  2. Wow..... When I opened this thread about your long journey to lvl 100, I was expecting a much longer post in classic Lumper style. 😁 On a serious note, I would also urge new players to download the RDR2 app for their phone, tablet or other iOS / Android device. .....assuming your device is compatible. The app allows you to view the big map on your device which makes it easier to plot paths, check you waypoints, etc. You can also view the map on the device when you're fishing. .....you can't see your minimap on the screen during this activity so you're essentially blind without it. It helps when evading people, spotting "red blips" and is generally useful in that you don't have to open the main map on your screen as often which can sometimes leave you exposed. All of the icons, blips, etc. you would see on your in-game map on your main screen you will see in the app.

  3. @DNMNetTech I was in the middle of nowhere, fishing in a stream. The proximity map isn't there when fishing. I was head shot by a Lvl 100 who rode away like a bat out of hell while I was respawning. I'm getting griefed very frequently and by triple-digit players.....and also by lower-level players in the twenties and thirties who have cheat mods.... I'm convinced that there is somewhere on the internet teaching players how to employ cheats in the online game The worst case scenario I ran into was a player who shot and killed me and when I came back to taste a little sweet revenge, he or she invoked the defensive posture and continued to kill me again and again until I left the server. I screamed WTF so loudly that the shingles on my roof shuddered.

  4. On March 7th I started, on the 12th I was level 7, today after 2.5 months or about 10 weeks I did it!! Actually I averaged 10 levels a week for 10 weeks. If you are new and just getting started here are my tips to you. Get a fishing pole as early as you can, for cash only, for xp you need to either hunt, run story missions over again, do stranger missions, clear hideouts, do random encounters, etc.. Now things are much better for new players compared to 10 weeks ago. The day I started, I had no clue what to expect, I spawned in near Valentine, set up a camp, went to it, 3 players saw me and followed me to my camp and started messing with me, they tried to lead my horse away, etc.. later I found out they just did that to see what I would do because they were bored, and this was fun to them, to intimidate new players, that should have told me how it was going to be. For about 8 weeks it was brutal, you literally had to hide and hunt/fish to get any level grinding done, or do things like spawn in New Austin then fast travel to Rhodes to do things and not have a whole bunch of red dots just killing anything that moved in each town center making going to the butcher a real problem, I remember in Strawbery some guy hiding on the cliff over looking the butcher and just taking pot shots at anyone who came in to his view, just because. For a time there were players who woudl purposely crash into you then shoot you for it, etc.. yeah, it was something. So it was hard, but if you want to do well in this game you have to level up to open up better weapons, ammo, horses, camp upgrades, etc.. and you cant do that if you are fighting griefers all day. My strategy was to ignore them, if they killed me parlay and get back to what I was doing, and there were many bad days. But if you are just starting you have it so much easier than we did 2 months ago, so just level up, the faster you do it the faster you can really enjoy the game. Im now at a point where I have everything I want and need, as I make gold I will buy one more thing then clean up my weapons, otherwise I am done and it is time to play. My advice is work toward a goal each time you come in so you have a plan and then stick to the plan. The new system makes it very easy to avoid people, you will still find a random back shooting excuse making coward out there, (im doing daily challenges relax dude) lol yeah ok, but otherwise if you go into passive mode and just grind your levels, you will have no problem at all. I bought every weapon except the semi auto pistols and the carcano, but I have everything else, and all ammo types, all pamphlets except for bait and a few horse stimulants, I put in 19 days and 14 hours I think it said when I looked earlier, I think around 500 hours of game play in 2.5 months, to complete the 100 levels. Good luck, enjoy the grind, once it is over you will be thankful you did it and you will have earned everything you have in game and be able to focus on pvp and other pve modes.

  10. Same here, I bought it so my son and i could play together like we did with TD1. TD2 is fun, but not as fun as the first one. Way more stuff involved in 2, i think it takes away from the fun aspect. I just hit level 30 and still have 2 or 3 zones to finish, not to mention the bases and whatnot. But there's no pull for me to do that like there was in TD1. I'm really enjoying AC: Odyssey. Most of my game time the last few weeks has been spent in Ancient Greece. It has a naval aspect similar to Black Flag which i didn't like right at first but have come to really enjoy. i haven't gotten much past chapter 2 in the story, i've been having too much fun exploring and sinking ships and hunting the mercenary bounty hunters.

  13. Very well done sir ! Way to hang in there. I started when beta released. Hit 176 last night. What a show it has been. Sitting on 12k cash and 137 bars. Have everything as you mentioned and now I can relax and just enjoy this beautiful game ! It's only gonna get better from here. Tip of the hat to new folk just starting. You will be spared the hell a lot of us went through.

  14. This could be after he holds and fires one bullet, releases and holds again for "nothing" is actually ejecting/chambering another round. I find I need to double tap most weapons to fire-chamber, fire-chamber fire-chamber... etc.

  15. Yeah, I'm waiting for the Playstation 5. Maybe Red Dead Online will be much more smooth and 10x better on the new platform than the PS4. Kind of like how GTA 5 was okay on the PS3, but was SOOOOO much improved on the PS4 platform. As for as games go, my hype drive has settled down a bit. I'm definitely open to try new games, but for the most part after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, I haven't been really hyped about anything in particular. Maybe I'll give that new Star Wars game a go, who knows? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

  16. No worries. You may also want to check out the Posse Recruitment sub forum if you;re looking for folks to join up with in RDO. https://www.rdr2.org/forums/forum/16-posse-recruitment/

  17. Yeah, Creed took a hiatus from RDO to play the Division 2 but he helped me too. He was really hyped for it. I bought it as well but I'm just not as big of a fan of the series. I mainly got it for my friend who loves the game and likes to co-op. We still have a blast. Now, when Insurgency Sandstorm makes its way onto consoles later this year, I'll probably be hooked on that for a while. I was hoping for a good sequel to GRW but the futuristic robots, drones, etc. in GRB turned me off when they announced it, even with the Punisher ( Jon Bernthal). .....but I'll likely get it, again, for the co-op aspect with friends. As for the forum, I don't see myself really going anywhere. .....as long as Lonestar will have me. I'll also still be playing RDO into the distant future just like I do GTAO. I agree. This is one of the best forums I've been a part of and I was happy to help as a mod when LS asked me. The members, the mods, Lonestar......everyone helps make that possible. Great group of folks here.

  19. ive been doing every gang hideout solo and have not had a treasure map in ages i thought it might be a glitch or something but looks like its across the board.

  20. You've been pretty unlucky I'd say although my numbers still aren't great. I've done 197 hideouts and have picked up about 20 treasure maps I think (if I'm correctly discounting the number received from ranking up). Probably about a third of the hideouts I've done have been co-op so maps may have been picked up by another player. I've had times where I've picked up several within a week but I'm currently on a streak of not having found one for ages. Looting every body you can seems to be the only real tip but then I've had hideouts where I've cocked up and died and had most of the bodies despawn and still picked up a map off the last body I looted. So its all luck I think but to give yourself the absolute best chance (which still seems to be tiny), clear the hideouts solo and take the time to loot all the bodies available. Conventional wisdom was to not kill the leader until you loot all the bodies so they don't despawn but I'm not sure that's an issue since the update last week.

  21. I think he needs to be the posse leader for him to see his current missions. Once he joins your posse, he only sees what you have available. Have him create a Temporary Posse and invite you.

  22. Yet the person in charge thinks everyone needs to play in one public lobby type.. Sort of like opening a bar and having 3 bands playing 3 different types of music at the same time on the same stage. And then the owner of the bar keeps telling the sound guy to balance it out so everyone can hear what ever bad the want clearly. The Sound guy tries his best.. But it won't matter. Because the only thing that will work are WALLS and separate stages.

  24. Well, the free roam aspect is ONE part of the game, for most of us that do like a passive mode in free roam it is because we/ I use free roam to level up, to pick herbs, craft recipes, make some cash, load up for pvp modes, etc.. and while doing that I dont want to be bothered by trigger happy people who think the whole game should just be shoot everything that moves, EVERY other game is like that, this game is special and can be a lot more than that. Not everyone feels the need to shoot the guy at the butcher just for the fun of it, I hate those players, they have no purpose other than their own and it doesnt add anything to the game, it actually takes away from it. Some of us want the game to be as realistic as possible, and honestly there was no period in time especially in the late 1890's where a regular rancher going into town to sell his products would be attacked and killed for no purpose every single time. Some people do like constant conflict, so cool, knock yourselves out, but when a person on the mic says hey Im just going to the butcher, I am not part of your fight, just let me by, and you dont, then I think your just being a jerk honesty and selfish thinking, hey the game is what I want and only what I want, anything else is stupid, this is the attitude I have seen from people doing these things to me. Ill never understand people who think it is ok for you to make others do what you want, and then complain when they want to play their own way without you being involved. I also think these players, often alone, are bored, and lonely so they force themselves on you by attacking you so you will hopefully fight back and then they send you an invite, they crack me up, why would I ever accept your invite? your a douche, you just cost me time and money and now I have to start over because of you and you think I am goign to join your session and help you and talk to you and fill the void you are feeling? lol gtfo. In COD WW2 we have a headquarters for a lobby where you can go get ready for pvp, this is similar except we have the entire map to use and the addition of stranger missions, story missions etc.. But to answer part of your questions, in free roam, if I am hunting because I want to level up so I can buy a pamphlet and then grind for cash to buy the item, I dont want to be bothered with shooting, attacks, griefing, etc.. I just want to focus on my grind. Because it is slow going to make money and gold and XP the last thing I want is for some bored player to take it out on me and divert my attention from what I want to do and make me engage them and do what they want to do. You asked what fun is there watching a guy fish? why are you watching a guy fish? lol there are many ways to have fun in this game and shot your guns without bothering hunters, fisherman and explorers there are plenty of other things to do out there, there are pvp sessions, , a story mission, some stranger missions, etc.. in free roam, we need to pick herbs, hunt big game meat, do daily challenges that are about collecting stuff I mean there are more things to do in free roam than in pvp. To me I need my time to be maximized, so I dont have time for player killing, if you want to kill players, the game gave you lots and lots of ways to do that, just dont do it to players who dont want to engage with you. Part of the problem that I have seen is too many players are playing alone, bored, lonely, they see me and just decide ok, I am going to attack this person, just because, and this is why we need a passive system, to stop others from ruining our time online and our game. If I wanted to play with you, I woudl have sent you an invite or accepted yours, when I saw you coming and used my mic to make it clear, I am just hunting, dont mind me, ...then you shoot at me while my back is turned and I am skinning a deer, I just want to quit, but now, not so much. If it were mutual then fine, but often it is not, and these players force themselves on you and make you deal with them, this is selfish and childish behavior that only a major change to the game was able to slow and or stop. If people would have controlled themselves and left peopel alone that werent doing anything to them, maybe we wouldnt have had to have this change. I mean why sneak up on a guy fishing to tackle him, tie him up then shoot him? You dont get anything for doing it, all you are doing is messing with people, and that is griefing, it isnt part of the game, it isnt mutual, the fisherman, didnt even see you coming, and was busy doing what HE wanted, to do. Im part of a group, we have nearly 70 members now, and this attitude is not unique, it is wide spread, many players like all aspects of the game, but still dislike being attacked for no reason, so I think this was sadly necessary and I for one and glad it is in the game,. To players who dont understand it, they keep saying gta gta gta, hey dude, this isnt gta, its rdr2O and we have a unique opportunity here, a cool way to get ready for fights instead of just earning money and then buying upgrades in a single window, we get an incredible 3d world to explore and use in our own way for that same purpose, and I think many just dont get it or know what to do with themselves and the easiest thing to do is shoot at people, lol but those days are over, its a new era and I for one really enjoy it.

  26. I find herbivore and predator bait(especially the predator bait) to be completely useless. It won't make animals appear out of thin air. You have to know that they are already in the area. When it comes to predators, usually by the time you know they are in the area, they've already spotted you and are charging at you. I find it easy enough to hunt and kill animals as I encounter them. I use a predator charging at me to my advantage. It's a straight on headshot with a Springfield or bolt action rifle.

  29. I caught over 5000 fish and never noticed any XP, so I only fished when I needed cash in a hurry, otherwise I had to hunt, and do missions for xp. I didnt think we got any Xp at all for fishing, at least I never noticed any.
