My oldest is only 8, so he's a few years from having a phone, but Ground Rule #1 is definitely going to be, "Thou Shall NOT Use Internet Slang Nor Colloquialisms When Messaging Thy Parents." Neither Mrs. Creed nor myself use shorthand when texting. Mrs. Creed's biggest sin is emoticons, but otherwise, we "Habla Ingles" and avoid shorthand because as former athletes (decades ago), we adhere to "you play how you practice". It's solid advice for just about everything, and we stress it for our kids even when studying: sit down and relax when studying, because when testing in school, the instructors don't allow you to walk around the room, use the restroom, eat, or glance at your phone/device. The same can be said of writing habits. If 75% of someone's communication is done via text, full of acronyms, shorthand, and emoticons, they will be functionally illiterate when they need to produce papers in an academic environment. Practice how you want to play, indeed.3 points

"Learn to Play"? Was "Git Gud" too trite? No two players have identical synaptic potential or eye-hand coordination. I'm middle-aged, and would get absolutely annihilated in an FPS when going up against a 15-year old kid doped out on ADHD medication. Strategy and planning can only do so much. And "noob"? What is this, 2002? Edit, I'd be willing to bet that more than half of the people who use "noob" can't even tell you the etymology without using the ol' Googlemachine to get an answer. Because they're "noobs"3 points

I think you are right about people being hypnotized by the positive aspects of RDR2. This is like being on honeymoon with your new, not-that-pretty, but healthy bride. You are blind to any flaws. For the time being. People romanticize their gaming experiences to extraordinary levels and refuse to acknowledge any shortcomings. But eventually the honeymooners will come around. Sadly it will be too late. R* understand the psychology of this very well which is why they are in no hurry to release a patch. Not even to fix the HDR, which is less a case of perception but a technical fudge job. It is literally FAKE HDR (deliberately implemented in that way) and somehow, inexplicably, they are getting away with it. And I blame the major media channels like Digital Foundry for not making a bigger fuss over this.2 points

I continue to check on this thread and either see topics off track or people pitching in problems from the xbox one x. Brothers having problems over there too? That's a shame if it's that bad. Though, you should definitely make another thread for issues on xbox. As it will get lost here on a thread specifically noting the PS4 Pro.1 point

From what i'm reading online (gameshedge.com hunting guide) there's 4 quality grades for meat. Best Big game (gators, wolves, bears, moose, etc.) High Quality Exotic Bird (Parakeets, Parrots, Pelicans, etc.) Tender Pork (various pigs) Mature Venison (Deer and pronghorn) Prime Beef (Cattle, Buffalo, Oxen) Game Meat (Rabbits, Ducks, Pheasants, etc.) Succulent Fish (trout, salmon, other such game fish) Good Quality Crustacean (Shellfish) Flakey Fish (Perch, Bass, etc.) Plump Bird (Turkey, Geese, Chicken, etc.) Grisly Mutton (sheep, goats) Low Quality Gritty Fish (Bluegill and other trash fish) Herptile Meat (Frogs, Iguana, etc.) Gamey Bird (small birds) Stringy Meat (rodents and other small varmints) I read somewhere else while looking for this list, that perfect animals will give high quality, ie that prefect buck might give you big game, or a large bluegill (caught with the lure or special lure) might give flakey fish. I haven't paid enough attention to verify this. I'll have to check that out tonight while i'm out hunting.1 point

Agreed. I had to tell my son to use English when he texts me so i know what he's talking about. This was after he needed something for school that was important a couple years back but i had no clue what his text said and missed the deadline. He was mad when i got home and threw a fit about it, told him to text english and he'll get what he needs when it's needed. seemed to work, i rarely get a text anymore from him i can't understand. what bugs me now is they can't put more than a few words in a text. I get 10 texts for something they can do in 1 or maybe 2. If i do it back to them I get "DAD! STOP!" lol1 point

I don't think so, I'm only on chapter 3, it was in a post office in Van Horn (not sure if that's the correct spelling, West side of the map).1 point

sure does i lost my bright red hat doing this, it's more red/grey. Guess i'll have to go kill everyone in Strawberry since they're all annoying anyway and get my red hat back.1 point

The zeroes! I forget about those. Good stuff.1 point

I feel like there's an opportunity here for a youtube series whereby you grab this guy with a lasso and toss him off of a bridge while saying "I think he's down there" or putting him on train tracks, dropping him over ledges, abandoning him at gang hideouts, etc...1 point

n00bs and nubs ... I like this modern vernacular.1 point

To be fair, I learned it from watching televised spelling bees. Although nowadays, the kids always ask for "the language of origin". Noobs.1 point

They certainly couldn't tell you what etymology means. Let alone synaptic potential.1 point

I think we all agree that it should be possible (with the option to turn it off). It's the future of gaming and we'll get there eventually. They both (Sony and Microsoft) just need to put their egos aside and accept that cross play is the way to go. Then we would buy consoles based on our own preferences rather than what system our friends have.1 point

Supersampling and HDR is vastly different things! What you refer to as "supersampling" is a technique where the same visuals are layered in order to give the impression of a higher resolution image. Or when a small image is blown up and the missing visual information added using some clever wizardry called checkerboard rendering. HDR on the other hand has to do with increased color range.1 point

I feel as if I've already responded to this ...?? Many stranger missions are time sensitive and go only be done during certain main story chapters, after certain prerequisites and before certain cut-off points. There is no way to go back to them after you've passed certain points in the game. Sorry. Basically, if you want to do every missable mission in the game you have to play slowly through the main story chapters, with high honour, activating and completing each optional mission as you go before moving on. Having the guidebook really helps you plan this out. Even then, it's still hard to do everything in a single playthrough and most people will likely have to play the game at least twice in order to do everything (you have to play through more than once in order to see the dialogue and ending variations anyway).1 point

I see him all the time. He's usually just in town hanging out or asking for some money. I always give him some if he asks.1 point

I noticed when I am dirty as all sin they kind of don't want anything to do with me. Not that I blame them, I likely smell like something a croc digested and shat out a month ago decomposing in a swamp.1 point

In between the N and the E of New hannover is some loose rock formations near where the first camp is, if you approach on foot you'll find Bluejays, Orioles and songbirds perched on the rocks every time. From there follow the path down to the Dakota river and this time scout the rocks near the river bed on foot. You can find Sparrows, Robins, eagles, woodpeckers, and the previous birds listed above. Bridges, even small ones; are very good locations to look also. Using your binoculars tends to cause them to take flight so use a weapon to scout them instead.1 point

I think I was using some starting guns for that. I don't think anything was upgraded. I think I was using the standard ammo. Hosea may have given me some rifle, which I may have used, but I can't recall. For the actual fight ... My cats in my living room freaked out and I had to pause and turn the volume down to calm them down. I was a little surprised that the actual fight wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. Maybe that's coming from playing other games (Diablo 3) and thining Legendary was going to mean it has more hit points, higher resists, and hits harder. The animal did require more steps, with tracking, to eventually find it. And it does potentially get more complex with using scent concealers and bait, to help find it.1 point

I feel like a lotta people are hypnotized into saying only good things about the game since its Rock*. Considering the technical side of things, there are considerable issues with this game even on XBOX ONE X version that has not really been addressed by the Major Media outlets such as Gamespot or IGN or even digital foundry. One such thing is the ridiculous depth of field and camera focus in this game even in the X version. I have been watching a lot of playthroughs online from the One X version and this out of focus problem occurs specifically when the character goes indoors. Granted, One X version benefits from 4k resolution and does not end up looking as bad as pro but this issue is still there and I have yet to see anyone address it on the One X version. All are singing praises of this game and no body is willing to admit these issues. Some contribute this to the artistic choice of the developer yet I don't get how blurry indoors due to faulty implementation of depth of field and focus is considered artistic when you need to squint your eyes in order to see what the heck is going on in indoor environments or keep holding the LT/L2 button in order to shift the focus from your character's shoulders to the background. The same occurs to a lesser degree with the mountains or trees in the background or any objects that is further than a couple of meters from your ingame character in the open. IT IS THERE ALSO ON THE ONE X VERSION but no body seems to acknowledge this. This game kind of reminds of MAFIA 3 at least in the graphic department. Example: just look how blurry the interior of the cabin gets as soon as Arthur steps in, the lights look blurry the wallpaper looks blurry, the table in the background looks blurry. THIS IS ONE X VERSION1 point

Just gave in and bought an xbox one x. Microsoft dropped it to $400, and that's the cheapest I've seen it (even used). I give it 2 days before I find a better deal on it.1 point

For the love of god. I think I need to make some clarification here: HDR IS BROKEN AND WILL NEVER BE FIXED - Game was made for SDR. You can't fix this by messing with TV settings. Turn this off Motion blur is different to the extreme bluriness of the game that PS4 Pro users in 4K are encountering. This happens only when you move the camera as its name says "Motion blur". This is on both Xbox and PS4 versions of the game. Only way to fix blurry view on Ps4 Pro for now is to uncheck SS in video options and force 1080p. There is no other GODDAMN fix so stop posting some silly TV settings pretending them to be a fix for all your problems. Yes I am also playing at 1080p now because on 4K blur is so intensive that it gives me headaches and no, I don't know when they will fix it.1 point

Yeah I’ve had a bath and slept and still the feather is there submerged through his wrist lol. I can’t look at Arthur’s reflection in a mirror which is either creepy or definitely glitchy.0 points
