support GTAO receives opposed to the obvious stepchild treatment. I think that the online can be better with the right amount of support.

Having played HOURS of both, I would say overall GTA 5 is better.

RDR2 has the better story and characters as well as vibe IMO but online just did not land. It sucks too cause I would have preferred to not go back to GTA 5 online after RDR2 came out but I found myself doing so a bit over a year after online for RDR2 launched.

I think this is down to GTA having a bigger fanbase as well as Rockstar giving it their baby treatment and treating RDR online like a side project.

RDR 1 is better than GTA 5 but GTA 5 is better than RDR 2.

I think it is unfair to compare the games though as they are two different styles and time periods. Some people are naturally going to be more drawn to modern games.
