RDR2 Marketing Cut-off Date

It is now January 4th, 2018, and still silence from Rockstar. When will it signal another delay? I know of the somewhat credible leak of June 8th but if that is the case, they would still need to start marketing soon. So, when do you think we will have to hear something from Rockstar if they are to keep their promise of Spring 2018?

I am not sure if they will keep the promise or not at this point but the silence is not surprising. We just went into a new year, people are focused on goals and packing away Christmas junk, plus after Christmas and New Year's sales. If we get any news on the game, it likely won't be till after the Super Bowl my guess.

You could be right. People are focused elsewhere but this is gaming news and hardly has anything to do with new year sales or football.

What would we normally consider a cut off date though? Like if it is going to be released in May then I think a 3 month period is enough so February would be the month to announce this, no?

I would say they only need a solid 2 months of heavy advertisements and plugs. They already have a large fan base watching and waiting.

I won't pretend I know how marketing goes for gaming but from what I haven noticed, each dev company is a bit different. Some will let you know months in advance when a game is coming out and others only leave a few weeks or just over one month. I really don't know what they plan on doing for this but  like D3x said, they have people watching and waiting already so it isn't like they need to kill themselves with advertising a new game. This plays off the first one.

According to what I have seen people say on GTA Forums and on reddit, most fans agree that Take Two's earnings conference call on February 7th is the cut-off. I agree with that, we should have something before that date. It could be a delay, a release date for Spring, a new trailer, anything. This drought will not last longer than that.

I agree with you on that, it would not spell well for their investors if the years biggest game still did not have a release date by then. What I think will happen is that they reveal a new trailer with a release date for the Super Bowl. This would allow the, to forgo the usual 5 month marketing campaign in favor of a 2 or 3 month one. It would be well worth the money since the super bowl will have over one hundred million people tuned in to watch.

Rockstar games have always been like this.  They let us know it's coming, then they let us create the media and the advertising for them.  I don't remember the last Rockstar game that was released when it was supposed to be.  Yet they have never created a game that I didn't like either.   I wish they would hurry it up though, we're not getting any younger.
