Mpegforever
Today I tested Online for an hour. I think it was enough. Then I powered off my PS4. The game is beautiful, we all know. Now I think back to RDR in 2010. What do we have here ? Nicer graphics, great. New story,ok, it's finished. DLCs ? ok, not yet. Online ? Beta, fine, and to be honest RDR original with undead nightmare is much better than this. So at the end....aren't we just repeating the whole RDR "package" ? Somebody passes hours and hours killing others...well...tons of games to do that, and a lot faster and better. I don't know...I'm rethinking all of it. Am not sure about anything anymore. I don't know, I just don't know. Maybe the psycological hype we had in the last two/three years blew a big bubble...and now it kind of exploded....for me at least...don't know. Just sharing what I was thinking. Not being negative. Hope not to disturb anybody. Any comments will be glad to read. Maybe I need some input...oh well. Have a good evening, ciao from Italy.
Minimoni
I fully agree with you. I have completed story mode twice and I am now completing all challenges and finding all little secrete on the map the the protagonist can scribble down in to his journal. I am very close to 100% and I can not find any secret online anymore that I have not already done or found. Still, I love the story mode so freaking much that I will play it a third time before even trying online again. Online is really not for me but I hole all that do like it, to have as much fun as possible while I stick to the story mode and the endless post epilogue as it give me much more enjoyment. A sincere greeting from Sweden and Japan as me and my wife plays together, I am a Swede and she is Japanese and I have had the influence on here so she now enjoys the old west stories 🙂
buttlint
Ciao, paisano. An American here. Like you, I also played the original game and will not be playing online. The visual beauty and the attention to detail are what drew me to the first game and keeps me playing this version. I could have finished weeks ago and have been avoiding concluding the second epilogue for weeks. I am retired and I live in the northern US where climate slows down my outdoor activity. This time of year has always been a period when I can afford the time to indulge in what most people consider a waste of time. Is gaming a waste of time? Is recreation a waste of time? I consider it a hobby. Something that I do that helps me relax. Something that takes my mind off of the bullsh*t that we all have to deal with in our daily lives. Escapism. Exercising our imaginations to combat the mundane. I have killed thousands of people, monsters, robots from outer space and all creatures great and small in video games. I have read books that described the hideous acts against humanity. I live in Detroit, for gods sake, the murder capitol of the world! Still I think that violence is nonsense. Red Dead 2 still has some juice left in it for me, even if its only picking flowers. Even if it only keeps me posting to a gentleman that lives in Italy to hang in there. Perhaps some DLC will come along for single player to renew interest. I sure hope so, because I dont see any games coming up that rouse my interest. That would make for a long, cold winter here in Michigan.😪
DLKnives
I am a single-player non PvP kind of guy but I LIKE online. I've been griefed hard 3 times but I've played a lot and I find it addicting. Give it a try. In an hour you can't really get the feel for it.

Maybe as we gain age and even a little wisdom, these moments of impasse come to us more often. Ultimately RDR2 is just a game, the On-Line is imo 5% as well done as the story...... But when you look at the comments from so many on YouTube and so forth, one would imagine it was a cure for cancer, a formula which R* had burnt. Personally I look at the On-Line and wonder what I am supposed to gain from it? Presently the Story is a far better experience than the O/L ..... IMO Myself I play Xbox a great deal because of my own circumstances re health .... However I keep a perspective, it is a game, not a way to gain world peace ...... If someone gains a 100% completion then truly, well done indeed ...... But starvation will not be cured, conflicts will not cease. R* for whatever the reasons, seem to have created a bad situation..... snatching defeat from the jaws of victory 1
Mpegforever
Thanks for the replies guys. If I had some doubts before, I think I have a little more now...lol... well.... unfortunately I'm not the kind of person that does stories twice. Know there are people that go on for months or years re-playing same stories many times. I don't understand but respect very much their way to enjoy. Great, just not for me. So, story is beautiful, a few things I'll have to checkout YT to find things around...not too shabby, but at the end I think it will be over. Or maybe I just need a little rest. Play something else and then come back to it. Maybe I just have to alternate games. Sorry if I stressed you, but thanks for the comments. That's what the community is hear for. RDR2.org go ! dredd1961
I have played the original RDR story and online. I have played through RDR2 single player twice now with close to 95% completion 2nd time through. It's great. A fantastic experience. However for RD Online. The first fews hours were fun. I am rank 44 that is a ton of hours of grinding. I am disappointed with the content. The online game is empty and the missions repetitive. RD Online has embraced GTA online's greed. With the emphasis on microtransactions. Rockstar have promised all these features next year for RD Online, but I think we are been conned.

Unfortunately we here in Scandinavia have imported some of the “great” cultures all over the world that seems to have enjoyed violence and war for hundreds of years. That violence did not end by those cultures coming here so now we have quite a problem with gang violence and murders here too. Just as you I am a a non violent guy irl but I love to play in fictional worlds and have the freedom of pretend. It is not a waste of time as in my eyes hobbies and interests are rather the meaning of life. Work and the sh*t one has to live through outside of make believe is just a key to be able to spend time on escapism. Do not get me wrong, I have a good life with a wonderful family but tragedies and devastating things happens sooner or later to each and everyone of us and that is why all of us needs the escapism a good book, movie or game gives us. Mpegforever
Maybe some of you are going a bit off topic. I was reconsidering if I should continue to play or pause the experience. I think I will pause, online for sure. Btw, what is coming for online next year ? Deathmatch I don't care at all. I'm more for coop. Thanks, ciao

What I suspect is they just wanted to observe player behaviour gauge what they could get away with and our tolerance for microtransactions. Now we have the store available selling this fools gold. Yeah keep that pause button on mate for a long time.
Dubya75
Not sure I understand exactly what you are trying to say, but RDR Online is garbage. RDR2 story mode is amazing. Yes, I remember RDR1 to have a better story and more content. BUT....memory is very deceptive. You will not convince me after fully completing RDR2 and then playing RDR1 again, that RDR1 is a better game. It is not. RDR2 is definitely the better game between the two.
Kormath
7 hours ago, Dubya75 said: RDR Online is garbage Totally accurate. Maybe it will get better with split servers and less griefing. I spent an hour, maybe a little more, this weekend giving online another shot. Totally wasted an hour + of game time i could have been enjoying story mode. I thought the story line was just as good as RDR, maybe better but that's a tough call. I love them both. More content in RDR2, more stranger missions and interactions with people. Same challenges (meaning sharpshooter, bandit, etc. not same challenges in those challenges). I think some here had the wrong impression when the game came out. It's a prequel to RDR, so yeah it has the same game play and whatnot, you can't go totally different for a prequel.
siasalami
I still play the story mode even though I am done with it. I'm trying to get my 100% completion in order to get my Platinum trophy. The only thing that sucks is that online is part of the requirements to get the Platinum trophy, and I really don't like Online Beta as of right now. I'm just really not into it, the gameplay, others just killing me randomly for their try hard stats, etc... I don't expect it to be on the level of GTA 5 online or anything, but hopefully maybe they can head that way soon lol

I am sorry to laughing or even smiling at such a serious thing, but I could not help myself. I guess it is true that humans way of handling tragedy is to do it with comedy. Anyway, I hope it will get better and that those affiliated with the irl violence will get caught and sentenced to life sentences.

That's with picking different stats, weapons, and armor. Or I'll try a self-imposed challenge. Like, see how far I can progress on a Friday night. Or see how quickly I can beat the game. I'm nearly done with my playthrough. I've been mostly playing a good person, doing honorable deeds. I maxed out my honor on the good side and got a trophy for that. I If I do a second playthrough, then I'd probably try being a bad outlaw. Doing dishonorable things. It might be an interesting challenge to do a no manual saves play-through. I'd use autosaves though.

My own personal quest is to circumnavigate the entire map from outside its borders. That may sound like a easy task but it has many pitfalls that can bite you on the ass and send you back to square one. I start at the exit glitch (in a previous thread) north of Fairvale Shanty and I have made it to a place across the San Luis River, due south of Fort Mercer. My adopted horse, Buddy, still waits for me on the shore of the San Luis, as a fall into the river sent me back into the main map. But fear not Buddy! I stopped at the market and filled up my satchel with fresh oat cakes and liquor and I will return to complete our journey. Once you make it to the uncharted map, there are other potential quests, but you are going to have to make up your own rules because the No. 1 rule of glitch club is that there are no stinking rules! buttlint
1 hour ago, Mpegforever said: you a beta tester ? I think that beta testicle might be a more apt description. Actually, its a tougher challenge than it sounds. One screw up and its back to the main map......you lose! There is no saving, no sleeping, no crafting or cooking. Any of those things will send you back and you have to start again. You have to find a horse and break it. If he throws you and kicks you in the head.....please start over. Horses exist on the other side but they scarcer than on the main land. There are refugee animals, from the map, but you cant eat them because you cant cook them. No or very slow travel at night. If you go over a cliff because you dont see it.....to bad. Get to close the water and slide in....your cooked. There are no roads or road maps. The topographical map is garbage. Lots of back tracking to find a path around obstructions. No bridges. Getting around the northwest corner of the map alone takes 2-3 gamedays. Snow blizzards are blinding and depth perception is difficult for an old guy. I find that you need to pack everything you will need before you leave. There are no stores and nobody to rob. You have no saddle so most of your guns get left behind. (not that you need a full arsenal) There is no "full galloping" for any long stretches. No fast travel or cinematic view. I have made it as far as Roca de Medera (on the old map) then I broke the"stay away from water and dont travel at night" rule. I slipped on a small incline and that was that. No platinum trophy for me! Just go back to the ranch and raise some more money for supplies....just like real life.

A snake byte and bye bye. It's supposed to be like that. Who wants an arcade ? Nobody. But you smoke something I think. Though your comments are indeed correct. I appreciate the reality of the game, the cold water. It should even be more realistic and too easy sometimes. Example ? If you crash into a tree, another horse or objects, many times they are "automatically" dodged or jumped...we should crash always if not approached properly. Tenti
I've been gaming since I bought a ZX81 then Spectrum Atari etc etc, but I have always avoided online/co-op. I tried COD & GTO, but just didn't like it. However, I've been doing this one online and really enjoying it. I've met a couple of people n here, so can often posse up, and its good fun. Maybe because its not so intense and a bit more open, but you can have a good craic while playing. You don't have to get involved in the madness if you don't want to. Maybe its because I don't have other games to compare with, but I really like both story and online. I thought griefing was a problem when I first started, but now I quite like it. I'm better than I thought so I can hold my own, plus its pretty easy to avoid. Also, we're all outlaws on here, and whooping it up WIld West Style is kinda fun. Anyway, each to their own, although I'm not sure this has the scope for future development online as GTA, so I'm interested to see where R* go with it over time. It uses this game as the most beautiful platform game ever. When my young nephews visit for Christmas, it will also give them access to the game that is G-rated. There is no foul language or gratuitous violence on this side of the map. Maybe another controller for PVP action. (Nah....they would start shooting each other the minute they landed on the map.) Auntie buttlint would also hang my ornaments from the christmas tree if I did that. The only problem I have with RDO is that I would have to pay Sony $25 to join their network. Perhaps later, when the bugs are worked out in beta. My Polish / Italian DNA does not allow me to spend money on something that I wont use. I am pretty sure that DLC and add-ons are on the way. Until then, my next goal is to reach Flatiron Lake. The only reward will be to take pictures of Thieves Landing, from the other side, to prove to myself that it is possible. Seem to me, that goal is in the spirit of the old west.
Mpegforever
So I've revisited all site, hideouts, map, seen all of it again....and again. I think I'm done.
