Customisation of Arthurs appearance

There hasn't really been any indication as to how much control we will have of Arthurs appearance and clothing. The trailers show Arthur wearing the same blue shirt in pretty much every cut scene, albeit in different forms, such as with a jacket or duster coat.

This make me wonder whether we will be able to customise what he wears, or whether we will just have a number of set outfits we can select from like in RDR1.

On the other hand, it has been said that when Arthur loses his hat during a shootout, he will lose it forever and will have to buy/find a new one. If hats are purchasable from shops then perhaps other items of clothing will be, such as shirts and trousers?

This is a given. Also I heard that his beard grows and you can shave it how you want it. If it's short, for instance, you can't suddenly choose to have a long one, you have to wait for it to grow. Kinda cool.

His hair and clothing will be customizable for sure but it works how Benjo mentioned.

I find it more realistic and appealing. Like you might be given the option to shave or have your hair cut but if you don't bother, you look like someone who lives out the woods.

Customisation of Arthur's clothing and appearance is a given but it's unlikely that we'll see many clothing or facial hair options until we get our hands on the game, the first Red Dead Redemption was similar in that respect when it came to trailers and screenshots that were released before the game's launch.

I'm hoping we get the shirt Arthur is wearing in the recent artwork, appeals more to me than the blue shirt.

I also like the hat seen in this screenshot, it's just asking to get shot off.

I'm going to dress him in the latest fashions from San Francisco, as I fancy him as a dandy.  He will have proper hogs fat in his hair, and finely waxed mustaches.  Perhaps a monocle, if available as an option, along with a pipe.

Hopefully I can achieve this look.

I really liked that in the Witcher 3 and glad to see it implemented into RDR.

Makes me wonder how far they will go with realism. Like, we saw in the trailer that mud sticks to him when he was rolling around during the fight scene. Will that mud stay on his clothes until he changes them? Will he need to go for a swim in order to get clean?

All this speculation is getting me so hyped!

Let's just hope it's not massively disappointing

Missed opportunity, right there.  If you had put "Massive" in quotation marks, you could have turned it into a Tom Clancy's: The Division joke and followed up with a Horatio Caine sunglasses gif.  Like this:

About ten-fifteen years ago, there was a popular series here in the States called CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) that proved very popular with middle aged Americans (then the largest demographic, the "Baby Boomers).  The show was so popular, they created multiple spinoffs, including CSI: Miami, which starred David Caruso (actor in the gif).  One of the recurring gags in the show involved the cold-open where, more often than not, Caruso's character named--I kid you not--Horatio Cain-- would break the tension at the crime Scene with a cheesy line of dialogue or pun, whilst putting on his sunglasses, promptly followed by the show's opening credits, which used The Who's "We won't get fooled again".

Sample for reference:

It's a common meme when invoking a bad pun.  Massive was the studio that bitched the launch of The Division.  To be fair, they've recovered nicely, but that launch was abhorrent.

You will no doubt be able to purchase or create outfits. His hair and beard grows so you could leave him an unshaven, dirty mess or clean him up (literally) and have his beard and hair cut in a style you prefer. If Arthur drops/loses his hat, he can go back to retrieve it but it's unlikely that you would be able to find it if you're going fast on your horse during a shootout and it comes off then.
