  1. RED DEAD ONLINE: WORLD UPDATES, NEW MISSIONS, POKER AND THE ROAD AHEAD Today’s update to Red Dead Online brings a host of new gameplay including new cooperative story missions, Free Roam activities and the addition of Poker alongside a range of updates and improvements that strengthen and stabilize the foundational world of the Red Dead Online experience. A massive thank you to everyone who participated during the beta period. Your feedback has been instrumental in helping us fine tune the game so far with many of your suggestions implemented in today’s update, and we will continue to implement more of your feedback in future updates to come. This is just the beginning. The future of Red Dead Online not only includes continued improvements to the core elements of the world to make every aspect of the game fun for all kinds of players, but also brand-new experiences that establish a deeper, more immersive connection to the world and your character. See below for details on today’s update and what’s coming in the weeks and months ahead. The revenge saga of Jessica LeClerk continues today with new missions for both honorable and dishonorable players in A Land of Opportunities. After the epic showdown in Fort Mercer that concluded the last series of missions, players will help Mrs. LeClerk get closer to the truth behind the murder of her husband. In the more honorable Gunslinger path, battle the Del Lobos gang and help Marshall Tom Davies save Valentine – and his own neck. In the Outlaw strand, outwit lawmen to assist Samson Finch in highway robbery, and pull off a daring high-stakes theft at the Saint Denis Bank. Both paths lead to a rendezvous in Blackwater with a dangerous adversary. Free Roam Missions also expand today with new characters from the story of Red Dead Redemption 2 and a variety of new and diverse mission types. Bring your Posse to meet with Thomas the Skiff Captain down in Bayou Nwa for some honest work or visit the disconcertingly hospitable Aberdeen Pig Farmers to get your hands extremely dirty, and look out for more characters to appear soon. Competitive fishing is now available on-demand in one of three new Posse Versus Challenges. Posse leaders can simply use the Player Menu to trigger intra-Posse competitions to reel in the biggest catch before the timer runs out in the Biggest Fish Contest, down the most flying birds in the Bird Shooting Contest, or gather the most plants in the Herb Picking Contest. As you make your way across the frontier, you may happen across townsfolk and travelers in need of assistance, or opportunists looking to prey on lone riders. Stay sharp and keep an eye out, many of these encounters offer XP, Honor, Cash and even Gold rewards. Visit poker tables at towns and outposts across the map to challenge your friends to a private, invite-only game of Hold ’Em. Or, raise the stakes and take a seat at a public table, where the buy-ins and rewards are even higher. All poker tables seat up to 6 players, available in 5 locations: Blackwater, Saint Denis, Tumbleweed, Valentine and Flatneck Station. Mark your territory and lay claim to as much land as you can, working your way behind enemy lines to capture territory from your opponents while defending what’s yours. Whoever holds the most land at the end of this new Showdown Mode wins. Boasting a 9-round revolving chamber and a secondary barrel for a single buckshot round, switch between rapid-fire bullets and a devastating shotgun shell on the fly with the LeMat Revolver – now available for purchase from the Wheeler, Rawson and Co. Catalogue. More clothing items and emotes are also available, featuring some highly-requested clothing options including Ponchos, patterned Bandanas and more – as well as new emotes such as Throat Slit and Flip Off. New inventory will be coming and going often so check the Catalogue frequently to see what’s in stock week-to-week. In addition, all players who jump into Red Dead Online this week will get a gift of 15 Gold Bars and see a 25% increase of XP on A Land of Opportunities, Free Roam Missions, Showdown Modes, Races and Free Roam Events. Treasure hunters will also find 25% extra Cash and Gold in chests containing them. All Ultimate Edition owners will also get a gift of RDO$100 and the Throat Slit emote for free. As outlined in an earlier post previewing some of today’s additions, this update brings the option to choose how you interact with players inside the world of Red Dead Online, via Offensive and Defensive playing styles in the Player Menu. The Offensive playing style is set as the default and is how most players traditionally interact in Free Roam – free to engage in hostile contact with other players if you are prepared to accept the potential consequences. The Defensive play style is for those players who would rather explore the world in Free Roam than engage in conflict with others – and it’s designed to let other players know that you don’t want to tangle with them, as well as minimize opportunities for griefing. At the same time, Defensive players will not be alerted to PvP Free Roam missions and can not be pulled into them while in Defensive mode, allowing them to go about their business as freely as possible. Players in Defensive mode will be indicated by a shield icon, will take reduced damage from enemy players, cannot be lassoed, melee attacked, executed or targeted with auto-aim. Defensive players will also be excluded from being targeted in PvP-related missions such as Player Assassination. Those who attack Defensive players receive hefty penalties via the Hostility system., while players who initiate conflict while in Defensive mode will be instantly pulled out of Defensive mode) and also receive similar Hostility penalties. Today’s updates also build on the player radar and visibility improvements introduced in February to create a smarter and more responsive approach to mitigating griefing behavior. The Hostility System tracks aggressive behavior across both Playing Styles, making hostile players visible to others and helping to balance the needs of players who want to get away from others who habitually attack or kill during unstructured Free Roam gameplay. As before, player blips change color - beginning dark blue and transitioning to red as their hostile play persists. A bright red blip indicates an enemy. With today’s update, players will never receive Hostility or Bounty increases for defending themselves against a player who is blipped as an enemy, or for killing high Hostility players. If a player attacks another player, they will not be marked as an enemy to everyone - but rather to the attacked player only, who will not receive a penalty for firing back. You can view your current Hostility level through the Player Menu. As you become more hostile, you become more visible on other player’s radars at longer distances and will respawn further and further away from your point of death – at the highest level of Hostility, you will respawn in a different region. Hostility increases do not apply within structured events such as Free Roam Events, Free Roam Missions, Showdowns and Races. Engaging in PvP behaviors related to Free Roam missions will not incur Hostility increases while in the Offensive playing style, however attacking other players not engaged in the activity will cause your Hostility level to rise. In order to improve the overall gameplay experience, we have made some significant changes to Red Dead Online: Removed Auto-Aim Headshot Tracking (Enemy Players Only): This subtle but important change affects the way players can earn headshots against rival players. While auto-aim still tracks to the center mass of an enemy player, you will no longer be able to simply flick up on the Right Stick to gain a headshot. This makes earning headshots slightly more challenging, which in turn makes competitive gameplay such as Showdown series more rewarding and balanced. Faster Weapon Swaps/Instant Projectile Lighting: We have increased the speed of weapon swaps across the board, including instant projectile lighting to make throwing fire bottles and dynamite faster. New Control Scheme – “FPS2”: In response to community feedback we’ve added a new control scheme FPS2 (+variants). This follows our ‘FPS’ layout but moves sprint to [R1] and crouch to [X]. (This option is available in both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online). Daily Challenge Updates: In response to your feedback, we’ve removed all PvP-related Daily Challenges from Free Roam and added a number of new Daily Challenges and Rewards, including Challenge Streaks with progressively increasing Gold rewards. New Awards: Several new awards in Free Roam have been added including awards associated with the latest gameplay. Global Signal Timers: Players tackling Free Roam Missions will have a bit more flexibility to operate with an increased global signal timer and a reduced range at which players are signaled. Press Charges: When a lower Hostility player is killed without retaliating they will have an option to “Press Charges” during the respawn period, which will enforce an increase on their attacker’s Hostility and Bounty value. Press Charges is not available if you are a high Hostility player or marked as an enemy to the player who killed you. Horse Specialty Selection: You can now use the Player Menu to preset which of your owned horses you would like to use in Free Roam, Races, Showdown Modes and on missions. Increased Gold Payouts: We have adjusted the economy to increase Gold payouts across the board, with most Gold-earning activities now awarding up to double the previous amount. Starting today for a limited time, players will also receive 1 Gold Bar per rank they progress. To see a comprehensive list of fixes as part of today’s update including a new HDR cinematic mode for both Story Mode and Red Dead Online, visit the dedicated Rockstar Support page. And check out the new Red Dead Online official site which includes resources for new players including details on existing game modes and features, plus integrated tracking via Social Club and more. For PS4 players without a PlayStation Plus subscription, you'll be able to play Red Dead Online as part of a special bonus period from now until May 27th. All PS4 players will see new Early Access content coming soon, keep an eye on the PlayStation Blog for more details. In the weeks ahead, more additions to Red Dead Online include new Free Roam characters, as well as new Showdown modes and lots more. This includes new Free Roam Missions and Clothing for both PS4 and Xbox One next week on May 21st, along with new PS4 Early Access content (keep an eye on the PlayStation Blog for more details soon). Then on May 28th, look for the new Head for the Hills Showdown Mode, the Wild Animal Kills Competitive Free Roam Challenge and more. Followed by the Public Enemy Showdown Mode and Railroad Baron Free Roam Event, where players capture cars on a moving train, on June 4th. June 11th's update includes the Sport of Kings Showdown Mode, plus new limited-time and permanent clothing additions to the Wheeler, Rawson and Co. Catalogue. Also keep an eye out for weekly bonuses like RDO$ and Gold gifts, increased payouts, care packages, exclusive gifts and more. With the foundation of Red Dead Online now established, future updates will offer new ways to fully inhabit your character as you progress in multiple roles and carve out your own place on the frontier. Starting this summer, players will be able to take on the first three of a series of new roles: track down wanted criminals as a bounty hunter; search the world for treasure, and other exotic items to sell as a collector; or build a business at camp as a trader and more. Each new role will come with a range of unique gameplay along with a host of new outfits, weapons and other rewards to earn. Players will have the option to focus on a specific role to advance quickly and unlock each role’s unique attributes, or simultaneously progress across multiple roles as you play naturally to create your own unique character and path through the frontier. Experience Red Dead Online now to familiarize yourself with the world and prepare for the launch of these new roles this summer. Stay tuned for more information soon.

  3. It's in the Free Roam menu (left d-pad button on PS4). It may be in a sub menu for options but its in there. EDIT: I just checked and yes, it's at the bottom of the Free Roam menu in options. You have to scroll all the way down as it doesn't show on screen unless you do.

  4. I leave my PS4 on standby. It's already loaded on. Took a quick look earlier and I noticed right away the wardrobe bug seems to be fixed, the daily challenges no longer have player kills in Free Roam as objectives, there is an indicator in the menu as to what your blip status is and a few other UI changes / improvements. Cool stuff.

  16. Just to update my own post... "Furthermore, Red Dead Online is poised for success and net bookings grew sequentially in the fourth quarter. Rockstar Games continues to update the beta with a wide array of new content as well as gameplay balancing and bug fixes. We expect Red Dead Online to exit the beta period during the current quarter with significant new content follow. We're as excited as ever about the long term opportunity for Red Dead Online." "Yeah, thanks for your questions. Rockstar has said that Red Dead Online will be coming out of beta in the current quarter. And there's content to come on an ongoing basis and including when it comes out of beta. So I think we have very high expectations for that title going forward. And I would observe that if you compare how Red Dead Online is doing at this stage of the game, in terms of the initial release, and the movement into beta, Red Dead Online is performing better than Grand Theft Auto Online did at the same stage of the game. So we have terrific expectations, as does everyone in the company. Of course, the folks at Rockstar feel great about the upcoming content drops."

  17. I like reading what people are using, helps me decide what's best for me. Currently I use: Hands: Duel Schofields with split point for gang hideouts and general cowboy fun Shoulder: Repeating Shotgun with slugs bc why not. Good for bringing anything down Back: Bow with all ammo types. Great for hunting... I do 99% free roam, not into PVP This seems to be my go to, but all weapons have their place/perks

  18. Yeah I don't know if anyone else has interest in these sort of things but TTWO (take two the holding company for R*)is to report earnings after the bell today At the very least we will probably get some updates on whether or not they are losing or gaining RDO customers and probably some outline for the path forward. Hard to believe but this game been in "beta" for 6 months now at end of the month. Personally I still love the game but feels like it's stuck in neutral for awhile now. Been slowing down with spring and summer right behind it. I'm holding out hope that someday soon they'll let me own that house of Ill repute I've always dreamed of,or at least something to jump start that passion I had at the beginning. Tempered expectations

  19. ......and I think if that wasn't apparent to some people before it should be now. R* has made it quite clear IMO that Free Roam is a "one for all" mode. ......not a "free for all" as some try to paint it.
    1 point
  20. BTW, unless some haven't noticed, this update seems to end the "Beta" portion on RDO. It appears all mentions of "beta" have now been removed from the Feedback page, the RDO screens in-game, etc. They also mention this in the patch notes.

  29. Actually it's a PvEvP based game. It allows for both PvE and PvP. Just because some prefer PvE, doesn't mean PvP can't nor does it mean it has to either. The opposite could be true as well. By the way, you missed out the rest of that paragraph, which sounds more PvE then PvP. Of course above that they also mention this being a unique game unlike anything else. They apparently never heard of GTAO.

  33. The fact is that R* themselves recognize "griefing" as indiscriminate killing of others and are implementing measures to help mitigate that for those who wish not to be on the receiving end. I can fully understand how some may not like that and prefer to have the risk of being targeted on a whim, but I also understand those who want to have options to help protect them from this kind of gameplay in Free Roam. .....and whether some people want to accept it or not, R* agrees. I'm ok with a difference of opinion and discussions on the topic. What gets really annoying however and is a pet peeve of mine is when people begin to insult others for theirs by suggesting they go play another game, question their abilities, indicate that they have no backbone, etc. It's disrespectful IMO. This "griefing" argument is old and has been discussed ad nauseum. The fact is that people will have a difference of opinion and R* obviously has a direction and vision they have defined based on player feedback. Some may not like that but they also have the chance to voice their suggestions via the Beta Feedback site like the rest of us have. Let's discuss the topics but as a fellow community member I would ask that we do it without the condescending remarks / suggestions. We're better than that and that's what (IMO) separates RDR2.org from the crap-slining fests that are Reddit, etc.

  34. Thanks @Chris Arbaugh for sending me the reminder. btw, here is some information on the patches made today as well: In addition to the new Red Dead Online gameplay and features released this morning, today’s title update includes over 400 bug fixes, balances and improvements. We are continually working to address bugs and improve the overall experience, among today’s hundreds of fixes are the following adjustments: Issues that caused a player’s Horse Bonding level to be reset after completing certain missions in Red Dead Online or display incorrectly on some menus when at maximum level, have been fixed. Multiple issues that prevented Free Roam Missions from launching correctly in some Red Dead Online sessions or failed to launch correctly for every member of a Posse, have been fixed. An issue that caused the ‘Stubble’ facial hair option and some other Barber Shop items to disappear from your player character after purchasing and left them unable to be reapplied, has been corrected. Fixed an issue that caused some animal and human corpses to disappear before the player had the chance to loot/skin/collect them while in a Red Dead Online session. A new HDR Calibration menu has been added. Players can now switch between the existing ‘Cinematic HDR’ and new ‘Game HDR’ styles, plus a new option has been added to allow manual adjustment of Peak Brightness values to match your display. Many of today’s fixes were identified thanks to player feedback and we appreciate you helping us squash issues. You can check out the complete list of notes at the Rockstar Support page.

  36. Great ! For the whole time i was playing i got only ONE assasination mission against me and it was super fun. I went into a cabin in the woods and wait for them (was 2 of em). First one of them decided to go in - got shot in the face with a double barrel then they both went in with shotguns so i quickly got out thru the back door and threw a dynamite in - was sweet. The time was over then and i won (They were not good. I would have throw dynamite in then go inside from both doors same time - ah well good for me) About the offensive/deffensive system that R* will implement i dont really get how will that work. Whole thing is pointless IMO. The whole Griefer problem is exaggerated. Guess we shall see soon. Im guessing from 6 to 8 weeks max. Most def in June not May. P.S. looking forward to see your YT uploads. Take care !

  37. The Spring update will introduce Offensive mode and Defensive mode. There is no difference between current mode and offence mode. Defensive mode will change the ease in which you can be killed. You will not be able to be lasso'd. Critical hits will be removed. Auto lock on will be removed but you can still be killed. You can't lasso or attack other players or you become Offensive player. Not sure if you become offensive player for defending yourself tho. Defensive mode is not passive like GTA.

  40. You will get more assasination attempts as the System will choose you more often as victime due to your red status (which is good)! I have between 1 and 3 an evening (being super red due to not let get others away if they shot me or due to following the day tasks advises) 🙂 how ever, I have 1 or 3 where I am the victim an evening and ist great fun. I mostly wait to give them the chance to catch up and ensure they come. I then search a nice place and await them. I have one of that attempts on Video. You can see on my YT channel (at About me) if you want or interested. I love doing it that way. Do yourself the favor and accept being chased by answering the attack appropirated instead of speeding to St. Denis or TW as you could win the thing therefore easy but be bored again. ALso it needs this for the other Players, as otherwisde no one will ever start to follow the Mission if they all realise everyone just rides off. As said great fun so being not honorable at all and being red pays out. I just wonder what happens after the update, as an Lv 110 I choose to wait always for the first shot (not in an assasination Mission of Course) before I chase them but finaly this will mean in the future I stay blue and dont get this missions again until I turn bad and start to kill Players first?

  41. Im glad that you grew some balls finally Took some time but hey ! Good for You that you enjoy the game and understand it better. Keep on up ! Very good post. I agree 100% I could not understand why so many ppl complained about griefers when i never met any or was griefed since i started playing in february. Currently lvl 123 I would love the game to be harder - hrder to achieve money. lvls maybe some punishment upon death. I would like to start a new char as well. Was thinking about deleting my current character but i guess the update hits soon and they will implement it. Actually i wouldn't mind a wipe when the beta ends. Now at high lvl i just march in everywhere i want and even noticed that somehow ppl i encounter dont attack me anymore. Actually i went full dishonorable yesterday (was always honorable) to be the red dot. Maybe ill get more action that way

  42. So does this mean you overcame the Griefer understanding as well? Honestly, there is no Griefing in RDR2 at all! Wherever a Possi would become annoying you tkae the opertunity to practise or you parley them off, job done. Given there is no real loss (the loss of the 3 Corps are adding to your joy of the game in the Long term, I explain in a second why), it even doesent hurt realy. Now also I fail completly to follow the anger it produces at some Players if they get shot while hunting or fishing. For my understanding thats absolutly good that this things can and will happen. If you couldnt be harmed while doing so, why doing it at all then? If there is no Risk hunting annimals and transporting them succesfully to the butcher then where is the sense in asking you to do so. You instead could leave the hole matter of and teleport any shot animal automaticly seperated in meet and pelts to the Players account. How boring would that be. RDR is no Hunting or farming sim. Ist a PVP game and the risk and loss is exaclty what every player needs to feel tension and also to feel good if successfull. Like every game, the way is the objective not to master the game. We only play to experience the way, to get better and master the challenge. Believe me, the moment will come where you welcome any atack as a refreshing influence during the stamdardized boring hunting an crafting exercises. So let me please you all, stopp complayn about Griefers and think About the importance of PVP is to give you all a good and tensioned game. At the high Level it can get quiet boring and you archieve the Levels fast here. Remember the nice an difficult game you faced in the first 30 Levels. Sometimes I think it maybe would be better to reset my account to Level 0 to experience a bigger challenge again. Maybe somewhen we will be allowed 2 characters?

  43. I love my Turkoman. I had the MFT but enjoy the Turk more. it seemed just as fast, stamina does not matter if you know how to spam the L3 button, and the Turk is less skiddish. My favorite purchase has been my 2nd Schofield, duel weld with splits on a hideout is the best. That and dynamite arrows for people that are messing with my hunting grind.

  45. Well, I expect something tomorrow whether that's in the form of another promo, status and/or the actual Spring update as it seems they've been pretty consistent with their every-Tuesday schedule the past couple months. ....and yeah, I expect they will have some news about the game, it's progress, etc. for their investors in the report. Either way, Spring is nearly over so I do expect that we will see the "Big Update" quite soon.

  47. And I can’t wrap my head around why people Think it’s fun to hide on a rooftop and snipe someone leaving a store, or shoot someone in the back while they’re in the middle of fishing or skinning an animal. Especially when there is no reward for doing this and all it accomplishes is pissing someone else off for no good reason. But that’s just me.
