master hunter 6

Well this is one of the harder ones, I'd say cause you have to use a bow and cougars are no joke.

In terms of locating them, easiest to find them down south. I'd get some poison arrows and shoot them from a distance. Wait until they die and then go skin them. That is the easiest way I found.

Well, down south is not an option because I'm still in chapter 3. So what about the area between owanjila lake and hanging dog ranch? I've been cougared in that area before. Thought that red dot was a snake but it turned out to be a big cat, and I was like WTF?

Yes, this is a great spot. Just follow the river until it splits with the road and go up the hill and they usually spawn there. I've gotten 12 there the last few days. Just be sure to sell the carcass at the trapper nearby or the won't spawn for a while. That road is a great place to leave carcasses on if you need boar pelts or a perfect raccoon or coyote. Critters come in to feed on then quite often if you just go back and forth along that road.

Lots of elk, foxes, rams, wolves, snakes, boars and small game there. Perfect hunting spot. Keep on eye on the mini map for red dots!

And LOL at "I've been cougared in that area before."

How many do you need to kill? I don't remember the count but I thought it was only 6? If that is the case, 8 arrows is plenty if you play the waiting game.

I think it's 5.

Yeah it is 5 so 8 arrows is plenty. Just make sure you make use of them and don't miss more than 3 times lol I had to redo it twice because I messed up and kept missing too many.

I got a cougar tonight with poison arrows. The first shot didn't kill him quick enough so I shot another. Got them both back when I went up to skin it.

I noticed the poison arrows can work very slow sometimes and this can result in the cat actually running off. Sometimes you can find them dead but most of the time if they get out of view and far enough, they just disappear.

Damn, that happened to me tonight too. I thought the poison arrows worked quicker. Guess I'll just shoot them with two if possible.

Once a cougar has got his paws on me, is there anything I can do, besides kissing my ass goodbye?

Sometimes they back off after a bit and back up to attack again. It's tough but you can sometimes still kill them.

I finally got all 5 for the challenge, what a relief.

Can I use bait for this challenge? I think I have enough ingredients for potent predator bait...

After that, the hardest part of the next 3 challenges is probably finding an opossum...

Finally managed to get a cougar for this challenge 🙂

Actually, I got 2, but the first one didn't count. Not for master hunter 6, and not for horseman 8 either 😞 No idea why. Anyway, horseman 8 is done and I finally got started on master hunter 6. But then I wasted some time riding up and down that road looking for the next cougar.

Follow the river north of Owanjila lake. Where the road is closest to the river is where every morning spawns a cougar.
I killed it with 3 improved arrows. The cougar was going for a prey (not for me) and I just had to aim and kill it. Plain simple.

North of Annesburg you have "Brandywine Drop". Go even more north to the place where the legendary moose is (or was). I marked the road to go to O'Creagh's Run and followed the road to the left, but still north of the railway. I scanned the area with my bow and (improved) arrow and I spotted a cougar hidden in the bushes. I shot killed it. Perfect kill...
I crossed the railway and in the area just underneath, left of Roanoke Valley I spotted a second one. I've put some bait on the ground and waited with the arrow. When It came closer, again 1 shot was enough to kill it. Perfect kill... again.

Sometimes, when you go to the location where the legendary moose is (was), and stay at the left side of the river and go all the way up to the waterfall, sometimes there is another cougar coming out from the bushes. It surpised me several times already. Now I go there with eyes on my back and ready to shoot.

Cougars are not so hard to find. You just have to have the luck to have a 3-star one.

A bear: a little north-west of Wallace station is a chimnay. In this area you can find a grizzly bear. When you kill it, wait for 3 ingame days and there should be another one.
South-west of Bolger Glade in the woods is also cougar.

it's more like south of bolger glade, and it's a panther, not a cougar. if you want a cougar, go to the road from owanjila lake towards hanging dog ranch.i've been cougared several times on the southern part of that road.

you'll also find cougars in the northeastern corner of the map, not far from the big waterfall
