Quickest way I've found to rank up

Go to St.Dennis and kill someone to get the cops on you. Once the cops start coming pull out your knife and start executing them. For every knife kill you get 25pts., 5 for kill, 10 for melee and 10 for execution. You should get at least 5-10 before you're killed more as you get better and then start over, it adds up quit. Not only do you get the 25 pts. per kill but your knocking out your melee and execution belt buckle objectives. Of course you incur lower honor and a bounty but it's worth it for the leveling up and its pretty easy to get your honor back if you're wanting to be honorable. If you don't want to incur a bounty you can go to Thieves Landing. You've got to be quick cause once you start everyone in town starts shooting you. You should get 3-5 before you're killed.

....yeah. I prefer to just play the game and let the level / money come in naturally.  Don't get me wrong, I like to mix it up and even go on shooting sprees like you describe, but I find when I'm just doing missions with a friend(s) and not worry about it, I find I have more cash/gold than I expected after a session and level up regularly.

I have to agree. I get the same experience from clearing a hideout as I do from killing two dozen cops in town, only I don’t get a bounty or negative honour (which sometimes you may actually want). I just play the game and let the levels/money/gold come naturally:

I've tried the cops killing method in Annesburg or Van Horn once ( You get to the end of the platform and water is on your back, get behind the boxes and just kil 2-3 npc and let other witnesses call the cops - then just start shooting)   I did that for about an hour and was so bored doing this i stopped and never did this again. For me the best way to earn exp now is free roam and stranger missions. A lot of thing happening on the road. And i like the world very much, the views, animal sounds etc.

Absolutely fastest way to level is make a possie with just one other friend. Then 2 man solo "destroyed by grief" mission over and over. With just the 2 of you, that's a lot of xp for all the kills. Split up and each follow one of the people and you get all the kills on whichever side you go. Use special ammo and take headshots for max xp. I average 900-1300xp every time I run the mission.

Also I'm not doing the 30 min trick for more xp. Im getting that much xp completing the mission as fast as possible. If you could solo the mission I bet I could average 2k xp per run, sadly you can't solo missions.

to all those that said "I just like to play the game" cheers to you, this thread wasn't for you. I was just throwing this out there for those that want to level up quick and they are out there hence all the youtube videos on the subject. you're not going to get more than 25xp per kill doing anything else and executing them is such a stress relief and the animations are pretty cool. standing in a town shooting people over and over I would find boring myself plus you don't get as many xp.

I'd like to race you on that, I'm pretty sure I could get just as many xp executing fools in the amount of time it takes to run that mission, plus you got the cool down and you've got to have someone else to do it with which isn't always easy so I wouldn't say that's the "absolutely fastest way to level up" I'm not even claiming executing people is the "fastest way" I'm just saying its the fastest way I've found. Hit me up if you're on xbox I really would like to see how many kills I can get in the time it takes you to do the mission, just something interesting to note.

We could try, I mainly hunt for xp (most fun for me and im making the money lol) but run that mission when my friend is on cause he just remade his person and is trying to get his levels back fast. That one and kill them each and every one of them you can easily get over 1k xp in one fast run. The cooldown is only 5 minutes, ill craft back the ammo I used and run to the nearest place to pick up mail to restock and by the time I do that its ready to go again.

Also we run that cause it doesn't lower your honor. I've never timed it though so we could test it sometime that would be interesting. Kill them each and everyone of them can be ran through in about 7ish minutes (if you run ahead immediately and force the cutscene and don't wait for the dude to ride there). We usually split up and take out all the people fairly fast and 2 sticks of dynamite kill the boss guy and skip last cutscene. Usually nets 1k-1.3k xp (depends if you hit all your headshots or not).

Hi, I’ve been wondering about something and this seems like a good place to ask.  I’m not trying to criticize you or say one way of playing is better than another, so please don’t take it that way.

My question is this: when you are stabbing cops, are you just getting overall experience points to level up or do you also get individual experience points for strength, stamina, and deadeye?  I ask because I often fish, for example, and I don’t think it levels me up in terms of overall number, but it does increase my strength level. So my overall level is somewhere in the low 20s, but my strength is 9/10.  I also hunt and pick a lot of herbs, and while I don’t run around pointlessly, I will jump off my horse and run a short distance to gather a batch of herbs or skin a kill.  That got me to 10/10 stamina surprisingly fast without even trying.  And shooting a varmint or a bird gives +1 deadeye for each kill and up to 5, 10, or 25 deadeye xp for bigger game (iirc correctly).

So while my overall level is low, I have no need for tonics.  I can seemingly run forever and not get tired.  Once I did one of those timed repossess the wagon missions and just ran there without my horse and got the wagon back on time.  I always upgrade my tent and with 9/10 strength, it seems I can take a lot of damage with little effect, especially with the hunker down ability card or whatever it is.

Again, not to criticize or challenge, but what exactly is not only your overall level, but also your individual trait levels well?  It just doesn’t seem like one would (or should) gain much strength, stamina, or deadeye experience by standing there stabbing cops and dying over and over, but I admit, I’m totally ignorant on this point.  Maybe they all go up together, but I’m not sure.

I did this when I wanted to lower my honor so I could play the remaining story missions that you cant play as a high honor player, it was fun.

But I made a lot more xp hunting, sometimes I dont even stop to skin them, just shoot everything that moves and mix up the weapons use pistols, arrows, etc.. shoot every bird of every size that you encounter, shoot everything, every Buffalo etc.. shoot everything lol and XP adds up fast.

I made 25000 xp today in 5 hours, thats 5000 xp per hour, and I made 11 gold bars in the same time, a combo of hunting, running stranger missions, clearing hideouts, clearing campsite ambushes, running 2 or 3 stranger encounters, and doing 5 daily challenges.

It builds strength, I maxed it out in no time, I was level 26 15 days ago, I'm now level 65

you can execute 10 cops in one minute if you're good with the sticks, that's 250xp per minute multiply that by 40 minutes (to make a long estimate of the total respawn times from when you get killed meaning im giving 20 min. for that) and that's 10,000 xp per hour-YOU CANT BEAT IT, try it- it's a fun monotony-the animations are cool and there are several different ones depending on how you approach.

Don't know why you keep acting like this is some new revelation that only you thought of.  Players have been doing this since online first came out. I myself have gone into St. Denis killed an NPC, climbed up a nearby ladder to the rooftops and picked off the lawmen as they funneled up the ladder to get to me. I did this a few times when I was low level when needed to gain a quick level or two to unlock something I wanted, but I didn't do it often. Didn't want to. For the most part, I worked for my xp and I'm almost level 150 now. There's many players who don't  want to speed level. They just want to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Long long ago before they nerfed and added the bounties people woudl do this in every populated area, you would go to St Dens or Blackwater and see bodies everywhere lol.

Now that they made a few changes it still happens, heck I did it a few weeks ago as I said to lower my honor for free, but not as much as it once was.

Oh and I found a better way to level up make gold and cash, I have been combining hunting and missions giver missions, I did a loop between Sadie and Flaco I did each one 6 times, and in between I had 3 random encounters and 2 hideouts, in all I went up two and a half levels, made 11 gold bars, $700, and found a treasure map, in about 5 hours of game time.

Plus while doing the missions, I got a clock, I would run the clock to 30 seconds everytime by hunting while I waited, I came in with over 30 pelts on my horse 4 times in a row, it was great, fun, the time went by quickly and I keep leveling up, everyday I log in I get 2 to 3 gold bars right off the bat for leveling up, then another 2 to 3.5 for daily challenges, so that leaves to 8 I make doing missions and finding treasure maps.

never said it was, there's a lot of people that still don't know a lot of things and I'm just trying to let the masses know. just because you and a fe friends know doesn't mean everyone else does. I'm just trying to help those that don't know so they don't waste their time on you tube click baiters like "outlaw Gary". my bad for trying to help. to those that don't know and there are many, this is a new revelation. you think im expecting some reward or trophy, you're too funny, cheers to your 150.

Found this out by accident when some other player started a shoot fest in St Denis and I was caught up in it. I've Just started playing on line and am still trying to get pelts off my horse to sell. I mean what's the point in hunting if you can't get anything for the pelts on your horse?

You don't need to take the pelts off your horse.  Just park up right near the butcher and you can sell all of your horse cargo.

Apologies for going off topic.

I can sell the stuff in my satchel but not my horse. I have had pelts that I can't get off for ages.

Also can't craft clothing or sell horses that I catch. Still enjoyable though different from the off-line version.

Did you try parking the horse closer? I usually ride right up to the butcher.

also, when you approach your horse does it have a remove (x-pelt) option? If not, you may not actually have a pelt there, just a weird glitched image of a pelt... perhaps open a rockstar ticket.

The large ones like buffalo and alligator yes, the deer, wolf and others that sit on the horses rump can't shift them (yet), but I'm working on it.
