Archbell
In various previews released recently, previewers talked about their experiences with the game after playing for 5 hours and what questions they had for Rockstar. After asking about the return of New Austin they were told by Rockstar that Red Dead Redemption's entire map will be returning in Red Dead Redemption II. What do you guys think of the return of Mexico in Red Dead Redemption II? I'm equally excited to see both Red Dead Redemption II's map and Red Dead Redemption's map 12 years younger. NewsBot
Many of us were hoping for this and recently some signs pointed towards it being reality. However we now know for certain that the entire map from Red Dead Redemption, including all locations visited in the 2010 game, will be included in the map of Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar recently revealed a number of locations that will appear in the upcoming game that also lined up with a long-leaked map. The map also featured the whole Red Dead Redemption area, with the new parts of the map stretching northward and eastward, and now we've received confirmation that this aspect of the leaked map is true as well. A Dutch gaming publication that took part in Rockstar's preview event and played two hours of Red Dead Redemption 2 at the development studio held a Q&A on their website. One of the questions posted by a fan asked whether Armadillo and New Austin were in the game. The Answer? Yes, alongside every other place John Marston visited in 1911. Upon inquiring with Rockstar I was told that the full map of Red Dead Redemption is also in this game, but that of course many more areas have been added. The post goes on to explain that the locations also got a workover. Blackwater, for example, is significantly larger and more detailed than it was in Red Dead Redemption. While this is inconsistent in terms of canon - why would a city be larger in 1899 than it is in 1911 when the express themes of the franchise indicate development and increasing modernity - it makes sense from a design perspective. The now-confirmed leaked map.Technology has developed immensely since 2010 and the capabilities of the current-gen consoles allowed Rockstar to create a world with significantly fewer compromises than almost a decade ago. Many restrictions that were present during the development of Red Dead Redemption are no longer there, giving them the freedom to create something better. So why shouldn't they? Preview impressions from yet another wave are trickling in and we'll likely learn a few new details form them too as they get posted in the next two or so days. I imagine transports or stagecoaches will be available... Or it will be a lot of riding to get from one end to the other. Mind you, myself, I wouldn't mind riding from one end to the other just to look at all the new stuff and how the new map is improved.

Yeah there's a fast travel thing in the camp via other characters I think. Can't remember but it's in one of LKHD's vids.

LinXX
I couldn't seem to find a true answer to this online. Someone mentioned it on another forum, but no one actually answered him. I thought I would ask here. Is there like an actual size comparison we can make to GTA V's now that we have the official map? Like is it the same size? Bigger? Smaller? It is hard to tell just looking at the map for me.
Grey Gato
Apparently, he full RDR map will be in RDR2. So the new map should be bigger. There are more details and some nice R* supplied images over in this forum: https://www.rdr2.org/forums/topic/1015-red-dead-redemptions-full-map-returns-in-red-dead-redemption-ii/
