YellowDragon
I was thinking about this and maybe they wanted to have it be 4K ready? I mean it seems like a good reason to hold off for a few months don't you think? Like assuming they wanted to release it this fall, it would have been October and with the next system for Xbox coming out the following month, people likely won't want to spend that much. So to me... Pushing it back 6 months seems like the logical thing to do.
shawn
Nah. Most games that haven been being made for the last two years are made with 4K in mind already. It will be the new standard in a few years so they wanted to be ready for it. I can't see this being the reason. Sales though, maybe. Since they did partner with PS and not Xbox. X S
Like shawn said, I'm pretty sure they develop games in 4K, and then scale them down for hardware limitations. Moreover, I can't see Rockstar giving preferential treatment to one console. They're one of those few companies that try to maintain parity on every console, less PC, so chances are the game will look only as good as the PS4 Pro can manage. But who knows... I'd like to see a full 4K version on the XB1X, but certainly don't expect it.
DiamondDave
Maybe... Maybe not. I honestly think it was just down to not having the game done in time. Like maybe it will be fully made by Fall but not fully tested.
Jamesie
Yeah very doubtful it was because of the XOX (XBOXX, XBOX², ?), I mean they've most likely had dev-kits for it for quite some time anyway so I doubt this would be the reason unless Microsoft had paid for some kind of exclusivity deal which I think Sony has already cornered this time around.

Yeah Sony beat them to the punch. I feel like maybe Microsoft thought this game would not be worth it but I feel like they will regret it when it comes out. I have a feeling this one will bring in an even larger fan base.

Yeah I agree! I felt E3 wasn't quite as exciting as I'd hoped it would have been and with this anyone showing RDR2 would have stolen the show for one of them. Probably just too soon for Rockstar to want to shown anything more I guess.
Lonestar
Agree with both above - Red Dead Redemption 2 will be bigger than we think and E3 was a let-down for me personally too (and not just from a no Red Dead Redemption 2 info point of view, which I knew would be a no-show). X S
Just to reaffirm my earlier statement about the game only being as good as the PS4 Pro can manage, it looks like this may be the case. In a recent interview with Phil Spencer, he acknowledged that there "may be" clauses that force parity of fidelity, but that he's fundamentally against it, of course because it would effectively cap some games on the 'X'. There's rumors floating around that Destiny 2 was capped at 30 FPS not only because of this, but also because the original XB1 needs to be given consideration. Sony's Jim Ryan: http://www.vg247.com/2017/06/14/sonys-jim-ryan-isnt-worried-about-xbox-one-xs-power-game-devs-more-likely-to-aim-for-lowest-common-denominator/ Phil Spencer: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/e3-2017-phil-spencer-talks-xbox-one-x-potentially-/1100-6450916/ All in all, I don't suspect any platform really has any leverage to force this sort of policy with Rockstar, and in fact, it's Rockstar that calls the shots and maintains the parity. .......please be a PC version on release, please be a PC version..
riptide87
No chance. I could see this being the case years back when things like this did matter but these days, no one will stop a game from coming out for the sake of a console upgrade. Most of these gaming companies know in advance anyways so I am sure they were already in the know and already prepared for the 4K boost to the Xbox. FLIP
As everyone already said, no way. Maybe this would have been the case like 10 years ago but gaming is different and they are beyond capable of adapting games to new consoles in advance.
