  1. The amount of draw on a crossbow needed to have a bolt puncture a target at anything more than a few meters or feet is going to require both a considerable amount of time and strength to properly secure. For the size of the device, it's wildly non-pragmatic for most small scale engagements, particularly when compared to the speed and efficiency of regular firearms. Riles and pistols have a longer effective range, larger loads (i.e. stopping power), are capable of firing more shots without being reloaded, and reload quicker than a crossbow. The only reason for a crossbow would be for an assassination mission where stealth was necessary, and a bow is more maneuverable and versatile (with a longer effective range) in those instances anyway. Realistically, the most practical application of a crossbow is for castle or fortification defense from a stationary position against a mobile opposing force. A crossbow affords the user more cover in tighter spaces (like atop the wall of a castle) than a bow or longbow, making it better suited when being besieged from a fortified position. Edit: I knew that course I took in college about medieval castles would pay off one day.

  2. Something most modern movies/stories--coughLookingatyouDisneyStarWarscough--fail to understand is that a good hero is only as compelling as the villain/threat they face. I love The Warriors, but absent that amazing performance from David Patrick Kelly (one of cinemas great character actors for villains--see Commando), it's largely forgettable. My kids hate that clip. When they get in trouble, I used a modified version of that to get their attention. They also loathe it when they threaten me and I use the stock: "The United States of America does not negotiate with terrorists" line. I don't even get past "States" and they get super pissed. The new one I've rolled out when they're being difficult is from when Peter McNeely was doing a press conference before his fight against Mike Tyson. I'll find a way to work in, "you have a big dump in your pants" to wit: Maybe I'll start using that on griefers. Complete with the accent and everything.

  3. All I'm saying it people are killing you even though they... haven't been notified that you... have started a mission. They killed you even before there was an incentive for them to kill you. Just to be assholes.

  4. I just got in for about an hour last night and really dug what I saw/experienced. It's more cover-based, and less run-and-gun, which is going to have major implications for tactical play, which is perfect for "people of a certain age" who may not have the best reflexes, like me. Mildly irked by not being able to customize the Agent (only being able to randomize the appearance), but the mechanics and gameplay seemed very polished, all things considered. So far, not regretting my Collector's Edition purchase on the full game. We'll see how it goes at launch, but for now, I'm looking forward to getting back into it tonight once everyone else in the house goes to bed (this thing is BEGGING to go up on the projector instead of the TV). In a vacuum, were I making a snap-decision to buy TD2 or Anthem, I'd probably go with Anthem. It comes out first, and, as I've said previously, it literally looks like a blend of Halo and RDR2, which is right in my wheelhouse. I love Sci-Fi in games, but am bored to tears with traditional FPS games. TD's quasi-futuristic setting helps satisfy the itch to a degree, but I have a feeling Anthem would turn me into a gaming degenerate again. That said, the story from The Division is probably one of the most well-strucutred and engrossing as any I've seen in a game in at least a decade. The world-building, attention to detail, and pacing sucked me right in, and based on some of the spoilers from the Beta, I'm not going to be disappointed in how they have chosen to continue the story. I'm all-in on TD2, and have no regrets. It'll be hard enough to juggle the limited playing time I have between RDO and TD2, but it's a luxury to even have that "problem", so I'm not going to complain. Definitely. The pacing between the two is completely different, and both offer unique experiences. When I want a more relaxed pace, it's going to be RDO. When I want to be dripping with sweat, hands trembling, it's going to be TD2.

  5. I go both ways. Sometimes I wanna just play with myself and other times I want someone to play with me. I understand that may have sounded bad but I am leaving it. Maybe someone will get a laugh from it.

  6. If you are looking for a certain animal or item in RDR2, drop your request here and I will (to the best of my ability) post the map location in this thread. Just for the members of this great forum! To start: Known locations of bear spawns below:

  7. I was looking for cigarette cards (using the official guide book as a guide). I went to get the Flora of North America card number 3 at the location in the picture. While I was there, I heard a conversation between Trelawny and his family (or ONE of his families--who knows?). He seems to have a house with a wife and several children there in St Denis. Anyone else heard more about him or any other characters in strange places?

  8. Funny. I did exactly the same thing a few days ago, he gave one of the kids a spinning top as a present. I didn’t see them though. Doing this really makes you think about the huge amount of dialogue in the game and just how much we don’t get to hear for whatever reason...

  10. dry heat is much more tolerable than humid. you hit 95+ in high humidity and it's beyond miserable, same with cold, really cold temps in high humidity goes right to the bone. Arid areas are the best living locations, humid areas are fun to visit when the weather is right.

  11. glad i read this thread i've been waiting for 4 or 5 months for Division 2 beta. I know what i'll be doing this weekend now. I'm a gamefly guy, i have 20 some odd games in my list at all times, all different kinds of games. keeps it interesting. then if i really like the game i'll keep it. I just added Anthem and Metro to my list earlier this week. RDR2 and Division 2 were the exceptions, RDR2 was originally pre-ordered in october 2017 for my son's birthday, Division 2 was pre-ordered this past fall/winter for his birthday.

  12. Or, you can totally cheat with this: https://rdr2map.com/ The beauty is, you can sort by category to change the overlay. It's been a lifesaver. Granted, you still have to deal with the randomness of them actually spawning, but at least you can plot a course to give yourself as much of a chance as possible by hitting up as many as efficiently possible in an "in game day"

  19. Yeah, I'm in no way going to dump RDO2 just because I play another game. I've been doing it since RDOs release anyhow. TD2 will simply be a game I play with certain friends and RDO with others. Anthem looks cool but simply isn't my kind of game unfortunately. Heck, I was almost going to give TD2 a pass for a while before a couple friends said they were getting it upon release. For my kind of MP shooter, I'm really just waiting for Insurgency Sandstorm.

  21. Same here, I love just trotting from a to b, shooting any animal that moves on the way to a stranger mission. Even when YouTube was groaning about the griefers I never really saw them as too much of a problem as there's always somewhere quiet you can go if need be. And anyway, it's good to be attacked every now and then, keeps things lively and lets you test your ability load-outs. When you FR me make sure it's the correct Mary W. Most people end up friending another MaryW. Hers has a ladybird icon while mine, also a beetle, doesn't have spots and has extended mouth-parts.

  24. Superb news (for me, anyway). I deleted my old disc-installed RDR2 (cos the drive has stopped recognizing discs) and instead downloaded another copy from the PS4 store. My fear was that I'd lose my old online character and those level 87 stats but, joy and dancing ensues, my character was there waiting for me in the rain outside of Blackwater. The extra download cost me £50 but if I sell the disc copy at CEX they'll give me £35 for it. I might as well get rid of Mass Effect: Andromeda, The South Park Fractured But Whole and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided while I'm there. Might recoup the whole £50. :D Anyway, Chris. I'm up for some Posse grinding (that really doesn't sound right!!!) so hit me up and let's ride!

  26. You could try choosing to spawn up in Colter (snowy area). There's almost never anyone up there. And even if there is they are usually pretty far away.

  27. It really comes down to opportunity for me. When I spawn in, I get shot in the head by some try-hard with a Varmit Rifle within about twenty seconds while I orient myself about half the time. If I have time, I whistle over my horse and take off for the largest gap in the player blips on my mini map until I get some distance to plot my next move. More often than not, I spawn into firefights if I just enter free roam, and even when I select region-specific entries, R* tends to put me into a game that's densely populated when I spawn (probably by design). IMO, it's more than a bit ridiculous to have people wait to load, spawn, and then spend ten minutes riding across the map for some peace and quiet, or attempting to do a mission.

  28. Submit your feedback to R* about this issue. I hate the fact that there is no way to simply do the story missions with just 1-2 friends without the system trying to throw randoms in the mix. https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=f2e50892

  30. Normally stranger mission dont give other players a chance to kill you for quite a bit. Just the other day I was hunting in Bluewater when I saw (what I thought was) a smoke plume for a gang hideout. I naturally ride toward it and the is a stagecoach there with a guy dead on the ground. All of sudden I huge black gator comes charging at me from a distance and actually kills me(shock). I respawns and head back cuz I thought maybe I attacked it somehow and kid you not....this thing was still charging me from over 100m out(not normal gator activity). Anyways...out of nowhere, a player comes up and hopes in what I thought was a normal car. I watch him ride down the ride a bit for about 15 seconds then I get the HUD prompt to destroy the cart and kill the player. He had plenty of time before it ever notified anyone he was a target for attack. The players killing you at mission start are just killing you for the sake of killing you.
