Rockstar is escalating my ticket for further review regarding the 0x20010006 error. I provided packet traces that show no issue until the drop. No latency, CRC's errors, No retrans. Not my network. ISP has no issues with connection either.

Excellent.  The more info they have the better.  Thanks for submitting all that as it helps others having the same problem(s).

Is that something us non-IT rubes can do, or does it require specialized software?

Like you, I, too, am suffering from these issues.

Update:

Today I spoke to R* again by phone and was  told that they indeed have no dedicated servers. They use peer to peer.

The game picks the player with the best connection and uses them as a "master", and the rest of the players in that lobby "slave" off that connection. I was told that when the R* rep was the master connection, and they logged off the game, their friends called and said when you quit the entire lobby was disconnected.

I was also told they were working hard to correct this issue.

I suggested they come here to see the concerns of a large, diverse community of players.

Very supportive conversation, that will and has provided fruit.

I mentioned losing pelts, carcasses when using fast travel, and was told that had been fixed. And it indeed was true for me when I tested it.

Can't say it enough, share feedback with R* as musch as possible. Capture videos and place on You Tube then share with R*.

Last few days I have not been able to play. I did contact them about it, have yet to hear back. How long does it typically take to hear something on this? I have not had a major issue with connecting once but it would seem since the update, I have been having issues.

From what I understand RDO is player hosted. That would help explain a lot of the glitches, the 24 player limit and connection problems.

If it's via their Support site, they say <24 hrs. My experience has been less than an hour in most cases but if they escalate the issue then it can take longer (more than a day in some cases).

I’m going on my 5th or 6th day now unable to stay connected... either it outright fails to connect, or I drop with the “Rockstar Server” error after 5-10 seconds.

I’ll log a ticket next week, but it is ONLY this game. I’ve turned to several others now and they are working perfectly. (PS4).

I really like RDR but I’m not going to change everything about my world to make it work. I’m already DMZ’d on the console for God’s sake. (Which, the more I think about peer to peer connection, I’m thinking I will UN-do).

This peer to peer concept of theirs seems pretty flawed... given the evidence so far...

Peer to peer is also used for GTAO, not sure if those players have these issues though.

It does require some software to perform the tests. Interpreting the results can be tricky unless you understand in depth networking and tcpip packets.

Rockstar has a service through Akamai. Akamai has servers that you connect to in your area called edge servers. There are over 200k globally. These edge servers connect to the main R* servers, where ever they reside, and provide the content to the end users. These edge servers cache the data from the servers and pass back and forth data. The end consoles PS4 or XBox don't talk directly with the R* servers. In theory, this creates faster load times for, update downloads, and mission loading. Akamai does host many servers and services for many companies. How this impacts server disconnects, I am still trying to determine. For me, the disconnect occurred at the Akamai edge server.

None of the above in my scenario would point to a peer to peer connection.

I had the wrong number of akamai servers as 2k. there are over 200k

R* telling you to put your console in the DMZ to solve any problem is wrong. By placing you console or any PC in the DMZ you open it up to the world. Any wanna be hacker can then access your device and have all kinds of fun. PS4 is no more secure than an XBox. XBox is running a cut down and modified version of windows. Windows is not secure without a firewall. DMZ removes firewall from protecting. Always use NAT. No other game I have ever played required my computer to be in the DMZ so it doesn't use NAT. What if you have more than 1 console playing RDR2? You can't forward the ports to both. You have to use NAT.

you cannot change server shard, the loading screen goes on infinte, even first logg in has a 50/50 chanse of getting stuck on 90%. half of the dailys for atleast bountyhunter are not beeing registered, and today my horse would not move after accepting a bounty.

add in several visual glitches that apparently will not be fixed....time for a break.
